      I don’t know if you guys are aware but Bobby Kimball is suffering from dementia. 😢 He’s from my hometown in Louisiana and everyone down there would go crazy when ToTo would be played. I was a small child when ToTo hit it big but all the adults would talk about it. Lol. Oh, also, there’s an autobiography being written about Bobby Kimball called Kite on a String, or something like that. His friend is trying to get as much information from him before he gets too bad with the dementia. It’s so sad… it’s a terrible disease! I’ve lost several family members to it and it’s awful… Anyway… Have you guy ever heard of a band called Louisiana LeRoux? y’all need to check out their most popular song New Orleans Ladies… it’s a slower song but a great one. I’d say a one hit wonder kind of song because I don’t remember any other songs by them.

    The outro was the result of them keeping the tape rolling at the end of the song and the band just jamming out. Steve Lukather's guitar solo in that outro is one of my favorites. The guy is insanely good, a really nice guy and funny as hell.

      @@alansmith7626 Yeah, I think about that interview every time I hear one of his/Toto's songs now. Rick Beato is an amazing interviewer. The interviews he's doing with the legends of music is like a history channel of music. Well, "Luke" can sometimes be full of himself but he's still very sympathetic at the same time. Had problems with his wife and partying but he's carried on. One of the best guitar players back in the day with rocking and jazzy licks. Just iconic. The drums/groove, the vocals, Dave's piano, Steve's guitar and so many different elements.

    • @testodude
      @testodude 3 місяці тому +2

      Steve didn't know David would take off with that stride piano at the end of the take. Steve just improvised over it. After the take, Steve and David asked the control room "did you get all that?" Producer said "every note". By the way, this was take TWO. Easy as pie when you have all the talent in the world.

Check the top 40s, and top 100 lists during that time frame, it's nuts.

"Rosanna" peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard magazine Hot 100 pop singles chart, held back from the No. 1 spot by the new wave synth-pop hit "Don't You Want Me" by the Human League and then by the massive "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor from the "Rocky III" movie soundtrack. The drum licks in the song are notoriously difficult. The late great Jeff Porcarro used to play it for other drummers and no one else could mimic it. There are many video out there. Jeff later revealed that it is what he called a "Half-time shuffle". So respectfully the industry now calls it the 'Rosanna Shuffle'. They discovered that left-handed drummers performing the shuffle on traditional right-handed sets had less problems playing it. I guess the only drummer to nail it on the first take was "Ringo Starr". Also a lefty playing it on a tradition right-handed set.

    Great reaction. You might want to check out Toto playing on "Got To Be Real" by Cheryl Lynn. She returned the favor by singing 2nd lead on Toto's "Georgy Peorgy". Two more examples of their ability to play any style of music they wish.

    The majority of the members of Toto were all session musicians.. Either individually or together they have played on at least 5,000 albums and those albums have amassed sales of 500 million + units.

    The next Toto song you should listen to is "Pamela". Vocalist Joseph Williams (son of composer John Williams) really shines and has a bit of the "Rosanna" feel.

    Gotta say, I really enjoy your reaction videos. My dad(in his 70s) and I, when watching your "Year of the Cat" reaction, just knew as the song went on, that you would be blown away. It was so much fun knowing what you didn't, but then seeing your joy at an amazing song. Keep 'em coming.

    They have so many Damm good songs!
    You want live, see and listen to Home of the Brave from Turkey. Wow!
    There is Straight from the Heart, Till the End, I can't stop loving you, Pamela, Going home which Justin Bieber likes😁
    A groovy song like You Supply the love, called Waiting for your love. Bobby kills it on that one too.

    If you guys haven't done "The Cars" yet. You're in for a treat, as long as you don't do the obvious songs.
    You'd love "A Dream Away", "Lust For Kicks", "Tonight She Comes" (Specifically the insane guitar solo). They have a massive library of sweet tunes, but everyone seems to do the same obvious 3 or 4 songs, ugh.

I remember hearing this often as a kid, but it is even better now. Why don't they make real music like this anymore, is beyond comprehension 🎼 Makes me wish my name was Rosanna.

    I’m a first time viewer. I really appreciate your reaction to this song. Imagine being a freshman in hs and discovering TOTO. I remember hearing HOLD THE LINE, and thoroughly rocking out to it. ROSANNA came out the year I graduated. I’ve pretty much loved everything I’ve ever heard from TOTO. They are one of the best bands of their time. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Lol😊
