Ep. 1 Unboxing Aqua Illumination Nero 3 Wave Pump - Waterbox Cube 20 Update | Blue Reef Tank
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 гру 2020
- I finally got my hands on this Aqua Illumination Nero 3 Submersible Pump. It's small, compact yet powerful which is perfect for my nano reef tank.
I have not set up myAI app yet for this pump which I will do in future videos.
A little update on this tank:
The Waterbox Cube 20 has been cycling for almost 20 days now. The nitrite in this tank is still pretty high so we'll have to wait a bit longer before we can add any fish in.
What fish would you like to see in this tank? Let me know in the comment section below :)

I run two of these on the back wall of my 4 ft tank and they do a great job providing nice wide flow from back to front countering the side to side flow of my Gyre pump. Love them.
🙌🙌🙌
I love it that you have the same waterbox 20 as me.. I just ordered my pump today because one of my aquamai pump controllers died on me. Love how you did the review ❤
The NERO 3 is a great pump very versatile 👍👍👍
Couldn't agree more 😁
I was about to start looking for a small nano one of these - and boom I see this on my feed (: thanks!
Hi Leila - You're most welcome! 😁 Thanks for watching and hope my videos can help you setting up your tank or give you some inspiration
Nero’s are great pumps and very compact. Good choice. Plus the price is right!
yeah and love the stylish, modern look as well
Nice video, good content! I know everyone hates the sound of their own voice, but this video really would have benefited from your narration. You've done so much solid production, why not tell us what we're seeing. Keep up the good work. 👍
Thanks for the feedback 😁 I will definitely consider this in my future videos
Gracias por el video

i added mine into 50gal lagoon IM, im amaze with the quietness and for that small it gives alot of power, also can mix different flow.
Couldn't agree more! It's one of my best investment I reckon
@@BlueReefTank same here, i have a tunze nano controllable, but this one hands down. will buy another of this and let the tunze retired lol.
@@davelenjan19 Good idea 😄 I actually haven't turned on mine yet because my tank is still cycling. I can't wait to see how the corals will react. Do you have a specific schedule that you use in your tank?
@@BlueReefTank i do have, atm just playing with the powers since its also my 1st nero lol. its been a week now to me. i run it mostly from 60%-75% random and pulse then 30% in constant.
@@davelenjan19 Nice one! What corals do you have in your tank? I'm afraid anything above 60% would be too much for my 20 gallon tank as I am planning to only have softies and LPS in it
During the cycling process, how long is the lamp turned on?
How has the nero 3 been for your 20 Cube? I just got my nero 3 today, and I am surprised how high you turned it up. I was thinking 10% would be the high for such a small tank.
My Nero 3 is still not running yet at the moment because I'm still cycling the tank. I will turn it on once I added the fish and corals and I will have to see how the corals react to the flow. I will keep you updated on this 😁
Hello it s not better to place the Nero on rear face?
I'm considering one to create low lagoon style variable flow (fancy goldfish 20 gal tank), but someone else posted on a forum that the pump actually runs at around 30% speed (600gph) when it is set to 1% speed, and there is no way to make cycle completely on and off. Is this true in your experience? I would mainly want it to simulate a gentle lagoon and then stir up detritus that settled on the bottom for a brief period. Does this pump generate a significant current (that would bother a fancy goldfish) even at 1% speed?
For this nano, i think you can put inside couples midnight nemo, plate coral, leather coral, hermit crab 🐚, algae blenny and some frags
Thanks for the idea Sam!
Nice pump how many gallons per hour at say40%
Hey there - Awesome videos! I was wondering what shelf you are using as its not linked, and I'm looking for something similar!
Thanks Jacques! I am using one of the Ikea Workbench but I found out recently that it's actually not rated for my tank 😅 I am happy to leave the link to you if you're still interested?
@@BlueReefTank ohhh yeah! I recognise the object now that you say it! I looked at that one once and saw that it's only supposed to be carrying a load of around 50kg or smth. - I am struggling to find somethings thats looking nice and supports the weight!
@@TwistedFortunes Yeah! so far the workbench has held up but not sure how long it will last for. Your best bet would be to get someone to custom made the stand I reckon. A bit more expensive but I reckon it will be worth it 😅
Are there any dead spots when you run it at 40%? I really like the footprint and wouldn't want to place 2 hydor koralias
There was a few dead spots near the back of the rock but after a while I can't seem to find anything (fish poop etc.) there anymore? I reckon the snails & crabs were the ones keeping it clean
I recently bought a vessel A360X TB for my WB20. Can I ask what settings/intensity values you have set up on the light please? Have you done any PAR measurements?
Hi Jules, I currently have mine only around 20% intensity (I know it's low but my coral seems to get good coloration). The other spectrum is as per the following:
Purple - 100%
Red - 20%
Green - 0%
I haven't done any PAR measurements. As long as my corals are happy 😁
@@BlueReefTank Thanks for getting back, are you using a full 12 hours ramping up and down to 20% please?
pretty sure you can add 1 fish right away with Dr Tims.... the bacteria need an ammonia source.... you could always have added some prime ammonia blocker for extra precaution too...
Thanks for the suggestion. I think I will add some clean up crew to begin with just to be safe 🙂 I don't want to lose any of my fish
Great video, I am also using with a Waterbox 20. What setting do you use? I always feel mine is a little overpowered :/
Hi Ricky - Yes this pump is so strong! I set mine at 30% during the day and 20% at night. My corals seem to like it now 😄
I received mine today, makes so mutch noice! Is this normal?
@@31busse Mine is dead silent. What speed did you put it on?
@@BlueReefTank 30%-40% very annoying sound
@@31busse I also run the same speed and I can't hear anything. It's best to go back to where you get the Nero from and ask them for a replacement.
The 3 kinda sucks. Mine keeps stopping and going into a red flash mode and it’s brand new. I have to keep taking out the blade and put it back in.
what sand d you use ?
Hey man during your cycle did your water get super cloudy for an extended period of time? Did you start with dry sand as well?
My tank was cloudy for like the first two day only. After that, it went back to normal.
Yeah, I started mine with dry sand and dry rock. 😊
@@BlueReefTank man I have the exact same set up as you man and my tank is cloudy and it’s been a week. Any advice?
I would give it another week and if it's still cloudy, I would give the filter socks a quick rinse. It's probably just the dust from the dry rock and sand that's making it cloudy. How bad is it though?
Do you still think it was a good addition? What was the main purpose for adding it?
Yeah! I think most of the corals are happier with more flows 😁
How has the Nero 3 been running in the tank? I'm thinking to get one for my 10g nano but 2000gph looks way too much for my small tank. At the moment running a jebao sw2 at the lowest output.
I also run my Nero 3 on a really low settings at the moment. If I go past 40%, my corals start to close up
@@BlueReefTank eventually I bought the Nero 3. What's the setting are you using?
@@kempzhong Hi Kemp, I had mine at 30% random during the day and 20% constant at night
I just found my blue mandarin dead against my nero 3 today 😞
I run mine on 15% at night and 40% random flow during the day, ( WB peninsula 25)
Do you think it was the power head the killed the mandarin or possibly just passed and flowed onto it?
The settings i use cant be high enough to kill a good size mandarin, what you think?
That sucks . . . Sorry for your loss mate! I think it just flowed onto the Nero when it died. I don't think a healthy mandarin would ever get sucked into a powerhead unless the powerhead has a really big holes :(
@@BlueReefTank
Yhh i agree, ive got the nero 3 with the guard, what settings do you use for the nero in your cube 20 ?
I recently got the nero 3 and I set it up but not without Bluetooth and location. Were you able to set up yours using wifi only? If so, how?
Thanks!
I set up mine through the myAI app. I still have to turn on my bluetooth though. I will check tonight to see if I can connect just with wifi
@@BlueReefTank yeah I have to do the same when going on the app. I thought it would be wi fi connected like the ai lights are. I don't actually mind having to turn on Bluetooth every time as long as the schedule remains when Bluetooth goes off.
Yeah - Thankfully the schedule remains the same 🙂
Is that an A360X over a cube tank! Haha! Total overkill but a lovely light.
Yes it is 😁 Just future proofing this tank haha
How’s the Nero 3 going? Looking at buying one is it worth the price?
Hey man - If you like the minimalistic look + customisable wave pattern, then yes it's definitely worth the money. For me personally, I love this pump and I think it goes really well in a nano tank 😁
My guess 2 clowns, 6 line wrasse, and royal bassett.
You've got one correct at least 😅
How loud is this pump? Also would this make enough current for building a reef tank in a waterbox 25 peninsula?
So far it's dead silent. I'm only running mine at around 20% at the moment and my corals seem to love it.
@@BlueReefTank the flow rate is adjustable? I didn’t know that
@@benciha389 Yes, you can adjust it through the apps and there's so much more you can do with the app like setting the schedule etc.
hey 🙂🙂🐠🆒 . Im here because I am thinking of buying a small stylish wavemaker. Unfortunately, both Nero 3 and Nero 5 have a lot of negative reviews, a lot of people have problems with this pump, even in the first week or month after buying. Many people write that the pump started to turn off or jams (working in crystal clear water) or that it would not be able to start it at all after turning it off. There are also problems with the complaint . Before I buy something, I always read a lot of opinions in various places. What is your experience with this device if I may ask you about it. How much time have you been using this pump already ?
Hey Julia, it's awesome that you're doing proper research before buying. I've been using my Nero 3 for over a year and my personal experience has been really good so far. I haven't experienced any pump issues, even though I turn it on and off everytime when I feed. It's been really easy to clean the wavemaker and it looks great in the tank. Maybe I'm just lucky 😆
@@BlueReefTank thanks for your answer. I Will buy this pump, who does not risk does not drink champagne🙂🍾
Why you are not using skimmer for cleaning ?
Hi Arda, I don't think it's necessary for a small nano tank 🙂
the tank is the waterbox cube 10 not 20 the cuts in the sump show only 5 cuts for water to flow in the 20 cube has 7 cuts into the glass for water to flow in
How do you set the speed?
You can either press the button on the included controller or you can use the app 🙂 I prefer to use the app, it's much easier and you can customise it
@@BlueReefTank can you provide a setting you have it at? Thanks
My tank, 70*70 cm. can I use it?
yes you can. These little guy pump out a really strong flow
@@BlueReefTank thank you Sir.
Pretty sure not the nemos lol
Nope 😋 Haha
