I was stupid enough to turn down anything overseas. Was young wanted to be close to home. Big, stupid mistake. If you go into the military do what you can to go overseas. Its a great opportunity to learn language, the world, and just become more well rounded.

I am on "old timer" and served as a Security Forces Marine...the precursor to today's Marine Security Guard Forces. I served all over the world on Sea Duty aboard the USS Nimitz doing what today's MSG does ...it was great duty and I am glad the Corps is still on watch world wide, Semper Fi!

When my Uncle was working for our embassy in Rome, Italy he had the pleasure of meeting several Marines stationed at the U.S. Embassy, an ordinary Marine is outstanding to our country, these Marines must be exceptional!

I was on the program from '92 - '94. Helsinki, Finland and Managua, Nicaragua. Nicaragua was a Designated Country when I got there but they dropped it halfway through my time there. Also did a Sec State Visit in Mexico City and Ball support in El Salvador.
I was stationed at U.S. Embassy Manila back when we still had bases in Subic and Clark AFB. There were almost weekly demonstrations in front of the Embassy by protesters about U.S. colonialism. The MSGs always responded professionally, protecting the embassy while respecting the rights of the indigenous community.
I was trained at the USMSG School in Arlinton VA in 1971 Not in Quantico. That was the Administrative HQ. The school moved ther much later but NOT in 1954. One of our base boarders was the Arlinton Cemetery and along the same azmuth Fort Myers where we ran- in both venues, and ate at Enlisted mess in Fort Myers. Calling it a mess is a misnomer. They had table cloths flowers and condiments on the tables. They would bring your order to your table! Thanks to whomever burnt down the Marine mess. Semper Fi!
Me my mom dad and sister moved out of Colorado to the Philliphines and been here 3 months we went to manila for my dads va appointment we were needed back in 1 hour so we went to a nearby mall we met a US Marine and a US Army soldier they were both gurads for the US embassy here pretty cool dudes.

destiny titan -- True. One of my roommates was accepted to embassy guards way back in 1965. Another roommate went to Sea School. Corps has lots of billets that are not related to MOS.
MSG BN (as it used to be called) always had a different mission than MCSF BN (as it used to be called). MSG Det Seoul had some of the best Marines I ever lived and worked with. Jazzman, my brother from another mother. A great leader an a greater friend. The DetCmdr (Master Sergeant) was freaking awesome. His standards were high, in order to get us to the next level. His family was really welcoming. We became family. When I left Seoul, I took over as the assistant DetCmdr at my next post. I served with MSG Det Calcutta, India, Seoul, S Korea and Bucharest Romania
i beleive in my opinion that private security guards in America such as alllied, securitas and other private security companies need this training so they can have more educated and high trained guards let me know what you guys think in the comments

The Elite Master there are no commissioned officers at the actual posts. The highest ranking Marine is NCO and they report to a Regional Security Officer who is a civilian. That being said, you may be able to get an instructor position or something similar back at HQ.
you sir are incorrect.. each region has a Company commander a Company XO And a Company Operations Officer. A region may be responsible from 10 to 15 Detachments.
So what happened then to the US Ambassador to Lybia and the security there? The US Ambassador & Diplomatic Staff were murdered and from what i heard the request for Immediate Assistance was put through NUMEROUS TIMES while the US Embassy was under attack. Why wasn't the Security Threat Group better prepared and why was the request for Immediate Assistance ignored?
Listen, any Marine can apply and serve as an MSG. It isnt only for infantry Marines. All Marines are trained as basic riflemen and can request the duty. I was an 0844 artilley fire direction controlman when I was selected to attend the school.

Talk to a recruiter, but take what he says with a grain of salt recruiters tend to lie or make false promises to get you to sign up, make sure you are signing the right papers.
again you are wrong..the recruiter does put Poolees into this Special duty (B Billet) once you become a Marine then you May apply through your Career Planner.
Join the Corps first and put in a few years. Keep your nose clean both while you are in and prior to enlisting. I knew a guy at MSG school who was dropped because he had too many traffic tickets in his past.
As Larry said, there is no ASVAB requirement because it's not a primary MOS. You will only ever hold this billet for ~3 years at a time. You can reapply for different positions: MSG as E2-E5, DetComdr as E6-E7, and then you can get Region and Group billets at most ranks - I've seen everything from E3-O6 working at Regions and Group, but those will be kind of restricted based on your MOS and MSG status/history, but each of those billets will also only ever last three years at a time. You COULD go MSG as an E3, pick up E4 or E5 on the program, go back to the fleet for 3-6 years and then reapply as a DetComdr, and then, if you go 1stSgt, you could reapply AGAIN to become a Region 1stSgt, but no matter what, these will only be temporary posts and then you'll return to the fleet.

Correct each detachment has a Detachments Commander who is a E6-E8 but the Detachments fall under Regions that are commanded by an O5.

As Larry said, there is no ASVAB requirement because it's not a primary MOS. You will only ever hold this billet for ~3 years at a time. You can reapply for different positions: MSG as E2-E5, DetComdr as E6-E7, and then you can get Region and Group billets at most ranks - I've seen everything from E3-O6 working at Regions and Group, but those will be kind of restricted based on your MOS and MSG status/history, but each of those billets will also only ever last three years at a time.
You COULD go MSG as an E3, pick up E4 or E5 on the program, go back to the fleet for 3-6 years and then reapply as a DetComdr, and then, if you go 1stSgt, you could reapply AGAIN to become a Region 1stSgt, but no matter what, these will only be temporary posts and then you'll return to the fleet.
Minimum GT score of 90..
You need to serve time in your primary MOS and do an OUTSTANDING job before you can apply for this duty.
