    Hello, can I follow this recipe using wholemeal spelt flour? Thank you 😋

    • @BackyardChef
      @BackyardChef  7 місяців тому +5

      Yes, you can make scones using wholemeal spelt flour. Spelt flour is known for its nutty flavour and is considered a more ancient grain than wheat, often praised for its nutritional benefits. Wholemeal spelt flour, being less processed, retains more of the grain's natural nutrients and fiber.
      When using wholemeal spelt flour for scones, you may need to adjust the liquid content in your recipe since spelt flour can absorb more liquid than regular wheat flour. The texture of the scones might also be slightly different; they could be denser but still delicious. Best, Rik

      @@BackyardChef Hello Rik, I made the scones today using wholemeal spelt flour and added 10ml more milk as you suggested…. If using any kind of wholemeal flour, try soaking it in at least 75% of its weight in water, or combination water/milk @ room temp, for at least 2 hrs before baking. Add up the soaking liquid to the total liquid used in the baking (if the recipe calls for 100g liquid, soaking liquid was 75g, add only 25g more liquid, as an example). That's if the wholemeal flour was 100% of the flour used in the recipe. Sorry, I'm a bit of a baking math geek. 😅
      Trust me though, the soaking of the wholemeal flour ahead of time will definitely make for really fluffy bread, no matter what kind you bake.
