Delicious. I love home made scones. I used to make fruit scones and wholemeal, cherry scones. Which I used to have in a cafe. I'll have to make some with my grandson, some time.
Thank you. He is a lucky boy having a Grandma like you. Best, Rik
@@BackyardChef thank you. He loves pretending to cook. So he'll love really cooking something.

Soaking your fruit in boiling water to plump it up? Is that' problem as you get older? ;)
Great video Rick, thanks again for posting it.
Its great when you have less teeth mate
The fruits get juicier if you put them in water or as I do some times, let them soak in a mix of water/rum 😋. Gives a great flavour ...
Hahaha i think I'll soak my raisins in GentlemanvJack whiskey 😊
YES! Lovely! Thank you. Best, Rik
Hi Rik, I love a scone, will be making these today:-) any advice on making a dry scone?
Dates are my fruit of choice... kinda prefer whipped cream than butter.
I eat 3 dates everyday. Thank you. Best, Rik
🔥🔥🥰❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you. Best, Rik
I hope the Toyota doesn't give you too much trouble 😅 I spat my cup of tea when I read that hahaa
Ha ha ha - gone already! Thank you. Best, Rik
Maybe a weird question. If reworking the dough makes them rise less, then why not cut them in squares or diamonds instead of using a round cookie cutter?
Great suggestion. Thank you. Best, Rik
Can you freeze the dough please?
Yes you can. Best, Rik

There is a full list in the description. Best, Rik

English scones are American biscuits. No. Not cookies, The basic recipe for good biscuits or scones are identical. Have you ever had American biscuits with homemade sausage gravy?
Thank you. Best, Rik
Scones in the UK are usually a sweet treat.
Served with either butter or cream and jam..my mother made stupendously good scones...
My husband made them all the time when I lived in Coventry. I liked strawberry jam on them.
Thank you. Best, Rik@@nannymac47
Hi Rick, have you made fat rascals yet?
Yes on the channel. Thank you. Best, Rik
I tried your savoury pie crust. It turned out to be difficult. I think it was too dry!
Oh Dear! Thank you. Best, Rik
@@BackyardChef different altitudes bake differently.
@@monicamailman3796 Yes indeed that is why every recipe works as a base recipe and then you have to look at it and adjust. That's cooking - no one way for all. Thank you. Best, Rik

Thank you. Best, Rik
Always put fruit in the dry mixture. Otherwise it sticks. Too much talk.
Thank you. Best, Rik
Hello, can I follow this recipe using wholemeal spelt flour? Thank you 😋
Yes, you can make scones using wholemeal spelt flour. Spelt flour is known for its nutty flavour and is considered a more ancient grain than wheat, often praised for its nutritional benefits. Wholemeal spelt flour, being less processed, retains more of the grain's natural nutrients and fiber.
When using wholemeal spelt flour for scones, you may need to adjust the liquid content in your recipe since spelt flour can absorb more liquid than regular wheat flour. The texture of the scones might also be slightly different; they could be denser but still delicious. Best, Rik
@@BackyardChef Hello Rik, I made the scones today using wholemeal spelt flour and added 10ml more milk as you suggested…. The scones came out perfect, though they didn't rise as well as your one’s and next time I will add a teaspoon more baking powder…. The scones themselves, are absolutely delicious, they are light and fluffy and melt in the mouth with a fruity nutty flavour.… Thank you for a wonderful recipe 😋🤗
Thank you for trying and sharing. Best, Rik@@DaisyLillyxxx
If using any kind of wholemeal flour, try soaking it in at least 75% of its weight in water, or combination water/milk @ room temp, for at least 2 hrs before baking. Add up the soaking liquid to the total liquid used in the baking (if the recipe calls for 100g liquid, soaking liquid was 75g, add only 25g more liquid, as an example). That's if the wholemeal flour was 100% of the flour used in the recipe. Sorry, I'm a bit of a baking math geek. 😅
Trust me though, the soaking of the wholemeal flour ahead of time will definitely make for really fluffy bread, no matter what kind you bake.
❤
@@iluminameluna Thank you for the tip 🤗
I don’t understand this, I’ve tried this with exact measurements TWICE and both times I ended up with a really gooey mess. I lost about 1 scone worth stuck to my hands that had to be washed away. I have had a lot of success with other recipes that use less milk but I thought I would give this a try. 🙁
Oh no! A tad more flour might sort it - if not stick to the ones you have had success with. Thank you. Best, Rik
Hug the chef! Nice scones.
I'll Take a hug any day - thank you. Best, Rik
Wow Rik, another super easy recipe .Yes I love scones for breakfast or afternoon tea.
Every easy on my channel. Best, Rik
Thanks Rik for your great scone recipe tutorial. I soak the fruit in hot, strong earl grey tea. It's good how you repeat about over working the dough.
Great tip! Best, Rik
Where did you find the recipe ?
Sorry. I thought there maybe a printed recipe.....and how many mm of milk?
try making into a thick suasage shape then cut into thick discs
Leave that to you. Thank you. Best, Rik
My mother never used a cutter she just cut them with a knife freehand so she didn’t ever need to rehandle not so neat but very light scones😊
That was your Mum - what about you? Thank you. Best, Rik
❤❤
Thank you. Best, Rik
Thanks Rick, love your show! I just had an idea! How about one large scone with spare pieces mark with knife and glaze, sprinkle with granulated sugar and bake with the rest!😊
Maybe it would be best to cut them through then bake!😊
Great idea! Thank you. Best, Rik
