    Great video Dan. I am in the process of removing the engine of the 2000 XJ. I wanna know if I can pull the engine out with hoist from front with the transmission and transfer case attached. Do I need to have to remove the transfer case or does engine bay has enough room for everything to come out? It seems transfer case is wide but not sure until I do it. Any tip appreciated. The engine hoist has a tilt for adjustable angle.

    • @ProjectDanH
      @ProjectDanH  2 роки тому +3

      I would def recommend removing the transfer case first. The weight and bulk would make it very difficult to maneuver.

    • @vr5.s507
      @vr5.s507 2 роки тому +3

      @@ProjectDanH hi Dan thanks for the response. I attempted it couple weeks ago, engine transmission and transfer case came altogether without any issue using HF engine hoist. The most important thing I did was to use engine mount to lift the engine. I bolted the chain ends to rear mount hole on each sides. These lift points gave me a perfect balance to angle the engine to pull out from the front. Make sure you use ratchet strap to tie the far end of transfer case to hoist. This is to control the angle of whole thing as you pull it out gradually. Everything came out nice a tidy with the help of two teenagers. Your videos are inspirational to many of us. You rock.

    Hey !! when you lower the transmission the engine trims backward! It is right for the engine mounts ?? or they will crack???

    • @ProjectDanH
      @ProjectDanH  3 роки тому +1

      Yes it definitely does. The engine mounds in this video were extremely worn so they had virtually no resistance when this was lowered . With fresh OEM rubber mounts it probably would not tilt as much but would recover from the tilting better. I couldn't imagine Urethane or sold mounds flexing very much so its possible they could be damaged. If you are concerned about the mounts you may not want to lower your trans quite as much.

    I’m in the middle of removing my NP242D and was curious once removing the TC from the tranny, is the ATF+4 coming from the TC or Trans? Ive searched online and even called the dealership and haven’t found anything out! My original 242 decided to grenade itself on the freeway so I’m not sure if I need to top off the transmission fluid or not.

    • @ProjectDanH
      @ProjectDanH  2 роки тому

      Probably a little of both, before reinstallation replace the seals and then when everything is back together give yourself fresh fluid.

    Is removing a 231j transfer case similar? Also does having a standard transmission make a difference in how you remove it?

    • @ProjectDanH
      @ProjectDanH  5 років тому +1

      The 231 removes the exact same way as the 242. The only real difference between the two sets ups in terms of parts are the notches on the shifter lever. I haven't personally removed one from a manual but I would assume the out put of the transmissions should be the same and wouldn't affect the job. Thanks for watching!

      You may need to pop it into neutral to spin the driveshaft to get to the bolts.. other than that is shouldn't matter.. make sure the vehicle is secured.. don't want it to roll over you when you pull the shaft.

      You dont have to remove the trans but its too high to get to all the bolts and you need room to get to the linkages, so you need to remove the driveshafts, and just lower the trans.

    Hey man it's me again. So I got the np242 transfer case replaced. Took me a day to do it. I also did the universal joints on the front and rear drive drafts. Reconnected all the lines. And then went to bed. Didn't test or drive the Jeep since the install. Now since I change the transfer case the Jeep stalls when I come to a stop... If I put it into neutral it will usually not stall. Do you think I pulled out or damaged one of the vacuum lines? It didn't do this before. it only started this after the transfer case job

    • @ProjectDanH
      @ProjectDanH  5 років тому +1

      This may be unrelated, how long was it sitting? did your battery get too drained? definitely check all the vacuum lines, make sure your alternator is generating enough amps, and check the neutral safety switch.. maybe you bonked it during the swap.
