  • Come and watch me suffer with my mortal enemy,.. the dreaded snap ring. Thought I had the proper pliers, but didn't.. I have it now though...
Today we are tearing down this new process gear 242 transfer case for bearing, chain, and seal replacement. Showing the operation of the 'full time / part time" Ravigneaux gear set, and Simpson reduction gear sharing a common sun gear. This additional gear set allows the vehicle to be driven in 'full-time' 4wd hi without binding of the front and rear axles. This differs from a 208, 231, 241 style which locks the 4hi front and rear output together.

what are/did you putting this 242 into? What yoke is on it for front drive shaft. Am re-newing one to go in a 5speed TJ. Am changing to longer trans input out of 231. Got suggestion on what to do with front driveshaft? It has the more typical yoke on it and not the Rzepa.yoke.. but been told the 231 yoke and the 242 yoke... while look same.... they aren't (part #'s support that too)

Probably a dumb question, but how did you remove the slip yolk off the rear of the shaft? Driveshaft blew off today because of a bad u-joint and I need to remove it to press the u joints out and I can’t get it to budge
