Can I just shout out how thoughtful Kelly is that she said "for those blessed with more melanin"? Is there actually anyone who is so deprived of melanin that they can wear mineral sunscreens? I’m white af, blue eyes nordic, superpale, reflecting light back to the atmosphere thus contributing to global warming, white and even I look like I’m dead with mineral sunscreen. Not a white or grey cast, but weird greenish hue that makes me look ghostly.
@@hannal5512 I tested a tinted mineral sunscreen (Ultra Violette Lean Screen) today - no coverage, but no white cast on my ~ MAC NW24 skin. It felt quite thick though, and I have really limited tolerance for annoying sunscreens, but I could see lots of people loving this!

I have oily skin but I usually steer clear from products aimed towards my skin type because they tend to be too drying and/or sensitizing. I think there seems to be a misconception among skin care brands that this is what oily skin needs lol. I think there isn't such a big difference in what our skin needs between skin types. Just a little bit less occlusivity for us oily peeps, that's all. And of course avoiding certain highly comedogenic ingredients like coconut oil etc. (this is where it gets more individual). I have noticed I am better off using skin care products aimed towards normal or dry skin and just watching out for what might cause breakouts and putting the emphasis on hydration and soothing.
First the One Think Toner and then the Dear,Klairs Supple Preparation unscented Toner - this combi works very good for my sensitve dry skin. Greets from Germany 😊
Hi Kelly the "on paper it looks good, but really doesn't work" is a real issue for me tbh. I have such hyper sensitive skin with rosacea and eczema - it is really finniky. Some of the products i have been the most excited about have really not worked, or given me huge reactions on patch testing. The most memorable one recently was the stratia liquid gold. i live in Scotland and got my sister to bring it across from the US - I was so excited to try it lol. All those barrier care ingredients and all the hype across many of the beauty videos I watch, had made me really eager to try it. Fortunately I always patch test everything and even on my chest this caused a major welts and swelling reaction - I had to wash it off pretty much immediately. There have been many others and perhaps the one before that which caused such a major reaction was the Iunik black snail serum - another oh dear need to remove that immediately reaction. Both on paper looked fine. Other things don't cause an immediate reaction and yet within a few days I realise it's causing a problem eg the bonajour water bomb toner really dried me out and caused a low level irritation - probably all the HA in it which my skin can be very unhappy with. Best wishes.
@@beckyc.5743 Yes, but cereve stings/burns on my skin - another disappointment lol. I use Eucerin a fair bit and like a couple of their moisturisers. Rosacea sucks I have it very mild and still struggle to find suitable products. I have dry skin and yet I can’t handle oils at all. They cause me to “overheat”. La Roshe Posay has many good products for me. The cicaplast baume is my saviour.

You said it all, Kelly! I also feel so angry with products that "targets" sensitive skin people, promissing healing and calming effects, but then they put things that are potentially irritating. 😪
I have the worst issue with looking at products for sensitive skin or that is supposed to be calming….and then I read it has essential oils and such….whyyyy
It drives me crazy when I find a product that is for “Sensitive Skin/Soothing” and I start reading the ingredients and then it’s packed with essential oils! Citrus essential oils esp make my skin so irritated, and I will never understand why they would be put into a product for barrier care and sensitive skin! There are a lot of products that I really want to try but I just don’t want to take the chance that my face will react badly… In a perfect world companies will offer both scented and Unscented versions of all of their products! A girl can dream…
Cinnamon? It’s very misleading to see a product geared toward sensitive skin with that ingredient. I’ve also seen other ingredients that are touted as soothing including menthol, cardamom and lavender. These ingredients make my skin red, itchy and cause dermatitis breakouts especially along the jawline. Thanks for reporting on the products that didn’t work for you. It’s much appreciated!
Well lavender does have soothing properties. The problem with it is it’s a plant extract so there’s no measurement of how much of the beneficial compounds you’re getting. Then there’s the chance of allergies/sensitivity. Then there’s the photo degradation which means wearing it in the sun is a no no. Lotta no no’s lmao
Thank you for sharing your fails. Completely agree about Versed SOF. Especially That grit! I thought I got a bad tube and exchanged it…still awful. Total fail in every way. The issue of extracting via denatured alcohol is so fascinating and would explain some issues I've had with typically soothing ingredients. Would love to see a video where you talk about other products you suspect extract this way 🌹👍
Different yet very helpful video! Recently, my dud product was the Ordinary's EGCG and Caffeine serum-applied it all over my face one day when my skin was very sensitive and my skin broke out in irritation bumps everywhere! It lasted 2 weeks even with my best barrier repair toolkit. I will say about One Thing, however, that I got their bifida ferment lysate product and it is advertised as not being extracted with alcohol- and i definitely do not smell or feel it on my skin! I recently added it into my routine so I do not know about long term benefits, but the texture is just lovely! I'm using that Isntree green tea cleanser now- as a single step when I'm super greasy LOL! Otherwise yes it can be a tad drying. I've been LOVING haruharu's black rice gel cleanser!!! Unscented and the most satisfying gel texture, not drying at all! hope youre enjoying spring so far
I had to ditch Hylamide’s SubQ Skin as it was breaking me out I figured out too much HA so if a product includes more than 3 types of HA I am steering clear of it

I haven’t found any Korean cleanser that works for my oily, sensitive, acne prone skin. In my experience, this is not their strong suit like their amazing toners and essences. I’m sticking with European cleansers (Avene, Bioderma, La Roche Posay). I do have two One Thing toners that I am now reluctant to try because, yes, the alcohol extraction process is a problem. Thank you for enlightening us on that. Hopefully my body will like them. 😊
I have the One Thing centella asiática extract. Have oily sensitive skin and have had no issues with the 3 bottles I've used up past few years. So it never gets a chance to fully dry on my face. 😄 I though am ready for a change now and try a different toner/extract with centella asiática!
I wonder if another reason your skin got inflamed from the jumiso serum is because of all of the hyaluronic acid. I don't know if you've seen Dr. Shereen Idriss's video on hyaluronic acid, but the lower molecular weight HAs can cause an inflammatory response in the skin.
I’m really surprised you haven’t tried Daymellow Houttuynia Cordata Real Soothing Essence. It’s pretty much everything you love lol. those universal tint sunscreens never work for me, they're always way too dark/orange on me :(
Omg I know, the cheeto face is real!
Same, but on the flip side I found that the color changing foundations and spf's do work for my pale skin, while others say they don't work and just make them look white - yep, blends to my skin tone perfectly 😂
If you say no, that's it for me 😁 Kelly you should try the skin1004 sunscreen, for a mineral sunscreen I am loving it!
Oooh interesting! What is it like? I'm always looking for a nice new mineral sunscreen
Oh nice, thanks for the rec I'll take a look!
@@oceanbird. it has a beige tint. When you first apply it you can see a white cast but I don't know why when it dries down at least for me it leaves a very nice color on my skin. It is not drying but not shiny...my skin loves it 😘
@@KellyDriscoll Would looove to see what you think about it. I loove the brand
Nice video as always Kelly :) The ''checks out on paper, but didn't work for me'' was the case for me with the Bonajour Green Tea Water Bomb. I've got oily combo, and sadly this is just to heavy/slightly suffocating on my oily T- and Butterfly zone :(
The same with me and I have dry skin. Kt just won’t absorb and leaves the skin an oily mess. It’s so bad I struggle to use it up anywhere else in the body. I have similar issues with the Naturekind urea cream. Won’t absorb into face but thankfully it’s fine as a hand cream.
Wow! This is very interesting! Thank you💗
You're so welcome, glad you enjoyed!
every tinted mineral sunscreen ive used has that issue of oxidizing, especially around the edges of my face and it's SUCH a bad look.. i hate it so much
Omg the oxidizing is so bad, almost as bad as white cast!
Products ya don't love. I can relate.🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗😤😤😤😤😤
I already retired from k beauty bcos i realise the more I try, the more it gets irritated. every damn time I try new products, although I opt for fragrance free they still have these plant extract, fruit extract, flower extract which the contribution of my break out. k beauty has so many of these, so I can totally can't avoid. the only k beauty I have is sunscreen from soon jung, the only good thing does for my skin
That's too bad! Plant extracts can be a mixed bag!
I totally hear you! Plant extracts do not work for me at all; they cause lots of little closed comedones on my face and neck 😣
@@kendallstark4302 omg exactly what I went through 😱 I didn't corporate niacinamide in my routine but after that realisation, I had to add it and my skin is better now!
@@ryeofoatmeal yes!!! I adore niacinamide! I use The Ordinary's 10% + zinc 1%. Which do you use?
@@kendallstark4302 I'm using the same! don't wanna try any other brand anymore. I have so much fear 😅
Thanks for another great upload 👍 😀
Damn, Jumiso’s serum actually has become my most fav serum with my acne… it’s really funny hahaha, but I had to keep using for a week or two before it suddenly started to work as miracle :D my skin is super sensitive to everything, even niacin aide can be dangerous at high percentage, any perfume or essential oils…. Sunscreens, too. really sad it caused you irritation though :( thank you for sacrificing for us, Kelly xD
Hi Kelly! I would love to hear your thoughts on skin1004 Brightening Ampoule..😊😊
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out!
@@KellyDriscoll It does sting a bit when my skin is feeling extra irritated!
I agree with all of these 💖💖💖
tq for sharing!
❤❤
Great video kells! Another video suggestion: hair care but using korean hair care products! Its a whole unexplored world for me and i was blown away by the brands and products i didnt know existed!
Now I understand. At first my skin feels refreshed after using the One Thing Artemisia but after two weeks my skin starts to itch and became irritated 🥹 Thanks for this. It’s very enlightening.
