I Became a Mom to 3 Baby Rats. (They Should've Been Food)

- HOW I ENDED UP THE MOM TO 3 TWO AND A HALF WEEK OLD RATS.
Please listen to all my disclaimers in the video (16:50) before thinking or assuming any feeder rats/mice need to be "saved" from becoming meals. They absolutely do not need to be, snakes need food and feeder rats are typically bred in ways that would make awful pets. They have poor genetics a lot of the time and also are not socialized in a way that a pet rat would be. These rats for some reason are sold simultaniously as pets and feeders at this store, and I somehow accidentally brought the Dumbo home instead of the typical all white rat...and i just couldn't feed it. This is just my story, not a lesson on what you should do. Never take on a pet you are incapable of handling. I made sure I was capable of handling rats before announcing them to my channel because I want to be responsible. It's been 2 months and they are thriving, and I adore them endlessly.

As a rat owner of 8 years, just wanted to give some advice. Don't do the mealworms everyday, I do once or twice a month. Too much protein in rats, especially in males, can cause itchy skin.
For the protein i also like to give Them a Hard cooked egg also only once a Month but they Love it when i Took them out they Play lets call it catch and eat hahaha but they Love it also the Shell also contains calcium you should try it if you didnt they will Love ist i Promise :D
Okey sorry i didnt saw that you keep them since 8 years but i think you already tried this :) have a Nice day
those aren't mealworms that she put in there. Those are morioworms.
-jadeproductions- it’s still can be too much protein which isn’t good.
@@iiKiley yes I know, I wasn't disagreeing with you ;). I meant that morioworms are even worse because their fat ratio is also higher

this cage is NOT for RATS. I have rats and my cage is higher and wider than me. Rats need plenty of space to play, eat, retire, and get them out for an hour or two a day, otherwise they may be claustrophobic or have flawed social behavior and become snappy.
You guys ready for ratatouille deluxe live action blue ray edition?
Guys thanks for the likes and heart
I bought a feeder rat for a pet, and he never bit anyone. He was my big fat baby :) sadly he passed last Christmas Eve due to age, but I loved him very much.
Demonic Barbie I’m so sorry for your loss, but he lived a good life and escaped his would have been fate as food.
Aww i know how it feels to lose a pet and hes probably munching away in heaven now
Just some advice since now you have got pet rats
1. They need 2-5 hours of playing time (i recommend you do this in the after noon because they are most active then)
2. They are nocturnal so make sure they have LOTS of comfortable spots in their cage cause they will be playing later
3. I recommend not get a wheel because it hurts thier spine unless you get a particular type of one
4. They can NOT vomit meaning never feed them any of these foods
.apple seeds
.chilies
.blue cheese
.green bananas
.green potato skin
.licorice
.orange juice
.mango
.raw artichokes
.raw dry beans or peanuts
.cabbadge and brussel sprouts
.sweet potato
.avocado
.rhubarb
.sticky foods
.peanut butter
.some sticky candy's
.dried fruits
5. Get a big cage 4 they are very active
6. Keep the male in a different cage if you dont want babies
7. Get gus a male friend if you keep him in a different cage
And thats it!
gatcha girl may I ask why you shouldn’t feed your rats peanut butter or dried fruits cause I fed my rats both of these and they never choked on either of them
@@sierra1252 because peanut butter is too sticky and every time you feed them this you are risking your rats life because their mouth can get a bit stuck together and might not be able to eat it. Also, if they do get sick from it they cannot vomit it out. Im actually not sure why you cant feed rats dried fruits. You'll have to look it up lol.
@@charlieholly4868 rats are supposed to have dried or frozen fruits it is actually really good for them they just have to be in small pieces
@@emmagregory7911 yeah, looking back at this comment i realised that some of the food you can feed them, just not too much lol
@@charlieholly4868 yeah but fruits and veggies are really good and sometimes even little bits of eggs for good protein
I love this!! I "rescued" 2 baby boy rats while I lived dorm life in college. NOT ON PURPOSE, but I was volunteering at an animal shelter in Albany NY and this kid comes in one day and puts these two ratties on the desk. They were so tiny and adorable. Apparently the kid had a pair and didn't know any better than to house a male and female together.... They did, well, what they do, and his female gave birth. The kids Dad's reaction was to feed them to the cats they had in the scrap yard they owned. Kid managed to stuff 2 in his pocket before his jerk father gave the death march, these two. Love at first sight, brought them home that night, did all the research I could, and then went shopping. Bubba and Boo were my boys! They were HUGE! I had Boo (albino dumbo) for 5 and half years. Bubba gave me 6 wonderful years (I knew he was having trouble living without his brother, but a new rat into'd just bothered him in his old age). I loved being a rat mom. and I love that with everything you could have you gave them a chance!
Just a tip, iceberg lettuce should be avoided. It's mostly water, has next to no nutrition, and can cause diarrhea.
Also, 30 minutes free range daily isn't really enough. It's better than none, but the generally accepted minimum is 1 hour every day. Obviously it's okay if every once in a while it's less than an hour, but that should be the average minimum.
Oh! And if you're looking for fun treats, they go bonkers over those Gerber baby poofs.
I always avoid ice burg, because of my guinea pig and double lion head/ or mane not exactly sure ( I know I’m terrible 😭) but with their diet I always avoid certain things (like apple seeds) even if the other can have it I just don’t give either of em it (in case I accidentally switch it up)
@@ariathegatchaversenoobie9976 Understandable! I typically cook dog safe because I'm a sucker and like to share with my dog, so almost everything I make is rat and dog safe.
Was also gonna comment about the lettuce.

i just feel sketched out that you're saying they're feeders but its so obvious that they're breed as dumbos which is a pet rat breed and seem to be free of respiratory issues. Even if they had good genes, feeder rats get sick often because of their environment and they seemed completely straight from a breeder. You're telling me someone who paid the money and applied for baby dumbos started breeding them as feeder rats?? I just don't think that's likely... especially coming out of a pet store that would kill to sell them and make profit off of what seems to be pure dumbos. I've had rats for a year, and mine were half dumbo half pet store rat and through all the headaches and constant cleaning i STILL struggle to keep them healthy because of their genes. I've spent a lot of money in vet bills and antibiotics, and still these "feeder rats" are healthy? That's not a compliment, as long as rats are kept clean and fed properly the genes will decide how healthy they stay. Why are you so obviously lying about them being feeders? i really don't care as long as you make the time but it almost feels like you don't agree with taking these rats on purposefully.
kaylaj00e I agree, it just doesn’t line up. Rats require loads for care and she has nowhere close to the time needed with 50+ other animals. I don’t think she is a bad person, I just think she needs to tell the truth and stop getting more animals when she doesn’t really have the time to care for the ones she currently owns
I would recommend giving them the adult rat food (oxbow). The baby rat food has alfalfa in it, which can cause a blockage in their stomach if given to them everyday. Make sure to give them extra protein if you give them the adult rat food.
0ofadagoose i think that’s what she’s feeding them
Maddie G she’s feeding them oxbow, but it’s the baby rat food from what I saw in the video.

SaltySeaDogz, it’s not exactly harmful it just has no nutritional value whatsoever so you should avoid giving it to them
Spinach isnt even that good for people!!! Kale shouldnt be given often. The best is arugula, baby romaine, baby lettuce etc.
your rats are so adorable. I know you have already done a meet all my pets video. But it has been a while since you've made one. I love watching your videos.
Petshmo is horrible. In our area there was a flood. We knew that it was going to happen. Petshmo took out some animals, and left all of the others in the store. They all were killed in the flood. Trapped in cages and tanks as the water flooded the store. They did reopen but are not allowed to sell pets (that I know of). I refuse to patronize that chain store.

Would you do a video on how much a week you spend on your animals? It just always seem so expensive when you talk ya out it, think it would be interesting to know for potential future pet owners.
Molly Perry Yes i agree
Yessss
That's a great idea!!
Might keep some people who aren't serious about it off the hobby..
Not to be mean, but many people would consider that a serious invasion of privacy... it’s a kind of rude/inappropriate thing to ask someone, esp since she would be basically revealing her income to a bunch of strangers
She's putting her animals online, it wouldn't be an invasion of privacy to go over how much an animal actually costs, it's actually a good for prospective pet owners to know exactly what they are getting into, most if not all animals are deceptively expensive, my coworker just dropped like $1000 in vet bills for her lizard, and my dog and cat easily cost me $3000 (just the staples not including emergency vet bills, toys or destroyed furniture) a year My cat was inherited, but my dog cost me about $1000 for supplies and initial vet bills. The rats are a little less of a financial commitment, probably under $500 upfront, and if you're thrifty usually less than $20 a month to maintain (definitely put money aside for vet bills though) my tarantula might cost me $20 a year if that. I don't want to think about how much money I've spent on my fish. Fish are not cheap. fish are not easy. fish are not for the weak.

@@TheCraftyJ are you that desperate that you post on every post? Get a life!!
Speaking as someone with 15+ years of experience, there's really no difference between "fancy" rats and the white "feeders". The adults only bite and are flighty because they've never been socialized and are very often treated like products rather than living things. When socialized, baby "feeders" make just as lovely pets as the more colorful varieties. I currently have one "fancy" rat and one "feeder" who I bought to be his buddy. If anything, it's the one who was being sold as a feeder who grew up to be friendliest. He is also partially free-range, just like my other, and is trained to only go to the bathroom inside of his cage. He's not dirty in the slightest. And this is not an oddity. I've literally never known any "feeder" purchased young who did not behave just the same as ones being sold as pets. Rats are rats. It doesn't matter what color their fur is, or what their ears look like.
My 2 first mice and my first 3 rats were actually ALL “feeders” and one one of the mice ended up being cranky & all the others were the sweetest. It’s just like any other animal, their temperament is mostly dependent upon how they are treated!
They are different tho.
My first rat was bread specifically as a pet from a long line of quality animals.
He had good genetics, was quite smart, social, soft and lived almost 3 times as long as the rats I bought from a person who breeds feeders.
That feeder rat was the same breed but he had all sorts of health issues, cost me a lot in vet bills, his fur was thin and his skin had issues. He was a lot less intelligent. He lived a third the life my first rat did and he never truly warmed up to me the way my first rat did despite weeks and months and countless hours of effort.
I learned my lesson. Never buying feeders as pets again.
Shay Rose a fancy rat is just a word for the domesticated grey rat. They're the same as the white ones, and both can be considered "feeders" and both are likely inbread if they come from the same company.
In other words the "fancy" rats at your store are feeders, not pets.
@@savanna3866 I'm sorry that happened to you! But that can happen with any male rat regardless of lineage. It's hormones. Some don't have any issues, but some male rats go a little crazy during puberty. Usually neutering them will help because it removes the testosterone that's driving them crazy!
@@innercitydaydreamer1124 I had the opposite experience! The rat I purchased from a breeder who focused on health died young of a ZGT. The rats I rescued I adopted from either rescues or people who had oops litters lived much longer, 2.5+ years.
I just got a mice killing pellet add, Gee thanks UA-cam.
Omg the way you care for your animals are so good but I’m just watching rat vids because I’m getting one soon but I just love how u care for them xoxo have a good day/night Taylor 😊
Just some information: they only need one hammock and they don't need a feed bowl. They benefit from not having a feed bowl because they like it better if you hide their food in their tunnels nd that. Also be prepared to pay so much in vet bills, their very prone to resptory issues and tumours. They need to be handled daily. They don't need a wheel but most people get one, if you do make sure it keeps their back straight as it can damage their back and tail.
you should keep the pellets and the veggies seperated! also, veggies every now and then are more than enough, good pellets contain most of the things rats need! giving them variety only turns them knto picky eaters,(i have learned my lesson over the years) so try to stick to the same diet, but switch up the treats! You are a good rat mommy!
I can’t think of a creative name thank you for the tips!!!
Taylor Nicole Dean you are welcome! your rats are so spoiled wow *~*
Taylor Nicole Dean i can also recommend zip tying dollar store baskets to the bars as extra levels! my rats love it so much! or throw a roll of paper towels in there, they will shredd it up and build nests (be warned tho, it is one hell of a mess to clean)
a mix is good if they start being picky you're feeding too much :-)
lanebreakerRBH no food (pellets) are always in their cage and veggies a few times a week. if i do a “”salad”” for them they will not eat some if the things, like carrots, they just won’t, but if i give them carrots without other veggies they’ll eat it. that what i meant haha :D
I have two rats and they are so affectionate!! They are like little dogs. I don’t understand why people hate them so much
Same, I had 2 gerbils who were the sweetest little babies ever
I’m watching this because I “had” a rat. He was supposed to be fed to my snake, but she did not eat him. We put him in a cage so my snake can eat him later. I couldn’t help it, he was so cute and I got attached. I told my parents about it and tried to convince them to keep it. I woke up the next morning and couldn’t find his cage....
I realized my parents fed him to the snake while I was asleep.

AnimeIsMyLife Seriously Ikr!
Non I guess you’re a vegan then? Bc we do some of the same things to get the animal products we eat
@Non there is no other way to feed them though....??? if it's a last resort then what is the first resort i don't understand
the first resort is frozen thawed or freshly killed if you have the stomach for it.since it's more humane for both the snake and rodent.it also prevents the snake from being injured cause rodent teeth are no joke.
@@briannaharter4411 not all snakes eat frozen food though /: i mean, i guess that is a safer alternative but i don't see how it's more natural than live feeding, which is what that person was trying to argue. snakes probably aren't going to come across frozen mice in the wild
Not sure if someone already told you but rats need around 2h of running around (not in cage) daily.
I’m not professional breeder or anything like that but have 7 years of experience and you definitely can see the difference when they run for this time comparing to 20/40 minuets ☺️
Brynlee Drosky most of her pets are perfectly fine with the lifestyle she has but pets like rats, dogs etc unfortunately are not. Those types of animals do need full time commitment, routines, attention.
I’m more than sure she’s doing everything she can to give the best life to her animals and truly hope she’ll change something with rat routine OR give them away to someone that will give them what they need ☺️
I don't think she cares. I think she's going to mass breed them as a food supply....
Mardynga, thanks for being so KIND and NICE and DECENT! this is a perfect example of how to talk to ANOTHER HUMAN and to help them. You are such a refreshing person to come across here!
Its not neccesary if you keep them in a large cage with other rats.
Zebratje it is very very necessary, rats are running animals that means they need except stimulation like climbing or socialising a lot of just running on a flat surface. Of course if in the room is bed, desk, something that they can climb to is amazing but they need to run for few ours daily 😇

Im Your Shadow if she doesn’t then she wouldn’t buy the animal, what she have enough money to afford them unlike you
@@itzishaart718 She could be fucking rich as Bill Gates, but none of it matters if she doesn't take proper care of the animals she buys, keeps, "rescues". She's not gonna stop because she doesn't know how to, buying animals is a therapy for her and especially when she shows it off youtube, it gives her the "hoarding high". Her introducing the new animals she got is probably the first and last time we'll see that animal until we hear/see a sob story from her about how they died, but it wasn't her fault of course, it was other people's fault obviously since she's still supposed to be "learning and experiencing" how to take care of them. Then her little minions will rush to her side and attack everyone she claims whose fault it is and console her about how it's okay. It could all been have avoided if she did a little bit more research on the animal and not simply buy it out of impulse. Just cause she has the money doesn't mean she should buy, her lack of proper care towards these animals are just plain unintentional abuse at this point.
It’s her job. She is an animal educator

I myself currently have 13 rats with 4 more on the way. The food you're feeding them is awesome, but you don't need to feed Young Rat Oxbow. It has alfalfa in it that they don't need. They can eat Adult Oxbow. Jus add extra protein to their diet like 2 or 3 times a week for babies. Your cage is awesome! The perfect size for them!

I am actually over the years an owner of 9 rats. And from rat care standards from the food to the cage it looks amazing. Keep up the good work!!!
DONT LET GOOSE ANYWHERE NEAR THE SAND BOA GEESE LOVE TOAST!!!
hey taylor!! a few notes from a long-time rat owner! you’re doing a great job, but there are a few things in your video that aren’t 100% accurate!
feeders, generally speaking, can be tamed. depending on how inbred/mistreated the feeder populations are, that might not be true, but generally feeders are all still norwegian rats and bred to be docile to some extent, to minimize snake injuries. i have seen many feeders be fantastic & gentle pets!
the other thing i noticed is the proportion of greens to grains and the brand of oxbow! the best balanced oxbow is the adult rat formula (which is small triangles, not those blocks) or mazuri, which is used by many breeders. you’re feeding a little bit too many greens, and a little not enough oxbow. what i recommend is free-feeding the oxbow (keeping a full bowl of it in the cage at all times) and supplementing with vegetables 3x a week, not every day. it’s also best to avoid lettuce, spinach, and kale, as they can cause stomach issues!
but other than that, you’re doing a good job for a first time rat momma!
As a special special treat, I sometimes would give my rats a little bit of chocolate. They loved it. (Once a week and very little).
This should be top comment
inbreeding rats is a common practice for breeders. it is a tool used to find unwanted traits and underlying health issues in a line. rats can be inbred for 20+generations without any I'll effect and can actually produce rats with better immune systems
The adult version of oxbow is what I give my 2 year old rat and my other rats in the past its works so well and is a amazing nutritional diet
Chris Dulour totally, in cases where the rats being inbred are of good stock to begin with. but some feeders are bred regardless of temperment & health, and inbreeding depression can cause malignant traits to be magnified. still, i think most feeders can be great pets.
I'm so happy that you chose to keep the rat instead of giving it to the snake ❤️ rats are so sweet, I have been keeping rats most of my life till now, they are so sweet and amazing and cute and loving ❤️💕 I'm happy to see how people fall in love with rats.

omg they're so precious we need to protect them
Have you had any reactions from feeding them wheat? I'm gluten(wheat) free myself and had a few Red marks start coming up after playtime since feeding a block style food
@ Taylor Nicole Dean Hello new rat mom ♥ I'm a rat mom of two gorgeous brothers, Serious & Remus. Some hints/tips on raising rats: Something that's really important in their diet, they need meat, they are omnivores. Salt chews are bad for them, they'll overdose themselves on salt. Garlic and onion in large quantities can be bad for them, they can have SMALL amounts of chocolate, and they really need a lot of wood & mineral chew to help keep their teeth trimmed down. A really good idea is to keep puzzle type toys to keep them entertained. Eventually your adorable rat babies will figure out how to open up their cage doors, so a small lock will become necessary. Grooming (licking, nibbling, holding) your hands is a sign of affection, they're likely to do this anytime your hand is near them :) Hope this helps ♥
LaRosa Hjort you a new rat mom then how do you know for sure if your new
Hey so what kinds of meat should you feed a ratty baby
I know that this has been posted six months ago, but I am still going to react. Meat is good for a rat if you use the right sort of meat, but it is not necessary. Personally, I wouldn't even consider giving your rats onion or garlic, as it is bad anyway. Small amounts of chocolate are okay, but it has to be very very dark. I agree with the rest though
Hi, I’m thinking about getting pet rats, thank you for the information!
I like your names but if you’re basing them off of the HP characters it’s Sirius. Really cool name choices though!
I don’t get why people are so afraid of PET rats they are so cuteee and nothing like the wild ones
No idea. I had two as a kid loved them and cried when they died. They don't live long but they super smart.
i love this! i will say every feeder ive had which has been a lot have been the sweetest but i dont know if it comes to more interaction or chance
So cute they are the best!!! Goose&pigeon&dove are the bestttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Btw I love ur knife 🔪)
btw chicken bones are amazing for rats :-) once a month
You actually have to be very careful with bones, since they can splinter.
@@charlottelyons6178 not with rats
rats are safe eating chicken bones because they grind and dont bite like dogs. its a common misconception
@@lanebreakerRBH I don't know how your rats take food, but mine act like they've never been fed before when they're getting a really good treat. When they grab food they bite down hard. No grinding going on then.
@@charlottelyons6178 my boys act like they're starving every time I feed them
however the facts are the facts
rats grind
the dont chew like dogs
bones are safe for rats to eat

I love Goose! More Goose videos would be absolutely lovely ♡
The knife you cut the cucumber with is so cool!
I've been having a downer morning - this made me smile
Goose is totes adorbs
hi taylor!!! i’m so happy you got rats :) they’re amazing pets. however, *i would not feed them spinach as the oxalate levels in it cause kidney stones and such* i’ve had many generations of rats for years and i thought you should know :) also i would consider *lining the floors* to prevent bumblefoot in their feet from walking on hard or wired surfaces too much
jiminniemouse thank you for the tips!! No more spinach for them and I’ll get cage liners!!
Taylor Nicole Dean thank you for responding omg!! i wish people wouldn’t give you so much shit for owning animals. you listen to all our tips and you’re doing your best always!! send goose dove and pigeon my love~
Just curious what bumblefoot is. This is the second time I've heard it this week. The other was regarding a rooster.
Elfie In Angel City bumblefoot is something that affects rats’ feet when they run on a primarily wire or hard metal floors that cause repeated trauma to the soft tissue on their feet pads. it’s actually an infection, but for rats, they’re more vulnerable to this infection by a long shot when their feet are worn down or swollen or even cut from the wire floors since they run and move so much. generally it’s better for them to have some liners or padding to protect them from injury. i think birds can have it too as you said but i think it’s a little different for them.
@@elfiefromangelcity6142 my quail had it too
Goose definitely picked you!
Goose is cute! I thought I am over my head with seven animals lol... Love u tnd!
Goose is the cutest rat I have ever saw

Yh
Most adorable rat content right here when Taylor repeatedly has to put Goose back in the cage after he gets so excited and hyper after kissing her fingers😂😍😁😍

As a person who has had 10 rats I do agree that they are very tumor prone. However they are also very very prone to upper respiratory infections. When they get the infection is very hard to get rid of and can be very deadly. I’m not a professional but Beta carotene is a supplement that helps treat immune deficiency. It’s a great way to prevent the infection. Another way to prevent it is humidifiers. They help add a little moisture to the air that rats need. I just thought I’d comment bc I had my fist rat die from the infection and I’ve been on top of it since.
Lit Laurel id say respiratory kills more than tumors :(
Gravitythewolf I agree
Ooh very important, hope she sees this!
I really really love your hair in this video!

hehehe, I had a dream once about a gerbil of really similar coloring that I named Turkey, so it made me doubletake when you said you named him Goose.
Poor rats :(
Rebekah Rosella they are literally fine. people are making up crap and saying that she is an animal abuser. do your research hon.

Please, don’t feed your ratties spinach! Unfortunately, spinach can cause liver cancer in their later years.
this is false information. too much spinach can be bad, but a small amount is fine. my rats eat spinach and they've all been fine
Spinach is too high in oxalic acid and shouldn't be fed to rats regularly. As a treat it's okay, but is it worth the risk to feed regularly when there are much less risky similar options out there? (Parsley, coriander, mint, etc)
Thats actually a myth, spinach is just fine for them
@@lookherekook1258 A little won't harm them but over time, feeding regularly, it will
@Cami Annis o_o wow
Awwwww I love rats ! They are so cute ! Keep up the good job!!
Can you tell us how you set up your old mouse's tank and do mouse care videos? I know Gus died but I'm thinking about getting a mouse and I can't find a UA-camr that's giving good advice
Not hating, I just want to help out with a few tips :-)
Rats do better on a mixed dry food (I know nuggets seem like a good idea, but because of how intelligent they are, you’ll probably find yourself needing to change it often just to keep them interested). A massive rat grain mix supplemented daily with different grains, proteins, seeds, nuts, dried veg and fruit is great. Not sure if they ship to you, but ratrations is the most fantastic website for finding the right food items for rats!
Try to only feed your rats 15-20g of food each a day. Feeding them this much food daily is what makes them picky, not offering them variety! Variety is good :D
Try replacing the fleece on the bottom with around 4 inches of substrate such as carefresh. Fleece can cause ammonia build ups which can easily cause respiratory infections (and they can be fatal to rats). Also, rats love to dig so it’ll allow them to do that!
Feeding dry food in a bowl can make your rats lazy too (and this method is super food for an easy daily enrichment), try scattering the dry food into their substrate to support their natural behaviour of scavenging and giving them a bit more exercise!
Make sure you give them a calcium, copper etc rat supplement over their food once or twice a week (much like the supplements reptiles need to avoid MBD) to support their health.
Remove the shelving to again, encourage more natural enrichments. Rats are amazing climbers- and can climb vertically- so giving them shelving can make them a little lazy!
Last point: add a litter tray! Use a different substrate in it. Rats LOVE to keep clean, and because of this are so so easy to litter train. They pretty much litter train themselves once given a litter tray, just make sure you avoid clumping litter as they also have a habit of eating in their litter so it can cause impaction.
Enjoy your rats! They’re some of the most loyal animals you’ll ever experience owning :)
Mantis Mummy Carefresh isn’t the best bedding for rats. I know it’s advertised that way because it’s paper based, but it holds onto ammonia, as well. Carefresh has been through a scientific trial and is proven to cause respiratory issues and URI’s in rats. Dust-free paper pellets or Aspen bedding would be better alternatives than Carefresh. Anything by Kaytee is essentially horrible for rats. Other than that, great advice. Rats are super intelligent and most of my clients have had no issues litter training their rats from my Rattery lol
Hunter Taylor I actually use littlemax and megazorb as my bedding, however unaware if those are available for the US so suggested something else I’ve seen commonly used by breeders. Thanks for informing me about the negatives of using carefresh for rats!
Mantis Mummy No problem! I’m a U.S. Breeder myself and I know a lot of us avoid Carefresh for the reasons stated above. I totally understand, though.
Hunter Taylor I’m in the UK so unaware of anything you guys have in terms of bedding aside for what I’d seen on videos! And I never like to give advice on substrates without giving a brand name, as I’ve had bedding of the same kind from brands that has been dusty and awful with one brand but lovely from another :)
I can advise loads of great substrates though for people in the UK, as I often change my rats substrate up so they can experience different textures :)
She said she washes the bedding every single week though.
I had a snake that refused frozen food for a few months so i sucked it up and tried live, she was really small so i bought a live pinky. Well she ended up being scared of it and acted more defensive rather than curious and wanting to eat it. So i took the mouse away to prevent further stress to both animals. My sister and mom fell in love with the mouse and begged me to hand feed it each day so i did. I fed that little mouse every 2 hours fo about 2-3 weeks and even though im an amateur he actually survived. He was the sweetest little mouse and i even taught him tricks. Well about a month ago when he was 3 months old and well established i decided to rehome him because i didnt have the time for 30+ minute playtime each day and i felt bad having him in the same room with my snakes because the snakes always smelt food and they were freaking out. My parents got sick of how bad he smelled because males mark their territory so i found new owners who had other mice and where very good at caring for them. It was a very nice experience raising that little dude. I named him fish
Oh my gosh! My pet bunny is named fish
Savannah Redmond is your snake eating frozen now ?
All of these people are saying 'you don't have time blah blah blah', but you do an amazing job, and have inspired me to get some, I'm getting 3 boys, in about a week, and I already have a HUGE cage coming and all the supplies, and I also did tons of research and now I'm ready, so thx

I feel like a lot of these comments are a little inaccurate- she takes care of her rats quite well. The diet looks very good, and the cage is a very good size for 3 rats. Male and female rats CAN be housed together, as long as they are spayed and neutered, which they are going to/have been. She gives them mental stimulation, and the only thing I see is that they should be getting a bit more running around/free range time. Rats typically need at least 90 minutes (1 hr and 1/2) of free range time, but ideally it should be 2-4 hours. Other than that, she is a great rat owner who has done and applied her research.
The hate in the comments here knows no bounds. A lot of these people clearly do not have pets and do not know what they are talking about and are merely copying all the other people saying that she is "neglecting" and "not taking care of her animals." I am an owner of 2 female rats, and I feel I have a genuinely good understanding of animals. I have researched them my entire life. She is taking care of her animals just fine, and people need to stop verbally abusing her because she doesn't live up to your perfect standards. No one is perfect, but she is a phenomenal rat and animal owner. I am very sorry that these people have shown you hate because you are a great rat owner.
Girl you are so stunningly beautiful. And I dont mean that in a weird way. I'm married and a mom lol. But I watch your videos and sometimes you just need to tell someone the truth. You seem to have a really good heart to. Keep up up. I love your channel

You should do a video about your evacuation plan. Like what you would do with all your animals if you had a fire in your apartment or you had to emergency evacuate. (Knock on wood and glass that it would never happen) but I think it would be helpful to all the beginner "home zoo" people to explain how your would save your pets
per-lease, she hasnt even got a plan as to how she expects to keep 50 animals, many of which will live for over 10 or 20 years, once her youtube money dries up and she hasn't got any qualifications. she loves her pets i'm sure but seeing as how she has been buying them for bragging rights and then watching them die under her inexpert hand i'd say she's not really going to give her life for them.
@@likeastarbaby most animals lifespan are shortened and in some cases expanded in captivity. For your info. Alot of her animals have past becouse of age and something that was out of her control. Or have lived a few years before coming into her posestion. To save about 50 animals in case of fire is unrealistic ynless you wanted to die yourself. I know for a face if I tried to save my two cats during a fire I could not. All I can do is leave the doors open so they could escape themselves. I love them but animals have enough instinct to escape a fire when nesserary.
@@jayddow618 most animals lifespans are shortened in captivity?!? where the hell did you read that, almost all animals live much longer in captivity than in the wild. and many of the animals that she has had die have passed way before their expected lifespan in captivity.
She'd probably let them all die
Have enough carriers for every animal. Have a place you know for a fact you can bring them long term. Have jugs of declorated water. Have animal food that doesn't expire for a long time in storage. Have money put away for the foods that can't be stored ahead of time. Have a first aid kit with all the essentials. Have towels and blankets you can easily grab.
As someone who has many animals (over 40) this is my prep.
I once own a pet rat. I was suppose to dissect him in my bio class but biology was the last class of the day and in the end I simply couldn't do it. So I bought him home and Caleb live another year and a half.
aw
I'm f-ing crying from the cheese death video... I loved him so much!! I hope he reached the heaven ocean. R.I.P
