Interesting how he talks about the difficulty of writing that second record, which is common theme with young bands - but, man, Grassroots is incredible and stands the test of time. It's still my favorite 311 album in the catalogue.
Tim is the reason I’ve salivated over PRS guitars since the late 90’s. Two of the most righteous dudes on earth right here...met Tim in 2004, amazingly nice person and wonderful guitarist. 311 fan for life.
I've done some shows on the road with 311 over the years. Tim is an authentic dude, and one of the most humble touring musicians I have ever worked with. I love this segment!
I’m late to this party but saw the comments about the beeping fire alarm. In all honesty, some people have the ability to tune them out and forget about it till other people mention it. I’m so guilty of this myself. When reading the comments it reminded me of mine that I must have fixed at some point because it’s fine now and it’s working. So maybe this video helped save some lives by reminding others as well. 💚
I remember meeting miT backstage before a show in London. I waited all day and as he walked past I asked for a minute. We spoke about a few things (how to play particular tunes etc.) and I asked if they could play Let the Cards Fall that night. He said it wasn't on the list and apologized. Someone poked their head out the backdoor and said he had to come for an interview with some guitar magazine and he said he was busy talking with someone! I was a goofy teenager but he made so much time for me. Like 20 minutes or so. Then, to top it off, I shouted for Let the Cards Fall during the gig later, he heard me and strummed the first two chords for me. What. A. Dude. To this day, still makes me smile. Way to go Tim. What a great guy.
Paul Reed smith is the Larry David of guitar. Every time he speaks of his guitars there’s always passion in his voice. Paul Reed smith guitars have been my favorite for years. PRS and ESP, are my all time favorites. So much variety from both. PRS has the best finishes, hands down.
I wonder what the coolest-looking, rarest wood that’s ever been used in a PRS? I don’t know what makes wood rare or “most expensive”, but I can tell you what I LOVE the look of: BURL! Gosh it’s so incredible I could stare at it all day. I could spend hours in that private stash vault. I want to see everything!
I got my first PRS in '07, a 1998 10 top Custom 24 in Emerald Green...my dream guitar. A couple months later I got a '91 CE 24 and loved the sound and feel of that one more, which took a while to be honest and admit it to myself. I gifted that CE24 to my best friend about 10 years ago, and mourned it, but never regretted giving it to my bud, who deserved a great guitar. So since then, I looked to find another one, and about a year ago, another friend who worked at Micarelli Music in PA, called me and told me someone traded a '94 CE24 almost identical to the 91...thats my baby now. But these 2020 guitars...I bought 4...2 Mira's, a black satin Vela S2, and a Hollowbody II...I never expected the Indonesia and China guitars could be as good as the Koreans, but...well I'm looking at getting a standard S2 24 black satin with the new pups...love the pups and the satin finish. Thanks Paul, for making these guitars!
Awesome! Tim just seems like such a rad fella! Side note....Just a few requests of people it'd be awesome to hear you talk with who aren't even really PRS artists anymore but still.....Daniel Johns of Silverchair: Would love to hear the story about that iconic green PRS (also he's been posting pics on his Instagram recently playing his black McCarty with the Fugazi sticker on it), also Mike from Incubus and then Drew Goddard from Karnivool!!! Oh and Steven Wilson :) Also Ben Savage and Gabe Crisp from Whitechapel!!! If you are by chance taking requests haha
Can’t imagine Paul not being extremely irritated every time that detector beeped. And how can someone with that going off in their studio call themselves a professional?
Do another Tim Mahoney SE 🙏
Does prs still make the 1st model !? I can’t find one anywhere. Not even on reverb or eBay.

Grassroots is such a killer album.

Epic convo. Mahoney is the reason I got into PRS. Love how Paul says 'good luck with your band' at the end lol.
One of my biggest guitar influences!!!

Great choice of song to request!
311!!!
Who’s fire alarm needs the battery replaced?
Maybe Tim doesn't have a ladder tall enough to reach the cathedral ceiling?
i kept checking my hotel room that i'm in every time it went off lol
Ha ha! It took me a while to realize it wasn't mine!
Probably Tim's after spending all that time on a loud stage. Maybe his high end hearing is shot? :)
God Ive been looking around my house trying to identify it lmaooo

I love this series
miT is a legend.
Tim is the reason why I have owned around 10 PRS

Paul, we need CE Tim Mahoney in that gorgeous powder blue. If you make it, put me down for one!

A Tim Mahoney core would be really nice!

Cool story about that green PRS Daniel has, it was previously owned and gigged with by Page Hamilton of Helmet
Paul, if you make another Tim Mohoney SE, it will sell like hot cakes. Matt Ace and I will be first in line.
I can't take it, the fire alarm battery is driving me insane
Opies BBQ, Paul!
Goddamn fire alarm battery Tim!?!?!
Chirp!
