Hi guys, a quick suggestion - you can override UA-cam's placement of mid-roll video adverts. Please do so! An advert coming up right in the middle of the sound samples is a pain in the ass. Thanks!
Coming back to this 2 years later, this is still a great video and comparison. Heck, if Lambertone produced a bridge single coil that sounded exactly like the SE bridge, slapped their label one it, and priced it at $150 for the one pickup, it would sell out and be widely renown as the best bridge single coil for worship guitarist.
I’m about to throw down on my first strat style guitar and a friend that plays a lot and owns both of these recommended the SE. I’d planned on spending more that $1000 but not what the premium model cost. I honestly have to say I prefer the SE over the other. It seems to have a much brighter and bolder tone. My mind is most definitely made up, I will be buying an SE. Now the struggle is going to be WHAT COLOR……
I got the Core two year ago and I've been on Cloud Nine playing it ! Three to a side turners I believe have a better balance of tension than the standard six in line which I feel translates to better string to string natural acoustic output balance. I started out putting on a set of 10's, but they just felt too loose so I went to 11's with an .015 B to stay in tune better; the combination of 11 degree tilt on the headstock and the inertia block cast to allow the strings ball end to set in as far as possible, making those medium gauges feel a lot more supple. But my biggest preference between them is the really vintage sounding resonant difference with the core's very porous Alderwood- totally the same as the most treasured, best sounding vintage Fenders ever made !! That sold me the most because that virtue has been my gold standard since I discovered it's benefits back in mid 80's
The Core sounds a little "clearer" and the SE sounds a little warmer with a bit more natural breakup. The SE sounded better in the "more overdriven" stuff later in the video. Clean, I'd take the Core. Overdriven I'd take the SE. That said, I think they sound extremely, extremely similar. I would 100% buy the SE over the Core given the massive price difference and the "barely detectible" difference. I would expect the quality of the individual parts and the "feel" is probably pretty noticeably different when playing them in person.
I have to say I bought the Core. And when it arrived I almost returned it. It wasn't until I had it set up by my guitar tech (local master) lol i have absolutely loved it. The volume knob changes the pickups and the tone knobs also have an impressive response tonally. Was it worth the 2500 bucks to me yes because I bought it. It's amazing to play I also have an SE Single cut that is also amazing but i do notice the difference in tuning The Core Silver Sky is just bad ass. I do have a Mexican Strat with 60's Fender loaded pickguard They are two different animals.
Been told my SE shipment should be arriving next week I am third in the back order list. So hopefully there are three stone blues I have been waiting since March
The Ish Guitars UA-cam channel did a video on this. The core neck is a drop in fit to the SE body. And as far as I know, the SE Locking Tuners don't fit the silver sky SE without modification.
I almost don’t even care at this point. The SE guitars are phenomenal, the S2 and core lines are cool and all but a third of the price for a nickel and dime difference?… c’mon Also, God bless you guys. I appreciate the gear reviews for Jesus!
I think the SE has a higher output pickup. The Core is mean to sound like a vintage pickup which might cost more to get the tone perhaps but I defnietley felt some harshness on the SE. The thing is the sound difference is very subtle that you would care less unless you're recording. This goes for most guitars. Both the SE and core can sound shit when your settings are shit but the core would definetly feel better in the hands feel wise.
I purchased the Core Silver Sky. However after hearing both, I think it would have better better to buy 2 Silver Sky SE one with a maple neck and one with the rosewood over one Core Silver Sky
Its probably because the core has a recessed rout, which demands more CNC programming, whilst the SE is non recessed and is similar to what other PRSs are
Also if you're going to show these guitars and compare them you should do it while playing with a band. Just jam out with a backing track if you cant get a group together and solo it. That way you can hear all the little nuances that a guitar will make.

You guys keep mentioning this is one of the best guitars you can get under $1000, and I wonder what your thoughts are regarding the SE Custom 24 now? Is the SE Custom 24 still an all-around better purchase than the Silver Sky ? Or has the SE Silver Sky basically taken the throne as best PRS under $1000?
Erick, for what it's worth, I've been using a SE Custom 24 as my main guitar for almost 9 years and I'm 99% of the time playing Praise & Worship. They're extremely versatile instruments and they sound good through any amp, multi-effects unit, etc. I have not played a SE Silver Sky but if I play one, I may end up buying it because I love PRS's.
