Love the detailed notes and discussion on every one of your videos. Top notch. However, Mike, I'm having trouble with your scores. It seems you really like this, yet went with an 87. The first of the two Bunna's that you reviewed about a week ago got an 82, and you spent the entire video mocking it. Lol.
I only bring this up because I too got stuck in this 82-93 range for my wine reviews during many years of keeping track. I changed a couple of years ago and really started to use the full 50-100 range. Made it easier for me to find the stinkers and mediocre bottles vs the good ones when going back. Cheers.

Good question and a lot falls into this range. I’d like to say this, an 87 is a good and enjoyable whisky. fairly priced and something I would both drink and buy. Assuming it’s $200 or less .
To score above that, I’m gonna need to like and have some fun with. Some of that will be preference, of course.
Going below 87. That starts to get a bit trickier. But I can say if I am below and 84 I just don’t like the whisky and the only reason I’m drinking it is either to be courteous or review it.
For me. Scores say from the. 87-84 range it’s more about flavors and ABV. But it’s hard to nail down an exact formula. Some of it is just how it tastes to me on that day.
I will also know that I have never scored a whisky above a 95 on this channel. Still holding out for that Black Bowmore! 😉

I like Discovery 8 just slightly over this and Batch 4. BTW, there is no Dickel in 8 - It's 66% 12yr Heaven Hill (78 10 12), 7yr MGP 51 rye, 6yr MGP 95/5, and 11yr Ontario corn whiskey. Worth a try if you can find it.

That's high praise for 8 given how much people love 4 especially.

Great detailed discussion. Still enjoying that Discovery Batch 4. And then there is Chateau de Laubade Batch 1! The Holy Grail!! Cheers!

That first CDL was true gold only surpassed by monumental disappointment of the second.

@topshelfwhisky Fortunately I passed on Batch 2. But did grab a couple of JoeMag Cigar Blend batch 28's.
