There you go, Matt!! Never give up on sports and competition!! Bummer of a video, with Disco 11 not meeting expectations… but you know, it’s a relief your experience was the same as mine… thought I might have had a bad bottle. Hope you’re doing well.
You kill it every episode, Matt. You ROCK, you whiskey badass! You've inspired me to try out doing a channel myself. I don't have the nose or pallette that you do, but that's not the idea of the channel. Thanks for being you, sir. Looking forward to the next one!
I find with all of the Disco series that I have had it takes them more time to open up than other bottles I have experienced. Probably why the 10 did so well later on.
I visited BBC for my birthday a little while back and the tour guide said they hope to be in all 50 states by the end of the year…excited to have their stuff available in the Midwest finally!
Tuned in to learn about bourbon but ended up learning about asteroids missing us by 3.8 light years. I feel more informed about more rounded topics today. Thanks Matt.
I was very impressed with this. With that said, I think I liked their stuff on its own better. That 7ish year 36 rye bourbon they make is absolutely fantastic.
Sounds like a heck of battle the pins put up. I will have to finally have to open my Discovery 11 bottle to honor you not giving up. Keep up the fight on the lanes Matt.
I got Z Biotics with Matts ad and used it derby weekend and it worked flawlessly. 6 people used it and all 6 felt great the next day (minus the whiskey shits)
Cracked my bottle today in celebration of July 4th. My experience was disappointingly similar to yours... much brighter and less oaky than expected. Given that ~75% of this is (most likely) 13 year old Wild Turkey, I hoped it would have at least a passing resemblance to Russell's 13. Nope. Like you, I wondered if the other (younger) ~25% may have spoiled the party. Another possibility is that WT sold Bardstown some of their 13 year barrels that weren't good enough to be bottled as Russell's 13. In any case, if this bottle doesn't open up, I will regret the purchase. I'm hopeful that it will.
I agree 100% with your opinion. I have only had 1 pour so I want to let it open up a bit, but it did not hit what I was expecting. It was good, but for the price tag, there are better bottles out there that are much cheaper.
What do you think is better for the price? Generally asking because I was going to buy this one but not sure the price is worth it. Looking for different options.
Hey Matt,,, I'am not a pro at tasting multiple notes but I'am reallly liking the Disco #11 just picked a #8 last week have not tried it yet .... Thanks
I found this one needs a lot of air to blossom. When I first opened it, all I could taste was the spicy French oak from the 6% BBC wheat recipe. Was initially quite disappointed. Fast forward almost 6 months later after a series of improving small pours, it tastes much more like the old Turkey on which it is based. One of my favorite bottles now when craving a well aged
Yeah I definitely got this expecting a lot of oak based on the proportion of 13 year, but it’s still pretty good. I just prefer to be slapped around by oak.
As a Newb to Bardstown, I enjoyed this bottle, but not so much the price point. Felt, I could do a lot worse at $140 vs other regrettable bottles. Definitely got that DeBeque peach on the nose. DeBeque peaches are underrated vs Palisade, I stand by that. Feel you're spot on at 7.4, I wouldn't be shy about propping it up to 7.8 and it does drink on the brighter side cutting a cigar nicely. Would love this around the $80 range.
I heard great things about this bottle hunted it down and was disappointed on my first few “Glasses” of it. I’m close to half way through the bottle and it has finally opened up or I got used to it. lol but I like it now. Taste Kinda similar to the RR13 not exactly but close. I need to blind the 2
Definitely a good bottle, better than a 7.4. I don’t think it is as good as 4, but that is a hard one to beat. I get dark chocolate nibs on this one. I hope it gets better with time. It’s funny you mention pitch, I was waiting for higher pitched notes and all I got was the bass that you had hoped for. I guess it’s good we have different palates.
Okay this is a game we play and we take a sip when we hear a dad joke/rant…we didn’t make it far on this one. 0:20 0:36 0:48 1:36 4:39…. Lol I’ll Finnish later
For the people on the fence about a $140+ bottle of bourbon I would have to say don't judge it by a fresh pour. Pour one, drink it and after about a week the bottle really starts to open up and is amazing.
I think this is right. People keep comparing this to Russell’s 13. But Russell’s 13 is a 13 year old age stated bourbon that contains a lot of dramatically older barrels. This is a bourbon blend that contains some 13 year bourbon and a significant amount of younger bourbon. I like it, but I didn’t go in expecting something intensely oaky. It’s not. It’s fruity with an undercurrent of caramel, which is good in my book.
What the fuck does a birds nest smell like? When was the last time you had your honker in a robin’s nest? Is this some sort of weird Porter euphemism? Palisade peaches are fire, coming from a fellow Colorado kid. Thanks for the content.
Maybe your bottle is off a bit because every review I’ve seen have been very positive. I’m a huge fan of the origin series. From the white to green and black plus the fusion series are fantastic. Give it some time and revisit it and if it’s still just eeh maybe buy a new bottle and see if it is just this one that isn’t hitting you right. Enjoy!!
Yes. I don’t have a huge collection but I have a GTS (2023), a. Parker’s heritage 10 year rye and a little book ch 7 which I think are better. So it’s a top 5 whiskey for me. At least until I get to try some of the other top notch bottles. I don’t have any stagg Jrs or Russell’s 13 or any of the other btacs.
Dude I agree, I bought it and I was underwhelmed. I kept trying though but it’s not a killa. I think if someone only drinks whiskey that’s mediocre then taste the 11 then they would be mind blown. But I have too many other whiskeys that put this one on the bottom shelf.
I completely agree with your review notes! I was ready to be blown away and having read all the praise for the 13 year WT, I bought a backup before tasting this. I was left sorely disappointed after cracking the bottle. It’s good but not unique and not better than good. And way too expensive for the taste profile.
It's hard to bowl an 86 if you're not goofing around. Did you intentionally bowl a low score to make someone else feel better? That's the story I would stick to.

We find it funny that people geek out about BBC so much because it has a lot of older stock of WT, but the price is 2-3x the price of most older Russell's stock (RR10 comes to mind) by itself. The value just isn't there.
Where can you find a Russell's 13 for $70? I'll buy that all day long!!!!! Even the 9-10 year store picks are pushing $80 now if not more in certain areas!
Brother what Campari is just as bad as an offender when it comes to their price tags. At least BBC stays on the shelf, some areas you can find it for 110.
@holdenmullaney1081 The few times we've seen Disco on a shelf, they were for $120+. At that price we'd rather have an I.W. Harper 15 yr for roughly half the price or a Russell's 10 for a fourth of the price.

I really like it. I got a lot of bright red fruits that finished with toffee and caramel, like a caramel red apple.

I have become a big fan of Bardstown... but I am mainly talking the Origins Series. The White label is great, and the Black label BiB is fantastic.
Couldn't agree more. Bardstown is also releasing higher proof versions of their origin offerings. Can't wait.
Back in action like nothing ever happened! Cheers Matt🥃🥃🤘
Had a Bardstown flight in Louisville last weekend. 9,10,11. 9 and 11 were similar. I liked 10 the best.
I agree with my first pour. Will have to try again after it opens up for a while! Hope it gets better like everyone says it does!
Good to have you back Matt! Hope 1 Ounce Wednesday Videos will come back on a more regular basis too

Can we please hear more of this "sweetened birds nest" note you speak of? 😂
A city called Veyo in UT is famous for their pies. I once had a fantastic peach blueberry pie there. Disco 11 is that. Peach blueberry pie.
Oh man, Bass Mechanic was a blast from the past. Those were the days.

I did a Disco 7-11 blind and put 11 in last place 🤷🏻♂️
