Spider-man has seen a HUGE resurgence as of late! And after Homecoming, Spiderman PS4, and with Far From Home coming fast, a LOT of people have asked whether or not our friendly neighborhood web-head is actually a ninja at his core. I didn't believe it, but boy was I wrong...

Heck, even his web shooters go back to classic ninja stuff: making his own weapons with what he’s got. He’s not exactly rich, so he’s got gadgets he can make on his usual salary. Ninjas had to make weapons outta scraps and farm tools.
THIIIIIIIS!!!!!!
And, even with their limited resources, ninjas were all over the latest technology, just like Spider-man.
Heck, his web fluid is made with his chemistry set and it dissolves. Meaning he leaves little evidence
Do I need to say he wears blue? 🎵 Real ninjas wear blue! 🎵
That's true, all of Spider-man's tech is jerry-rigged from whatever he could get his hands on.
Even Peter's inability to stop talking is theoretically a distraction technique.
I never really thought of that. Super interesting!
@@GaijinGoombah Its also implied in multiple universes, including the main one, and outright stated in the Ultimate universe that Peter is quipping to mentally kill time, as he just thinks so fast that he would get bored otherwise, and if he ever stops quipping or goes silent its because he is dedicating all of his brain to find the most brutal and painful way to take you out. If he goes silent, then prepare to spend the next 2 years healing your broken body... at the very least!
I remember in Ultimate Spider-Man he complained for a moment in one episode how everybody else got super cool new weapons, but the blacksmith went "You've already got your greatest weapon, your wit."
@@Odinfrost wait what
Slaveofamv that is implied to be a theory held in-universe by his foes, it seems, as he once terrified a minor D-list team (who were normally among She-Hulk’s roster) by remaining perfectly silent while facing them and intimidating them into surrender in the process by failing to react to their taunting.
When the police thanked Spidey for helping capture them, he replied in a barely audible tone - his silence was because he had been struck by a case of laryngitis and couldn’t talk above a whisper!
Gaijin, don't forget. Peter was trained in martial arts in 616 canon. The style called (in Marvel) "The Way of the Spider" to specialize in his powers.
Interesting!
Was that ever utilized? It would be dope to see him learn it in the movies!
@@MrBwinfrey yeah. in the lead up to spider-island, peter loses his spider-sense and he trains to get to the point of being almost just as affective
@@UgandanPrinc3 yup, trained by none other than Shang Chi, master of kung Fu.
Not just trained, he helped develop the style, combining martial arts training, and studying the way spiders move and hunt.
I’ve seen some comments saying that Spidey’s costume isn’t very ninja like, which to be fair is true that it isn’t accurate to traditional garbs. But I have a plausible rebuttal: the Japanese Tiger Beetle. The tiger beetle has bright orange and blue patterns. Even though the coloration is very loud, it still hides the beetles from their would be predators(primarily birds). The reason is that the combination of colors and patterns makes it hard for the predators to discern it from the ground at far distances. This strategy isn’t limited to tiger beetles either. Waldo wears freakin red and white stripes yet we still have trouble finding him in his “Where’s Waldo?” books.
And with spiderman being in newyork where their signed would and will sometimes flash RED AND BLUE.
Spiderman is the ninja of newyork.
Fair point, and, yeah, I haven't thought about it that way before.
(:
Spidey had more than the red and blue outfit. He sometimes goes about in a black costume (originally Venom) but he has a cloth version of it as well. Also Miles Morales's costume is also black, and he has the ability to stun and turn invisible too.
It is like the naval dazzle cammo Of boats and planes of world war one and two
The beetle that your referring to is a great example of what Camouflage actually is. It breaks apart the shape hense making it harder to see.Spider-Man's bright colours work well. Same as the "pink panther"a jeep during WW2 that was bright pink, yet look at photos of it in the desert and it's practically invisible
Wow, the best accidental ninja right here. Hooray for delving into the real life equivalents to Spider Sense, clinging to walls and "web" slinging.
Accidental Ninjutsu is the best kind of Ninja; & it proves that being a sneaky fighter is probably a dang good idea
Stan lee knew what he was doing....him and his partnert....i am a shame of myselft i always forget his name.
Raul Rojas Steve Ditko
@@raulrojas9253 smh
By that point you can Spidey call a non-lethal spy
It’s obvious that Spider-Man is a ninja
I mean look at his sneak boi moves during stealth missions
Total ninja boi
He isn't in straight sense (not like batman), but he in fact do use many similar tactic.. greatest coincidental ninja fit description well.
...yes I watched the video
Plus, something you didn't address, Spidey gets under people's skin via his wit! And ninjas did use emotion to help win a fight.
Spider-man's style seems to be the opposite of Batman's style of using fear to fight Spider-man belittles his opponents or makes his opponents drop their guard
Actually, I believe in the comics, he says that he constantly cracks wise to ease his own tension. To be fair, however, ninjas use hand gestures for the exact same reason.
@@KigaiOkasu Can it be both?
@@KigaiOkasu They use many things. For example knowing that they oponent is superstitious they could recite spells to convince oponent that they can use magic or are demons, etc.
@@calvinmcneil9824 I'd argue that they're variations on a similar technique. In both cases, they use tactics that cause their opponents to react in foolish ways - Batman through fear, Spider-Man through irritation or anger. Sun Tzu would be proud of both. He espoused the virtues of annoying or unnerving your opponents into making a mistake.
That transition to the sponsored bit was stealthy, seamless, undetectable until it was too late.
I salute you.

@@theninjaassassin4468 Net Ninjas could actually be the name of a pretty cool series, mind if I use that for a short story in my class?
@@someoneawesome8717 Net ninja can be a fun class on cyberpunk theme role play game...
I think you barely scratched the surface of Spider-man's ninja-likeness.
Many people have mentioned his quipping to be emotional manipulation, often annoying enemies into making mistakes.
Spider-man makes his own gadgets and suits from whatever he can scavenge. He's a dumpster diver and makes web fluid in his science class in the MCU.
Spider-man is highly adaptive. He is always making new suits to combat any enemy's new powers. He learns about his enemies and designs ways to take them down. Most notably is rubberized suits and electric webbing to deal with Electro.
While his suit isn't exactly subtle, it's not exactly useless. New York is a visually noisy city with cars and Time Square and everything. So even though Spider-man's very flashy, it'd probably still be hard to spot him sitting on a billboard or something unless you were actively looking for him. Especially since I bet there are several billboards that already feature Spider-man on them.
And even then, he has many other suits including some far subtler ones. He has had several black suits, many of which were developed for stealth. Despite maybe the glow of the eyes those suits blend into the black, light polluted New York sky.
And another one that's very simple, but does seem to be a big detail, is that spider-man is one of the few Marvel superheroes who still has a tried and true secret identity. Despite how flashy he is, no one except a very small group of people know who he is. Even several of the superheroes don't know him. In a world where some superheroes advertise themselves on live television as billionaires, super-scientists, or both and where others don't even bother to go by an alter-ego or to hide their face, characters like Daredevil and Spider-man are increasingly rare in Marvel. Especially to be a character as public as spider-man and still maintain anonymity. (We're also just going to ignore that one time during the Civil War event here).
IOUT i hate when people do this
I'm just gonna say this right now how much y'all are willing to bet that the hero's have a betting pool on who spider man really is

Hell,in the game its unique ability is to make enemies alert each other slower/not be able to do so
I did not know. You win... I guess.
Noir especially since he tends to use firearms, wears dark clothes, and isn't as strong as normal Spiderman so he relies on stealth tactics a lot more.

When cyber- based hero was mentioned my first thought was " We do, he runs around in underwear."
I swear this video came out the same time my teacher said I can dress up as Spider-Man for propaganda since our school is showing Spider-Man into the Spider Verse which is really cool since I'm a BIG Spidey fan 🤗

Another reason why Spider-Man is my favorite super hero
He's only part ninja.

I... I can't argue that.
He does wear blue though
@@Rabbit-the-One \(^o^)/
(:
@@pj_spirit Only in part. That is why, I called him part-ninja.
:p
Well, spiderman 2099 does
Fun fact, Peter having arachnid hairs to allow him to climb is only in the Raimi films, in the comics he can manipulate atomic forces to make any part of his body adhesive. He can use it to stick objects to himself anywhere, so basically his entire body is a storage space. He can also use it to stick his mask to his face so he can't be unmasked. A clone of him even once weaponised it in a really gruesome way.
Also, the Spider Sense is f*cking broken, it's borderline precognition. It can detect lies, helps him identify safe places to stick webs to swing and warns him against literally anything he would personally deem as danger, including someone about to discover his secret identity. It even allows him to cheat at poker, which sadly means he never gets invited to avengers poker night. Sadly, the spider sense doesn't work on people he trusts or on venom or his offspring (because they have his exact powers from when he wore the Venom symbiote)
This video is perfect! I have been thinking that Spider-Man was a ninja, and helped me out so much! But I do wish to give you a bit of a request/challenge: is Sly Cooper a ninja?
Then again, flirtation is a form of emotional manipulation and we all know how much ninja do that.
Ehh, more thief then ninja.
@@keelanbarron928 So like Ishikawa Goemon then? He can be both.

10:00 Ha Ha Ha… Very smooth, a nearly seamless advertisement transition.
When you mentioned tactics and how he usually engages from above, I was a bit disappointed you didn't mention/explicitly say that he favours stealth. He isn't hanging up just because he crawls on things and happens to be above, he the same ninja method intentionally, both for the element of surprise in an attack or just to observe.
Another interesting aspect is his clothing. Sure, it doesn't blend in... until you realise he lives in NY. I'll leave that point at that.
Then you have to add his scariness. No, I am not kidding. His motif is a spider aka universal nightmare material. But imagine you're criminal. You're doing your thing, then seemingly out of thin air, you hear a voice from above, or you just get hit by some sticky thing, and you're hanging upside down, or you finally notice this thing watching you when you thought you were safe. And his costume giving 100% coverage dehumanises him just enough for a touch of unsettling.
Last, but not least, there is a deliberate creative reason why the ninja stuff (specially the stealth, the surprise attacks, the wall crawling, the scare tactics here and there) exists. Stan Lee's early work took a lot of inspiration, to put it nicely, from popular horror and mystery stories popular back then. NerdSync has a video on that, worth the watch, so I won't be repeating the arguments here. He wasn't intentionally trying to write horror, maybe mystery, but he was inspired by it. His intention was to create something different from other heroy heroes, with just that touch of eerie and mystery, somewhat ninjas go for. Stan also liked to modernise and use then popular fresh ideas (hence all the science, technology, radiation and mutation themes). Ninjas seek to keep up with modern technology/knowledge. It is a semi-coincidence, stan went for similar things ninja go, and then unsurprisingly threaded a similar path to make spidey.
My spidy boi is best ninja!
Could you do a "Which Ninja" episode on Ninjago? I know the show is mostly made for kids but it's probably the most mainstream Ninja show in the West after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I can already tell that the Ninjago Ninja are not the most accurate, but an in-depth analysis to see how accurate they are would be cool. Plus, at least one of those Ninjago Ninja dresses in blue. ;-)
He has weapons that aren't really lethal, and the weapons distract and stun opponents and are easy to make. Also, in some adaptations Spider-Man uses his surroundings for weapons, is extremely mobile, and uses the element of surprise. Lastly, as one of the top comments said, *REAL NINJAS WEAR BLUE* -and red-
-red is extremely easy to see-
I'm sure there's an actual Ninja Spider-Man somewhere in the Marvel Multiverse.
Their might be but in Marvel ultimate spider man their was an episode were spiddy is wearing a ninja outfit
Yep. Mangaverse Spider-Man.
And a return in spider-geddon.
I saw a Ninja Spider Man in Spider Man Unlimited (Mobile Game)
There's Ninja Spider-Man. And Mangaverse Spider-Man.
One thing I wanna add is how Spidy managed to convice a group of thungs one time that his powers were that he could control spiders. That's some primo mind games right there! Ninjas would have rumors of them being able to do supernatural feats, which they totally used to their advantage!
shh, i'm summoning the spiders. wha? ant-man can control ants, so what makes you think i can't summon spiders.
Spider-man was definately NOT meant to be a ninja, but he does make a damn fine one. I mean you guys haven't even mentioned all the enemy base infiltrating (usually through vents or sewers) and stealth take-downs he does and the fact that all his gadgets are homemade like farmer born ninjas.
Huh. I've had that thought of Spidey being a bit ninja-like, but I've never seen anyone break it down like that. Even though he has no formal training outside of Shang-Chi helping him develop his own martial-arts style based off his powers, his spider powers and gadgets really do make him a good accidental ninja. And you even brought up the Mangaverse, which was cool.
Also something to note, in the comics Peter has explained a few times that the distinct shape of the eyes on his mask are to frighten his opponents, and the mirrored surface of the lenses hides the direction he is looking.
I’m really enjoying series guys keep it up. Actually I have one suggestion
Can you do Joker from Persona 5 is this phantom thief a ninja I’ve been wondering about this for a while and I want to see if you are up for a challenge on this character
Please this I want to see this.
I second this; I’ve just got back into the game and boy pretty much hits almost every mark of a ninja: does his best to hide his identity; create a variety of tools to aid in combat as well as stealth; heavy focus on intel-gathering and sneaking around unseen; capable of manipulating the emotions and behavior of those around him in conversation, etc. That’s just off the top of my head, but I agree he’d make a good candidate.
Is it also possible to also show the contrast between the P5 Hero and Akechi if you can? I want to see why the P5 Hero is a better ninja than Akechi ever could.
James Grinsen yeah Joker basically is a modern day ninja. He doesn't use people though. He befriends them to gain new information to help improve his skills. That's the point of his Confidants
@@littenfire3563 not quite though true of his confidants and allies the same can't be said of the many, many shadows who he does manipulate
I love Spidey! Your video makes perfect sense and I love the idea of him being a ninja!
Do solid snake from metal gear solid next
Better yet, all the Snakes like Big Boss, Venom Snake, and Solid Snake. Maybe Raiden too.
6:55-7:27 Before Peter Parker in the Spider-Man PS4 game, a Spider-Man that was seen first performing a tech Shadow Clone technique was actually Miguel O'Hara, The Spider-Man of the year 2099. His Superhuman Speed allows O'Hara to move so fast that he can leave behind a body double for enemies to attack.
didn't we get to see a version of that in edge of time, where he turns invisible and leave a holographic clone of himself
I’m totally glad that my favorite superhero is truly a ninja worthy of GG’s seal of approval.✌🏽
It's awesome that you inserted the NordVPN ad as your own 'personal net-ninjas'! Haha
I F@CKING KNEW IT!!!
SPIDER-MAN IS A REAL NINJA !!
HELL YEAH!!
THANK YOU Mr GAIJIN GUMBA!!
There is a rime and reason for Spider-Man suit design, and you can find it his notebook and in Dr. O lab. The big contrast in the design is for gaining a slow reaction from his enemies. His suit is so much ninja tactical thought out, that I would say it’s better than the noon-blue suit, when his surroundings is well lited NY.
Peter can classify as a ninja, but the moments in which he fights head on makes him less of one. He more of a tactician, who is capable of imitating a ninja.
The murderous intent test thing is something I would consider real. Just like how a dog senses emotion, a very aware human can sense emotions as well.
Though it does have one limitation, if you could call it that. If the person has had severe emotional trauma, you will *only* get the sense that something is "off" - and nothing else specific. (This is the most obvious one, which means some people will notice that "wrongness" in someone without knowing it, sometimes causing them to shun someone who is otherwise very kind.)
(Also, for obvious reasons, murderous intent is also pretty apparent compared to other emotions.)
It's not just "belief," either. There's a very scientific explanation that I came up with after not exactly being satisfied with the spiritual energy explanation. (I do believe in the spirit, and spiritual things, but something didn't sit right for me for that to be the only explanation.)
The brainwaves of a person change according to their emotion. The brain signals are electrical in nature. Therefore, an electromagnetic field is produced, which extends from the body at a limited range. That field will interact and change other fields that it interacts with - distortions that are translated to altered electrical signals in the other person's brain.
Therefore, your brain gets subtle signals that change according to emotion.
(Though some existing electromagnetic fields probably disrupt this ability - I've never really had it work when I was near my laptop.)

Spider-man has his own martial art called Way of the Spider. He developed it Shang-chi during the Spider Island plot as a culmination of all his fight experiences starting as far back as before he got his powers, allowing him to make full use of all his skills and abilities as well as combat any type of opponent, and it was developed during a time when his Spider sense was rendered ineffective.
And he used it?
@@MrBwinfrey it's his mainstay fighting style, used to even greater effect when his Spider sense returned.
Dude look into Daredevil and you'll see that Spidey isn't the best accidental ninja Marvel wrote.
Well, Daredevil isn't exactly accidentally a ninja. Sure, he may not have been originally intended to be one, but the Hand and being a ninja has been a long ingrained part of his origin story for years now.
Isn't one of the running gags of Daredevil how bad he is at keeping his identity a secret?

I've always thought of spiders and scorpions as ninja and samurai respectively. Where spiders are more stealthy and relying on traps and tools, scorpions are armed to the teeth and more heavily armoured. Would be kinda cool to see a similar theme explored in the comic with Spidey's villain: Scorpion.

Something not noted is his disguise. In the comic, there's an arc called "identity crisis" were spidey take on four different identity to cleanse is name. One of them able to hide him completely in the shadow. And at one point he use the division technique to make two criminal believe there was four heroes when there was only one.

You know everything huh?
....nope. XD
Oh it gets even deeper, to quote the spider verse movie "watch the hands not the mouth"
one the reasons why Spider-Man talks so much is because he is deploying a classic ninja psychological move of emotional manipulation. Even his bright and colorful costume is meant to distract his enemies from harming civilians.

Even Peters secret Identity is kind of ninja. Who expects the nerdy clumsy stuttering Peter Parker (at least in som incanations) to be the wisecracking webslinging superhero. Heck, the fact that he sells photos of spiderman to Jameson basicly makes him the least likely candidate to be Spiderman. What better cover than being the guy trying to uncover Soidermans mystery?
@Gajin Goombah Media Have you considered doing a Which Ninja on Master Wu from Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitsu?
I only just thought of this while rewatching ATLA, but Zuko would make for an interesting ninja analysis. When he first appears as the Blue Spirit, he goes the entire time without speaking or without bending, thus keeping even his nationality a mystery. While using the Blue Spirit persona, Zuko becomes a near master of sneak attacks, subterfuge, infiltration, and the like. Not only that, but later in the season, while trying to capture Aang in the Northern Water Tribe, Zuko wore white ninja-like attire to blend in with the environment, covered his face with the exception of his very distinguishing eye scar but it's kind of hard to hide something like that since he needs to see. Also, after losing the original Blue Spirit mask, Zuko is able to find an exact duplicate in another country, which means he was using a fairly common mask to disguise himself, which helps hide his identity further, and would also easily allow for misdirection. On top of that, when tying up Aang, he used the ninja art of restraints, tying Aang's arms torso and legs similar to the diagrams you've shown before. Even in season 2 when he's living on the run, one could argue that Zuko is using Ninjutsu arts to pass for an Earth Kingdom refugee, even fighting his anger and urge to fight in order to keep his fire bending a secret when Jet attacks him. Anyone who didn't know he could bend would probably assume he's a regular non-bending Earth Kingdom citizen.
Apparently being bitten by a radioactive spider gives u martial arts abilities too. Peter was simply a science nerd. He should have just been a nerd who can scale walls. Same with Sakura in Street Fighter. She mimics Ryu's moves with no formal training (Dan tried to train her but that doesn't count). Peter in venom suit makes him look like a ninja tho.
Call Girl from the fractured but whole is that cyber hero dude.
Edit: She also hangs out on rooftops using the tenuki technique, uses selfie sticks as escrima sticks, and has massive Intel gathering potential! You need to do a video on Wendy please!
This was a fun one. Big Spider-Man fan here.
However, there is a genuine ninja superhero in Marvels New York, who also started as an "accidental" ninja but was later retconned to be a true one (or at least he was trained as one): Matt Murdock, aka. Daredevil.
He ought to get his own episode one day. Just throwing it out there as a suggestion :)
There are four forms of "blindsight" that humans can learn that I think could be used to explain the Saki test: tremorsense, echolocation, heightened hearing, or facial vision, which is a technique that some blind people use to study air currents and pressure zones.
This is an amazing video, very informative, while still being entertaining...
But you forgot one very crucial detail...
You forgot the hyphen between "Spider" and "Man" in the title.
I'd like to shoutout that segue to today's sponsor; it raises a DAMN GOOD point and didn't feel too out of place.
Well done!
I'd also like to see some concepts for such a hero. But that's just the computer nerd in me.
Here's a really cool recommendation: *Transformers Soundwave* (almost every incarnation). He does infiltration, communication, hacking, uses animals, he's blue, he can camouflage even by TF standarts. I also recommend looking up G1 Mirage, G1 Nightbird and Animated Prowl.
Your'e combining my two favrite things all we need is sci-fi and medivial time
"The fact that he doesn't have formal training the only thing holding his score" AAAAAND then he gets training from Iron Fist after he loses his spider-sense in one of the comics!
