    Why horizontal on the membrane? I always hear from the 'experts' that you need to mount them vertically because of the air and drying.

    As someone who is currently looking into getting a garden room I have been doing lots of research and have some questions and concerns.
    Why don’t you use osb sheathing on the outside of the studwork wall - this is common practice?
    Why have you built the walls without putting an 18 mm plywood floor down first?
    How do you fix the 70mm insulation, it looks very loose? Is it pushed up against the membrane or is there a gap?
    Where do you run the wires?
    Pushing the insulation in the roof up against the underside of the roof sheeting means there is no way for moisture to escape, is this some sort of hybrid system? It’s not a normal cold, or warm roof method.
    Normally a combination of vertical as well as horizontal battens are used to support cladding. This allows for ventilation (so that wet timber can dry out) and allows any water droplets to run down the breathable membrane.

    Could you explain how you fit 100mm insulation between 2x4 studs which are 89mm in depth? I'm confused.

      4" = 101mm 👍

      Most of the 4” timbers in uk will only have 95mm depth, I have fitted 90mm insulation, otherwise 100mm will push it out

    Hi Alistair,
    If you listen to the video again you will hear me say that 100mm celotex is fitted in between the joists. 70mm of celotex is fitted in between the studs. Sorry for any confusion.
    Kind regards

      Yes, there’s not enough space for 100mm.

    I'm interested in the fact i've watched about 12 videos of these cabins being built. About 70% used OSB or ply on the stud work OUTSIDE. So they put the stud work up and then put a board around the outside THEN put the membrane on then the cedar...

    • @rossfarrell8649

      Yip. although boards inside is structurally stronger, when it's outside it's easier to clad. Personally I'd do both

    Great work. A lot of companies use rubber roofs. What are your thoughts on that, and how high is the ceiling on the lowest point? Do you ever use firring strips for a flat ceiling?

    • @simondaniels1580
      @simondaniels1580  7 років тому

      Hi,
      In answer to your question, we tend not to put ferring pieces to flatten the ceiling as this will lower the head room.
      Hope that helps.
      Kind regards

    Hey guys. What's the best product out there to treat the red cedar. I am about to use cedar pinning boards on fence panels between metal framing but want to coat all the boards prior to fitting them. Need a clear product because the colour variants is unreal and want to keep that look.
    Many thanks.
    Ian.

      Hi, I used Osmo Oil 420 clear that gives UV protection. Cedar goes grey if you don't UV protect. I missed a few little areas on my build and has gone greyish after 12 months.

    Do you have to keep a 1m gap between the boundaries the structure is greater than 15msq?

    • @gdfggggg
      @gdfggggg 7 років тому

      beatsandwarts no, enough to get around for maintaining

    • @familyadventuredays1203

      No gap needed at all. You can build up to 2.5m anywhere in the garden and if it's 2.5m AWAY from the fence boundary you can build up to 4M depending on the type of roof used.

      As we are a bespoke company we build it from scratch. The only way we could potentially do this for you would be to have a certain size shipped over to you which we could construct.

    I'm pretty sure there is supposed to be a gap between the horizontal battens and the membrane.

    • @Palo-jm7xc
      @Palo-jm7xc 4 роки тому +4

      There is. If cladding vertically you need to fix vertical battens and then the horizontal cross battens to create an air gap. The the vertical cladding can then be fixed to the cross battens.
      I've seen soooo many "professional" company's get this wrong while advertising on UA-cam, it's quite sad really as its not even difficult to do.
