Toyota's New Sienna Van is the first minivan in the US to move exclusively to hybrid power. Fuel economy is now rated at 36 City / 36 Hwy / 36 Combined. What do you think about it?
We've got a platinum AWD model on order. The mileage and Toyota's hybrid experience were the biggest factors in our decision. We tend to keep our cars over 10 years and gas prices will likely climb... high mileage will be necessary.
Great video. I believe the Sienna Platinum is the best overall vehicle being sold right now in America. Room, comfort, reliability, efficiency, ease of use, and overall driver satisfaction are where the Sienna platinum shines! :o)
Toyota added more Safety to the New Sienna. One new addition is the 2nd row seat side bolster air bag. However, because of that additional air bag in each 2nd row seat, they are no longer removable. Also, the second row captains chairs with ottomans are only available on the FWD vans at this time.
Probably the best and most comprehensive review I’ve seen of the Sienna to date. I own the 2011 Sienna Limited and one area I’m disappointed in is the placement of the rear wiper blade on the bottom of the window. In the 2011 it is tucked up under the rear spoiler which protects it from the winter ice and snow. I’m not overly impressed with the bridge that extends from the centre console to the dash. I preferred the openness of my 2011 Sienna. I also prefer my adjustable arm rests on the front driver and passenger seats rather than the fixed ones on the centre console. I also believe that to get the second row leg rests means that AWD isn’t available. If so ... that is disappointing. I love the fact that the new Sienna is Hybrid and of course all the safety sense features. I noticed yesterday several introductory videos of the new Kia Carnival. I’ve been a Toyota buyer now for 25 years which includes 2 Siennas, but I have to be honest ... the Carnival might be giving the Sienna a run for its money. Unfortunately the Carnival isn’t offering a Hybrid option that I’m aware of... I would love to see you do an in-depth review of the 2022 Kia Carnival when it’s available. It’s going to be a tough choice for me this year. Thanks again for a great, in-depth review. I’ll be sure to check out some others videos of the Sienna and other vehicles.
Hey thanks for the compliment and in-depth analysis of differences on the new Sienna. You’re very knowledgeable (want to come film with us?) We’re excited to see the new Kia van as well and will definitely compare the two as soon as we can. Thanks for watching
I had the same concern with the rear wiper, my current suv has the wiper located on the bottom, it really takes a beating from ice and snow. I am looking at the Kia Carnival, so after watching this video I have made my decision. The Carnival, for me, is a much better choice and bang for the buck. You would think for over 50 grand they could have at least made the second row with power seats.
Great review. I bought this for my wife in November. We have the platinum and love it. It is the quietest vehicle we've owned and so far with the AWD we are observing between 34-36 average MPG. Easily double what we were getting from our last sienna and odyssey FWD vehicles. The AWD got us through 4-6 inches of snow no problem.
@Davis Singltuin Hi Davis, I paid 57,000 out the door. That was MSRP plus taxes and tags. They were not budging on price. That is the platinum AWD with pretty much every option. 1500w inverter, rear dvd, mats, etc...

Take a look at 5:27 it shows the rear seats folded. However, with the second row captain's chairs as this Sienna has, they do not fold flat because of the integrated airbags. Thanks for watching!
I just measured one and cargo floor length that is usable is 69" (2nd row seats all the way forward). It is 94" between the 2nd row seats (10" wide or so). The second row seats do not flip down or stow, so 69" is all you get. It is possible to remove the second row seats but it is not recommended, is a big job, and will display an airbag error message. Great review! One of the things I always liked about mini vans was their versatility. For people and cargo hauling, you just couldn't beat a mini van. But with the 2021 Sienna, the middle row seats are no longer designed to be removed. That really hurts being able to haul cargo, like full sheets of plywood, etc. Obviously, Toyota has decided to focus on the family as it's primary customer. I was seriously thinking about buying a new Sienna and turning it into a little camper. The fuel economy of the hybrid made economic traveling very appealing. But not being able to remove the middle row seats is a deal breaker for me.

I was surprised to learn that the new Sienna comes with ventilated rear brakes. Why is this? Do other minivans do? are they expecting big break loads? Being a hybrid I would expect most of the brake load to be done by the electric motors.
My guess is that being a minivan they expect it to be loaded with family and gear and they felt vented rotors would be better suited for safety braking than soils rotors. Great observation. Thanks for watching
Upper trims of the new Sienna were supposed to get a vacuum and refrigerator but, due to supplier issues, earlier production-run cars like our tester do not get either of these. Not to mention the cup holders in the rear of the Sienna you can shake the whole wall. Very cheap feeling in the rear.
The cargo floor from the rear sill plate to the front row is 95.5" and floor width at the wheelhouses is 50" so YES a 4x8 sheet pf plywood would fit....several actually since it has a max payload of 1380 #.
@@TwoGuysandaRide - that is fantastic! I was just running some depreciation calculators and thinking maybe buy a used one next year at this time. Research shows that Sienna’s lose 20% of value the first year and with a 10 year warranty on the battery it’s worth it IMO to wait and buy used.
According to many other reviews, the middle row seats are not removable and I think this review says there's 59" from tailgate to back of middle seats. So, the interior is wide enough, but not long enough.
In your review your gave the floor length for all three seats to the hatch. I am assuming the hatch was closed. I have questions on how you made 2 of the measurements. 1. The distance to the front seat I assume was between the two middle seats, 95.5". Am I correct? 2. The measurement from behind the second row 57.5". Were the middle seat cushions flipped up and were the seats fully forward? If not how were they positioned? Thank you
1. Yes the distance to the front seat was measured between the two middle seats. That dimension however is still subject to change depending on how far forward or back the front row occupants have their seats positioned. 2. The measurement behind the second row was from the rear of the middle seat lower cushion to the rear sill of the vehicle. Again those dimensions are subject to change depending on where the second row occupants have their seats positioned. Also, no the hatch was not closed. As stated in the review, we were measuring the "floor" length to the front and middle row seats. Our numbers will vary from yours and will vary from the mfg's as we had our seats positioned where we were comfortable. Manufacturers can game these numbers a little, so take these specs with a grain of salt (or three). To verify how much room a car actually has (or doesn't), first adjust the front seat so you're comfortable, then check the rear seat. Also, cargo volume is usually measured all the way to the ceiling, so you can't use it all and still see out the back window. For this reason, 16 cu. ft. of cargo volume in a van isn't as usable as a 16 cu ft trunk in a sedan. In our dimensions we give you the rear hatch/trunk opening dimensions and then provide the total cubic feet capacity provided by the mfg. Bottom line, all of the dimensions provided by the mfg and us are only a baseline guide. Most people will never fully utilize the entire cargo are but if you do then it would be wise to take your own measurements when comparing new vehicles. Hope this has helped. Thanks for the great question and thanks for watching!
57.5" floor length to the second row is measured with the second row seats adjusted forward as if a child was sitting in them. Thank you for this. Great job guys. I love minivan's, I know it's not popular to say, but they are great cars. So much room, great to haul people and cargo. Also they have great tech. I especially love this new Sienna. Glad they redesigned this vehicle. What I really am happy is all trims are hybrid. Toyota especially is going all in with hybrid/electric vehicles while most are slowly getting around to it, some better then others. I don't like a few things with this car. First, the kick opener on the rear or sliding doors is a horrible idea. If you got a handful of baby or groceries doing the hokey pokey on a patch of ice seems like a bad idea. Toyota needs to steal Kia's stand next to the rear door for 3 seconds and it opens up automatically. Next is middle rows not being able to be removed, people buy minivan's for many reasons and some for multiple reasons. Last, and this is to all car manufacturers not just Toyota or just minivan's but all cars should have a spare tire. Not having one is like riding down the road without insurance. You don't need it, until you need it.
Yes admitting that you like a minivan is a rarity. Most people seem to run from them but we agree, all in all it’s a great vehicle. Awesome suggestions on the kick to open doors! We hadn’t thought of an ice patch and yes, you should be able to remove the second row seats. Thanks for the great feedback and thanks for watching!
Like the mini the power supply etc, rest of them except the reclining and adaptive cruise are old features my 2011 has those features. Some what noisy,
Its sad you cant remove the second row seats without voiding the warranty because of the airbags. The campers and cargo haulers wont like this option either. Also because of this, the new sienna has the lowest amount of cargo space for all vans .

2. The measurement from behind the second row 57.5". Were the middle seat cushions flipped up and were the seats fully forward? If not how were they positioned?

For this reason, 16 cu. ft. of cargo volume in a van isn't as usable as a 16 cu ft trunk in a sedan. We list the fuel mileage both in the description and in the video. Thanks for watching
Sorry, I meant your observed results driving it rather than the manufacturer or epa estimate. Thanks for the reply.
@@basicuser54 unfortunately we only drove the vehicle maybe 25 miles. It sat and idled for about an hour so that why we don’t report on observed fuel mileage. If we had the vehicle for longer than a few hours we could more accurately report that information. Thanks for the question
I sure hope this vehicle is not underpowered once I load all of my junk in the cabin full of riders. Super fantastic review.
It’s not a speed demon but it does have 245 hp and 199 lb ft of torque. I’m sure once loaded, it’ll meet most expectations. Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching
@@TwoGuysandaRide how did you guys no the torque number because Toyota doesn't state it , and I feel it should be a little more than that?
@Iboy Dafreshest actually I got my numbers reversed. It’s net 199 hp with 245 lb ft of torque. This information was gathered from Toyota’s press information. Thanks for watching
@@TwoGuysandaRide but Toyota states 245 hp cos its the same system in the Highlander Hybrid lol
Yeah, we know that. I responded to you that I switched the numbers around and should have stated 245 hp
You can stand the phone up in that front slot then it’ll fit.
Thanks for sharing and thanks for watching
I bought this car in Illinois and don’t have those pop up ottomans on the back seat 🤔
That option is only available on the top two trim levels. Thanks for watching
@@TwoGuysandaRide what do you mean? I purchased platinum model
@Magdalena K it’s only available at this time on the FWD Vans not on the AWD
@@TwoGuysandaRide thanks 😊
It’s only available on the FWD not AWD Vans
does anyone know if the lounger/ottoman 2nd row chairs available on the awd version?
According to Toyota, not available on the AWD Van at this time. Thanks for watching
1 question....what are the dimensions of the cargo area with the 3rd row seats folded down? Please...not in cubic feet lol
Well Cubic Feet is the measure of Volume and Dimensions measures size or distance. They aren't the same thing. You can find the dimensions your asking about as well as many specifications listed in the video beginning at 5:49
Great review very through

There;'s no bumpers the car is subject to front and rear damage. Middle seats don't come out. I hope Toyota fixes this problem.
Front and rear bumpers just like most other mini van designs. Second row seats have airbags so not removable. Thanks for watching
Thanks bud
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching
Like the mini the power supply etc, rest of them except the reclining and adaptive cruise are old features my 2011 has those features. Some what noisy,
Thanks for watching
Nice looking but the inside feels very cheap and plastic.
Actually it looks much better than the previous generation. Thanks for watching
Its sad you cant remove the second row seats without voiding the warranty because of the airbags. The campers and cargo haulers wont like this option either. Also because of this, the new sienna has the lowest amount of cargo space for all vans .
We agree. Thanks for watching
Fantastic review, first time watching you guys and you are much better than Doug’s review. He’s got such a pretentious tone it’s unbearable to watch him anymore.
Wow....thats high praise Props to Doug though, he does have his audience and we're happy for his success. Viewers like you will help us obtain that same success. Thanks for joining the channel...now tell all your friends! Thanks for watching!
95.5"? really?
Yup
Алла қаласа менде жақында Tayota siena flatinum сатып аламын.
Thanks for watching!
Waoooooo 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🔥🔥🔥👏🏼🔥👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks for watching!
Why does the info screen blink??? I have seen this on every Sienna review. It seems cheap and annoying.
If you’re talking about the way it blinks while we were filming that due to the refresh rate on the actual Infotainment screen but to the naked eye you can’t actually see it. Thanks for watching
Sick of Toyota/lexus ridiculous front fascia design! Hyundai designs rules!
To each his own. Thanks for watching
LOL...You must work for Hyundai
@@TwoGuysandaRide 😂 Great Review

Give be the bold look of an ‘05 Oddeysey
I was very upset when I took this car, it is economical and roomy, but the quality of the plastic is disgusting.
We were surprised by the amount of cheap looking and unfinished plastic in the van too. Thanks for watching
