I love the information you're providing to us newbies. Your articulation, insight, and tips and tricks are extremely beneficial. What is your take on getting based abroad?
Hi! I am really enjoying your videos and you have put them together really well! Could you possibly do a video on the very basics of standby, reserve and bidding? Im a beginner so I know nothing about this. I saw one of your videos where you reviewed each but I believe it was a bit more advanced. Thanks!!….and again I really have enjoyed your videos.
I have two virtual interviews coming up, one is Skywest that I applied to due to the potential to be based in Atlanta. The other is American. I've watched your video on regional vs mainline and I just wondered if you had any thoughts about choosing airline over base.
@@dhrayoga i didn't have to do a ftf with Skywest and I was asked to attend training for Skywest but couldn't go due to time of training...my son graduates this month, and it would have coincided with that. Got a CJO at mainline and waiting to hear on training. Good luck to you with everything!
Hey I’m assuming you work for AA( if not disregard this) but is PHL junior or senior? I already live here so it would make sense to keep me here if selected but if it’s a senior base I probably won’t have a chance
It sounds like a reserve person is a slot filler when someone calls in sick but I would like to know can they call you in days that u r really supposed to be off. Can they call u on your when u r off or can u make plans on yours days off
I would, for sure, NOT want to commute in this day and age with the weather, and even without the weather, all the cancellations and delays. What happens when you can't get to your base?
You basically have to give yourself enough options to get to base. You are only allowed so many times per year where you are covered by the commuter policy.
Great video. In USA you have so many opportunities and airlines to work for. I live in NZ and at the end of last year I have applied for Regional Cabin Crew position at AIR NZ but unfortunately unsuccessful. I need to wait 12 months to be able to re apply because they have 12 months stand down policy if unsuccessful.
Love your videos! It appears that you are working for the airline where I had most recently achieved Platinum status. Is it crazy that I am now switching careers at 60 and pursuing a late career with your airline and another U.S. major based in the south east?
This is awesome to hear! I'm 45 and always wanted to be a flight attendant. I applied 2 days later got an email did my assessment the next day I got a text for a phone interview. 20min later I got an email. Cheyenne Wyoming is freezing cold for a floridian, but I am 100% in. So excited!! After I get the hang of the industry I am Looking to become a pilot.
@The Daily Departure Thank you for the great information! I don't live too far from CLT, and I have just had my virtual interview. Is CLT considered more of a junior hub or senior hub? (I'm just trying to guess how likely it would be for me to be based there fresh out of training if offered the position.)
Hello…I have an upcoming F2F with probably the same airline that you work for. I currently reside in Phoenix… I see that the have a small crew base in Phoenix. What are the chances of getting based out of PHX. What would be my best option for commuting? Any tips for the F2F?
You won’t be able to be based there right away because they don’t take new hires but you could eventually transfer. It’s could possibly take 1-3 years give or take if they don’t choose to grow it a lot
Hi!!! I live in LA and have my f2f soon. I know that if I get the job I most likely won’t have LA as a base option :( how long do you think a transfer would take? What’s an easy base to commute to from LA? Thanks :)
United and American have Chicago. United had Cleveland but I believe it’s senior and delta has Minneapolis and Detroit for closest… for regional many have browse same bases if they do contracted flying for a major and republic had Indianapolis at one point, but if they still have it that’s another option
Hi! How do you know which bases are Junior versus Senior? Also, how do you check the amount of flights to/from airports? - is this something that you just observe using Google Flights/any third party that lists out all of the options or, as a FA, do you have access to something better than Google Flights? Thanks!
I would say ask around to flight attendants you may know who work for the company like maybe try and reach out on instagram or ask your instructors! Check out the app called flight view (just make sure to turn off code shared in settings) you can search specific routes and days of the week
Thank you for the information! So, from what I heard, if you really want to travel overseas and you are based somewhere where there are not so many direct international flights, then you may not get to travel abroad at all?
I might have a dumb question but wondering since I have an airport right near me but all flights operated by piedmont but if I was say not working or got a job with American or it’s subsidiaries can I still catch a flight to get to wherever I am abased at? I know when I worked airport ops w UGE I flew out only w United until my 6 months so wondering if that’s different if you are a flight attendant. Let me know thanks so much!
Thank you so much for your video! Do you (or anyone else reading this) know how long is the wait for MIA base for a new hire joining the FAAmily, these days? 🙏
My airline gives you a 2 hours call out which means you have A minimum of two hours to get to the airport so plan accordingly when choosing your apt for commute options
Hello! I was wondering, since you are based in Chicago, do you know what any airlines based in Chicago? I would wager Delta, United, and American, but not sure! I am looking at a long term plan to possibly start working toward being a flight attendant (I cannot currently accommodate this career in my life but looking at maybe 5-10 years out) so I know it may change by then, but any insight on the current state of things would be amazing for me for research purposes.
Hi.. I have my F2F with AA this Thursday and had originally put LAX as my first pick choice for base and Boston as my second (where I currently live) in my application, but I would like to switch to Boston as my first now. Can you get to pick again in training? Do you know if Boston is a senior or junior base? Thank you!

Not necessarily. It’s all personal preference because even in central and east coast trips we have early returns. Keep in mind if you are a west coast base you might still have a 4 am wake up during a layover on the east coast which is technically 1 am west coast!
Pilot, but it’s the same for FAs, you don’t pay for any flights, and airlines will not pay to relocate unless you get forced out of a base due to it closing or downsizing and your seniority can no longer hold that base.
My dream job but I don’t think it’ll work for me :-( I’m an only child and have a sick parent who I would like to remain close to. I know I will be gone majority of the time but having my base be MIA where I like would be amazing. Of FLL. Do you know if these bases are junior or senior? thanks for the video very informative 💜 I wouldn’t want to take up a space.
I just applied for a flight attendant job for American Airlines. I live in upstate New York and my local airport is Syracuse New York Hancock international airport. Jfk is a one hour flight from Syracuse New York so if I did international I would live in Syracuse and commute to JFK. Orlando Florida would be my second choice and Dallas my third choice.
This is misleading. You DO NOT get to choose your base. You can list your preferences, but the company always gives you what works for them, NOT you. Based on THEIR needs NOT yours.
I’m sorry you feel that way. As I mentioned in the video and many others (as well as on my instagram) bases are always bid and then awarded based on seniority. This video is meant to be informative to help people figure out which bases might be a fit for them, once they know what’s available. As you said yourself “list your preferences” -> this video is intended to help people figure out which order to places their preferences. And if they don’t get their top choice, they can always request a transfer! Additionally, if they know they won’t get their top choice, this video can help them figure out which city will be the best to commute to. If you feel differently, feel free to make a video that explains it better to help new hires! 👍🏼
I always thought the airline picked where you were located. This is good to know that you can at least have some say in location.

Thank you for your valuable information. Does your airline allow commuting when you first start?
Yes! They will ask you if you are willing to relocate while interviewing but there are no rules against it as long as you follow contract
Please, do you know of airline bases in Las Vegas? Or what website I can find airline bases?
