I recently purchased a boat with a 496 Mag HO. I had no idea what the long tube was for. It isn't attached to the drain plug on mine. I thought I was going to have to pump the oil out. Thanks for the info!!
I use the run the engine for about 20 minutes, get it warm but not hot, then suck it out the dipstick, only takes about 20 minutes to suck it all out vs days.
You never get all of it out with the pump compared to the drain tube. I’ve done it both ways. I prefer to get as much out as I possibly can so I have as much clean oil in the engine as possible. Some applications you just can’t drain it out the way I do so you have to use the pump. That’s the way I do it at least and I’m comfortable with it. I do realize that you have to plan ahead to drain the oil for at least 24 hours and some people don’t have that much time in which your preferred method would work just fine. Thanks for your comment.
My Mercruiser calls for the smaller wix filter……it’s shorter… did you purposely get a longer oil filter? Or is that what your direct replacement calls for?
A guy with all the 496 answers is always Good2Know
lol, thanks for the compliment. If you ever have any questions feel free to ask, if I don’t have the answer I’ll find it for you!

@neonodia if you take out your drain plug and look inside you should be able to see it I’m not sure if all of them have it or not. I believe they do.

Having trouble loosening the drain plug to drain the oil . Sprayed some Wd 40 🤷🏽♂️
Try to put 2 box end wrenches on it and squeeze with both hands

I purposely got the longer filter.
When's the water test with Raylar's intake and TB?
Next weekend
What oil filter wrench is that?
Lisle medium oil filter wrench. If you take the filter to the auto parts store I’m sure they will have 1 to fit.
