I've owned both. I got the mt09 first and sold it. It doesn't feel planted on the roads at higher speeds. The z900 is planted and powerful it handles way better.
I test road the Mt09 and the reason I didn't buy it was because the front end never felt planted enough for me. unlike the Triumph 765 RS that I test road and really liked allot. I ended up buying a second hand Ducati 939 Supersport. but now I am strongly considering the new Honda CB1000 Hornet SP. it has 155 hp and is getting great reviews. and has a similar price the the Z900.
With how small the price gap is between the MT and XSR it's a bit of a no brainer to get the better looking one in my eyes. But where I live the Z900 is 1600 euros cheaper than the MT09, so it's pretty hard to justify getting the MT09 in general. Even the Street Triple R undercuts it a bit in price.
Z900 for me. Looks much nicer and feels more planted. Owned a gen 2 MT09 and it was a fun bike, but I sold it and got the Z900. I really don't like the look of the new MT either. Test rode both and went with the Zed.
no matter what an MT 09 looks, it rides comfortably in regards to the seating position plus it rips your arms out of your body when you twist the throttle. Acceleration is impressive ... had both bikes, MT09 pulls harder
Personally I can't stand the Kawasaki Ninja space angles. Really only suited the H20. MT09 is not pretty but I like the minimalist body work and the muscle car intakes. The 09 also has the CP3 engine which is a Gem and leaves a smile on your face.
You won't get much more sound out of the Zed 900 with a slip on. Because of the bread box. You're better off just removing the end can all together. Ask me how i know
I owned the mt 09 sp 2023 I love the look of the mt! I sold it because i almost lost my license 3 times on it. Only bad thing about it is, at higher speed it doesn’t feel planted and its turning ratio is really bad.. I hate the look of the Kawasaki, it looks so boring and bland..
I've ridden both and the Z900 doesn't even come remotely close to the MT09 (2024). Cornering abilities of the Z900 are much worse, suspension feels off, the character of the bike is completely forgettable to me. I'd go with a new MT09 any day of the week and would never look back.
@@Legendary_Z9 possibly, of course stock tires are also a factor. I must say that the previous gen mt09 wasnt that good either. Got a test ride on one of those and wasnt very impressed, weird ergonomics etc. Current mt09 is way way better though.

Never been a fan of the MT looks, any generation. However the XSR is something else! I'd take the Z any day though.

i don't like the look of MT-09 as well, XSR900 is the better looking "twins". imo
I’ve fallen out of the sport / streetfighter scene, but these two bikes are both very intriguing. Especially being a taller rider.
The green gobler looks so much better though.
For shorter Riders, Z900 wins everytime.

Both great bikes tbf. You wouldn't be disappointed with either.

I got rid of the bread box. She screams now. Proper sport bike sound.

Z-1000R Sugomi looks even better than the Z-900....

Sounds like you needed the suspension to be dialed in, because I've ridden both and the MT is not nearly as planted IMO

You need to adjust the suspension to your liking, I did that to my 2018 z9 and the difference is day and night now.
I like kawasakis but Yamaha’s build quality feels better
