I've been a huge Tolkien fan since I was 11 and it was the maps that really sparked my curiosity. I remember reading The Hobbit in school but being really captivated by the map of Wilderland and wondering what was off the borders of the map. That drove me to read LOTR and then delve further into the history. Really enjoyed the video. Thanks for creating it.
man these videos are great dude. I’m young and a bit inexperienced with maps but two that I’d think might be cool to make a video about: Marauders map and Narnia’s map. Might also be interesting to explore some videogame maps… in ur own unique style, like this, of course!
One thing I love about the Wilderland map is that it feels like you could sit under the trees. Your point that it's a storytelling device is a great one.
Great video, i am so glad i found this channel... I have always been fascinated with cartography and LOTR, and having it explained by someone knowledge and able to articulate the finer points has been amazing
It amazes me how many content creators don’t get the thanks they deserve. A thousand views and only 70 likes 😢 hit the like button guys it goes a long way
I love these map breakdowns of Lord of the rings and The Hobbit. Thank you for making such amazingly detailed videos!!
I’m an adult who’s reading these books for the 1st time and this video was super informative thank youuuu

5:25 I didn't even know William Morris wrote a book. I only knew his art. Got to say I think his map looks awesome. Now I want to check out his books.
I felt a little bad saying it didn't hold a candle to Tolkien... I actually think it was pretty great too :)
"Wow, this is amazing! I've always wondered about the geography of Middle-earth. Thanks for bringing Tolkien's world to life through maps!"

I just realized that it's the shadows under individual trees that may create that feeling.
A world of ice and fire maps. Your videos are amazing thank you

Fantastic go-through of these maps, you highlighted many great points! Love the way you credited the mythological value of Thror's map!
Thanks for watching! Keep tuned for more :)

pretty amazing when you confront the fact that this stuff was published 75 years ago
But the Wilderland map has Christopher's initials, not John's.
Christopher was 13 when The Hobbit was published...
