Would’ve preferred if glads were here over Atlanta. Yeah 2023 Atlanta was overhyped, but they lived up to expectations for the most part. Glads on the other hand, had high caliber rosters for years (2021,2022,2023) and yet they never managed to win it all
Idk if they should count, as they only played 4 matches together (2 of which they had no practice for), but when I think of disappointments/what could have beens, I immediately think of the 2020 Runaway Titans roster. Fissure and Jehong were added to one of the most dominant teams of 2019, and they looked incredible in their first matches (Jehong nano’ing Haksal’s blade on Hanamura then getting an irl hug from him is one of my favorite OWL clips ever). Unfortunately, Covid hit and the Titans management screwed over their players hardcore. I’ll always be so curious about how well they could have done in that season, especially considering Summer Showdown was a hard Genji meta
OWL vs OWCS is like NBA vs Euro, the Euro teams have been playing with the same teammates for years, in the NBA, you are by yourself, being traded to different teams.
As a shock fan since day one the moment I saw Viol2t leave to go to Houston, I knew last year was gonna be real tragic with all those expectations and pressure, with zero leadership.
The worst thing about Shock that year was ALL the excuses i heard. Every single week it was a different excuse from fans about why they sucked. And it wasn't just that they sucked and were mismanaged and didn't have a dedicated hitscan. But just so many funny excuses for a supposed god team
2020 Atlanta Reign should have been an at least honourable mention another insanely hyped team with high expectation that ended up being the definition of mid the entire season rarely coming close to any relevant team
Shock were rumoured to pick up Heesu before the age limit was lowered to 17. If they did have Heesu I think they would've had that leadership but still wouldn't have been great. I think their problems were due to how late they arrived in NA after playing on ping and after that they were majorly boomed
With Nyxl it's even more funny that the team that stomped them got destroyed in the finals, like it wasn't even like Philly was insanely good in the playoffs, NYXL was just absent
The only team i would add is 2022 Shanghai. Coming off of a dominant 2021, and having a seemingly unbreakable roster from DPS to supports and a leader in Fate. But... For one reason or another they were only truly good in 1 stage and really struggled otherwise given who was on the team
A lot of their players struggled to adapt to ow2 Fate was significantly worse, so was Fleta. As well as coaching was a issue with them being slow to start every meta besides Jq they were still 18-6 overall and won a stage so it’s not tragic they were still good just not as good as the years before.
This is a fantastic video done very well, Great commentary and very well spoken, This man needs more subs and respect! P.S. Imho Glad's fell off after Surefour left their roster
For anyone interested in what happened during the 2018 Dallas Fuel (and any other Season 1 and 2 OWL teams) season, I highly recommend watching Divingby0’s S.I.R (Season in Review) series, sadly he stopped after OWL s2 to pursue a casting career but the ones he did do are all very informative and entertaining
Great video ! I’ve watched you since the 2020 playoff video, and for some reason, this one is one of my favorite, with the carpe video. Keep it up, you’re doing good.
Not to mention, the grand finals in 2018 was in NEW YORK. I bet with how dominant NYXL was that season, the OWL team chose NY cause they thought NYXL was a lock in for GF 🤦♂️
Dude, the first year (and the last bc it was the last one) getting really into owl was 2023, and i saw atlanta, literally winning everything besides a match or two, such a dominating performance and then they just fumbled against spark and i was like ????????? Like what just happened, is this supposed to happen? I was so confused
Regarding sandbagging, I think the merit is you don't want to go insanely hard all season and possibly burn out in playoffs. Shanghai in 2020 went extremely hard and were basically the best APAC team; they did decent in playoffs but you could feel Fleta having a rough time (granted, he's also not a hard carry warlord in general). Vs 2021 where they still played ok in stage 4, but didn't make that tournament, then locked back in for playoffs. You have a similar case to 2023 ATL - they went so hard that they refused to even lose scrims, and it clearly started to take a toll on them (probably Donghak more, either initiating or exacerbating Chiyo's issues with him). Obviously you also have to consider that this and 2020 had insane meta shifts compared to 2021 (and the opposite - Dallas Fuel 2022 basically locking in all season and winning stage 4 & finals), but I think a lot of OW players just don't respect how bad burnout can get.
@@TheESPER yeah i miss it too. not really sure what it is, current pro ow doesnt really do it for me; haven't really been interested since S6 playoffs unfortunately

Not overwatch League but the Team from China should have won OWWC 2023!
They got cucked by bastion but they did preform a massive choke job especially on Route 66
The sig comp was just superior
Comp diff really, Guxue is a good tank player but he only really plays Winton and Doom at that level.
It was pretty unlucky that meta for them. Bastion who hasn't been meta for years just happens to be good when Sig was crazy as well.
