Many moons ago the 4- 150 we had did the same thing shorted the engine wiring harness. Was sitting still hadn’t been used in a day or two. Caught The fuel line on top of the motor ended up melting the valve covers and the hood. Back then used parts were readily available and had it back together in a couple weeks. We were super lucky it wasn’t parked in the barn when it did it. Check and see what Brillman offers for a wiring harness.
In the 60's the land lady bought a quarter. A lot of rocks a big mess. Dad started to plow the place with a 3 - 14. He took the back bottom off. He dropped down 1 gear. A 4020 John Deere diesel in 3 rd gear smoking pulling a 2 -14 plow. Had a good milo crop!
I had a similar experience with my son’s 1964 Ford F100. It had a Mustang V8, transmission and Crown Vic suspension. I ripped the wiring harness out and threw it on the garage floor. My first thought was it would never run again. I purchased an aftermarket wiring harness and three weekends later it was like new. You’ll be fine.
Found recollections of my Dad pulling a plow just like that (3-16) with a super 88 diesel. That tractor also had a fire. Much like your 4-150. Great attitude, about the whole fire thing. Makes your heart beat faster.
All I can say is WOW, you got lucky. That would have sucked big time to lose your tractor after putting soooo much time and money into fixing it up. I'm sure glad that didn't happen. Atleast you will get it back to good condition and not have to worry about that happening again. I hope you are able to get the wiring you need. As for the 77,well, she was sounding great. You would know your ground better than I, so I don't know if plowing in a lower gear would have helped or not. We had some ground which we had to plow slower or we couldn't keep the plow in the ground. Too high of gear and the plow would simply ride up on top. See you soon.
The 77 sounds bad ass we had a 77 with 3/16 back in my childhood days 65 years ago. I loved plowing especially at night. I'm 74 now and enjoyed your video alot. Go Oliver
Sorry for your mishap. That put me in mine back when I was a teenager” 1975 -76 we had a 2-70 white wiring harness in the dash burned up the whole dash . No one was at home when it started . Luckily a volunteer a firefighter can by and put it out with a water hose near by got the battery disconnected saving it best part it didn’t have a cab and it was under warranty . I feel your frustration .
You got lucky with the 150, good luck on getting it back together. At least it doesn’t have a bunch of controllers that could’ve been wrecked when the wires shorted, that just makes a whole nother nightmare
Not hard to completely rewire. Put in a fuse block and go from there to the things that need power from you existing switches in the cab. I cut all the wires completely out of a 1960 model Autocar semi and completely rewired it. Started with 2 new fuse blocks. It had way more wiring than that tractor and I was done in 2 days. I’d never done that before either. When I finished everything was fused with the new style horseshoe fuses.
What really POes me more than anything is a butchered up wiring harness, had a 1986 Dodge pickup that Had cobbled up taillight wiring harness, the dealer that sold it new didn't have a good service dept reputation
The wiring issues sound exactly like old mopar wiring issues. The amp gauge is usually the culprit. I had almost burned up my Duster because of that gauge.
Just curious if you had a fire extinguisher on board? I have added fire extinguishers to all of my old tractors. I am also going to add battery cut off switches to everything too!
A day in a farmers life in a nutshell. Make a list of things to do for the day. Throw list away. Attend to emergency job that dropped into your lap like a "hot rock" ..... Nothing fun about wiring issues. Thankfully no permanent damage. And it sounds like you have the complicated side of the harnesses a spare. You always show us the good side and unfortunately, the bad side of a day's work. Hope this goes together smoothly. Thanks for the update Ethan. Take care. Fred.
Major bummer with the 4-150, but luckily you and your Dad got things under control before it got away from you. Wishing you luck finding at least some NOS harness parts. Always wondered what a 77 was rated to pull. In-laws had a Super 77 that could pull 3x14's in good conditions or 2x16's in hard ground. Late Summer/early Fall soil conditions took weight, power, and sharp (new?) shares...still had marginal depth control with changing soil types. You did a decent plowing job all things considered.
Just a quick thought if the tractor doesn't already have one, install a battery cut-off. Just be glad it happened outside in the daylight instead of in the barn at night, it could have been way, way worse.
Ethan, nice to see the 77 plowing. Too bad somebody had to hack up the wiring on the 4-150 that caused the fire. Hopefully you can find some New Old stock. 🤞🤞 Thanks Michael
Cars have had fuseable links (to stop wire burning where fuses would be not be a good idea) inline to stop this sort of thing for ages. I guess tractors were lagging behind on this.
Had about the same thing happen with the 520 we have. Was out in the field running the drag on some alfalfa ground that was getting planted and there a pop and the dash and under the seat just started blowing smoking. Of course the batteries are under the seat in those two cylinders are under the seat and my ass literally is lucky they didn’t blow up. The light harness shorted but the voltage regulator took a dump and it was overcharging. Luckily no flames and it didn’t burn. Just needed a new harness.
The boss’ 520 has a little resistor in the dash with an open air coil that likes to sizzle if it gets moisture on it. That will make you jump the first time you hear it.
glad it didnt happen in the new shed in middle of the night watched video that was started fire on a new JD battery rubbed bare and burn all the man machinery trucks combine planter skid loader 3 tractor iys scarey situation l now you can fix and be better than new l will be watchin!!!!
So glad no devastating fire..... I hate them amp gages in dash Eliminated my amps......77 dodge almost burnt down behind dash.....just a volt meter now

There’s ground around here like that.
Seat time is a good time to just relax and enjoy the day
Yep

Sounds like a nice ride.

For sure.
thanks for sharing - she did a good job pulling through that hard ground.
Yep

Speed doesn’t make any noticeable difference
That was some hard ground. Sorry to hear about the 4-150 but at least no one was hurt and it did not burn up

Night plowing is the best b

Things happen unfortunately
You got lucky with the 150, good luck on getting it back together. At least it doesn’t have a bunch of controllers that could’ve been wrecked when the wires shorted, that just makes a whole nother nightmare
Hopefully it didn’t fry the alternator
Glad things worked out OK despite the fire. My neighbor lost one of his hay barns full about 2 years ago to a similar fire. 😢
Now that's frigging sweet. Thanks Ethan.
Like You said at least it happened near the shop, I enjoyed the 77 plowing they have a wonderful sound when they're working.
Thanks.
Thks for the show brother the 77 is running great
Thanks

GLAD you are safe tractor is fixable and I agree I have OCD match the wire color and size soder shrink Rapp

One good thing you were close to the shop. Hopefully you can find a wiring harness wish you luck

Glad you’re ok, an the fire went out before it took off, hope everything well straight out for you
Thanks
Holy Cats! Good thing that didn't happen out in the field.
Yep
Wiring issues suck but you kept a good perspective...you're going to luck out and get that new old stock harness, I can feel it!
Thanks
Just curious if you had a fire extinguisher on board? I have added fire extinguishers to all of my old tractors. I am also going to add battery cut off switches to everything too!
No doubt, you'll have the 4-150 up and running better than ever.
Hopefully

Luckily it’s only a small harness and not a big rats nest.

It’s considered a 2-3 plow tractor.
Wow I am sorry buddy be safe out there your buddy from Nebraska
Thanks

I wonder if Agriservices in New York state, can make one up for you,i got a complete harness from them for 4020 and was really pleased
They don’t.
Ethan, nice to see the 77 plowing. Too bad somebody had to hack up the wiring on the 4-150 that caused the fire. Hopefully you can find some New Old stock. 🤞🤞 Thanks Michael
Thanks
Definitely a sweet plow
That'l put a little bump in your heart rate Farm Boy!!
Yep
If you smart fix everything right way.
What a disappointment.....however, you and your Dad are up to the challenge!!
It won’t be to bad.
Good time to swap that spare cab.
No it’s not.
Cars have had fuseable links (to stop wire burning where fuses would be not be a good idea) inline to stop this sort of thing for ages. I guess tractors were lagging behind on this.
Well, that sucks! Good luck!
Thanks
Do you know were to get the pattern for s d ring?

77 did a good job
Might we see the Hart Parr plowing soon?
No
I plowed some ground this fall that had been pasture for 80 years it was really hard
Wonder if Brillmann has the harnesses
No
You'll get it I know you can handle it
Thanks
Bummer on the wiring harness! I hope you can find one.
Thanks.
Well, that just suck.
Also check that it not over charging
Assuming you have good coverage on your equipment. If not now is the time to think about it. Umbrella insurance is relatively cheap per 1000
glad it didnt happen in the new shed in middle of the night watched video that was started fire on a new JD battery rubbed bare and burn all the man machinery trucks combine planter skid loader 3 tractor iys scarey situation l now you can fix and be better than new l will be watchin!!!!
The newer they get the worse the problems are.
So glad no devastating fire..... I hate them amp gages in dash
Eliminated my amps......77 dodge almost burnt down behind dash.....just a volt meter now
Try Korves for wiring harness
They don’t go into the 4 wheel drives.
Basically
Got lucky.
Yep
I hope you wear hearing protection
Keep hoping
77 sounds good chugging along. Sorry about the White dude
Thanks.
do you own a sub soiler thats what you need
You didn’t watch the video…. 🤦♂️
It looks like one gear slower would have helped
Doesn’t make a lick of difference
@@Oliver66FarmBoy maybe new plow shares
The points are almost new. Maybe the ground is just to hard to plow….
That tractor is junk
Tractor is fine. You’re just incapable of doing anything other than being a bitter old man. Who also happens to be constantly wrong……
