How to Make a Starbucks Mocha at home | NO SYRUPS

- While we're all safe inside our homes, unable to have our favorite barista-made drinks, it's a great time to learn to make our own specialty coffee drinks at home. Today's drink is a favorite of many, the Mocha. I like to think of mocha lattes as grown-up hot chocolate. Super cozy and decadent to enjoy as a treat. Since we aren't traveling out to buy ingredients, I used only ingredients that I thought most of us would have at home already. Enjoy!

I tried this and it tasted really good. Just like the Starbucks one. I felt better about drinking it too because it was a lot healthier. Would recommend.
So glad you liked it!
Who else came here because they really want coffee
Yes
🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏽♀️😂
I just tried this out and it taste like 90% or more of what I buy at Starbucks! thanks!
Yay!! So glad it turned out good for you!!
I’m pretty sure that was a diss against Starbucks but ok
@@bradyritter2193 I don't understand how that's a diss. Unless you read their comment wrong.
Love this. Thx so much. I have t been having coffee much lately but I am really craving this today.
Thank you so much!! I tried it and it tasted just like Starbucks' mocha, and less sweet, which is just perfect for me. Mocha is my fave drink in Starbucks, but I haven't been to Starbucks for more than a year because of the pandemic, so this recipe helps a lot 🥰 Thanks again!
So glad I could help!
Snowflake
Tried this myself and invested in a handy little milk frother from Target for $6 using soymilk and it worked GREAT! I used plain coffee in a French press (dark roast) and made sure it sat for a good amount of time, honestly does the trick for the mocha taste and now my boyfriend begs me to make this every morning!!!!! Awesome awesome recipe!!!!
I'm so glad it turned out well for you!! I actually made myself one today too!
Thanks Dana! Just got a nespresso machine and now thanks to you I can make my favorite drink!
😁🤙
I'm so jealous!! Enjoy your new nespresso!
My mom loves to go to Starbucks and I hate when I have to leave so I need your help to make one!
I’m not even kidding when I say this taste literally exactly like the Starbucks mocha. Thank you so much for this recipe. I think I could my go to drink during the day ❤️❤️
I'm so glad it turned out well for you! ❤
I made this for my wife today and she absolutely loved it! Thanks for sharing this recipe.
This tastes so good thank you so much
Yaaay I'm happy you liked it!!
Thanks so much for these
Hi Dana - I just made my first hot mocha at home and it turned out GREAT! Thank you and have an awesome day.
You are so pleasant and clear to understand/follow. Thank you for the great tips, too. New subscriber!
Aww thank you! Welcome to the channel ❤️
Can't wait to try this! Been attempting an at home mocha for a while now but never quite getting it right! This tutorial seems really good! :)
I hope it turns out perfect for you!!
I don’t like coffee all that much but I was in dire need of one today, I was skeptical of this simple recipe but it was soooo good! Thanks!
I'm so glad you liked it!!
Hey thanks for sharing I've tried to make this with chocolate syrup but it didn't have that "TASTE" now I know why it's the cocoa I need and what I'm guessing what gives it that unique "TASTE" cheers!
My nearly perfect Mock Café Mocha
In a 2 c. microwaveable measuring cup, combine:
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 heaping teaspoon instant coffee (I use decalf but powered espresso would be better)
1/2 teaspoon Hershey's Dark chocolate cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon Ghirardelli !00% Dutch-Process cocoa (I got it at Wal-Mart)
1 Tablespoon powdered Stevia or Truvia
Heat in a microwave (3 min in a low powered microwave)
Stir/vigorously beat with a small wisk to combine and create some froth
Add whipped cream if desired & enjoy
I just bought the bottled mocha frappuchino yesterday, I got tired of buying it every grocery trip so I made this, tastes just like it, if not better, I definitely recommend.
Yay I'm so glad you liked it!!
These videos are getting me through quarantine!
Glad I can help!! I hope you guys are staying safe and healthy.
@@DanaDeStefano We are! 😁 I hope you and Gerald are healthy and safe too! Also Happy 1st wedding anniversary to you both. I meant to text you happy anniversary the other day but I forgot.
@@carestookachance5915 Thank you!! 💖💖💖
I bet it taste great! Going to make it later on today. & as for like an adult drink maybe, adding some Malibu rum is all you need 😉
Thanks for the tips, I'm gonna try this out ASAP! : V
Awesome!! I hope you love it!
Thank you so much for this video! How would you suggest making this a tuxedo/black and white mocha?
Maybe not an EXACT dupe, but I love using sweetened condensed milk as "white mocha", so for a tuxedo mocha I'd use half the amount of chocolate and sub sweetened condensed milk for the other half! Of course there's Torani and other brands that make white mocha sauces if you prefer that!
Tastes almost exactly like Starbucks 😍 best tutorial for a mocha yet
Glad it worked for you!! ❤☕
I’ll be saving so much money while enjoying my favourite coffee thanks to you
So glad I could help! Enjoy! ☕
@@DanaDeStefano I just made it and not only it’s fast to make, but I also didn’t need a microwave or a coffee machine. It tastes just like Starbucks coffee except it is more caffeinated. Thank you again for the video!
Hey! Love this! I have a question about the coffee. I only have fresh coffee grounds or instant? Would any of those be useful for this method?
Yes!! If you're using instant coffee, use less water than you normally would to make it more concentrated. Same with grounds, you'll want to use less water or brew it longer to make it extra strong so it'll hold up against the milk and chocolate. Hope this helps!!
Made this with instant coffee granules, still so good 🙆🏻💫
So glad it worked for you!! ☕
That was very informative. I did not know how concentrated the caffeine in cold brew coffee. Thank you.
I really like how detailed you are and this is way cheaper 🙂
Loved this video so much! Thank you for this I will be getting some co coa lol. Oh I do have a question which cocoa is okay because I have bought cocoa before and it made no sugar in it. That is the correct one right?
Yes!! Plain cocoa powder is what I used, and I added the sugar in. If you buy a sweetened one or a hot cocoa mix, you can leave the sugar out!!
Dana DeStefano thank you so much! 🥰
@@mollyislovely of course!! I Hope your mocha comes out great!!
I had no idea it was mostly milk. Crazy. Thank you for this video.
This taste exactly like caffe mocha starbucks....thank u so much
I'm so glad you liked it!
Thank you for this video!!! How can I make it iced? Should I still use warm water to mix the cocoa powder and water?
Try just simply adding ice, if that isn't good enough, I'd go for lukewarm, I'd say experiment!
Yes the water should be warm, after that add some cubes of ice and pour the cold milk
I'm gonna try this at home using a GSI outdoor espresso maker and microwaved half and half that I run a immersion blender in. Not sure what I'll use for chocolate. Maybe some swiss miss and unsweetened hershey's cocoa powder mixed together. Wish me luck.
Good luck! Hope it turns out great!
i will try it tomorrow but with normal cocoa
i did it! it is really good and tastes even better❤️. i forgot to add coffee first and i add milk in chocolate sauce, but doesnt change nothin✨✨
Can I use cold brew? Will it taste as good as Starbucks one
okay, I LOVE this combination of Hershey's Cocoa and a small shot of Espresso. It genuinely tastes like a Starbucks Mocha. I LOVE IT. See you in the summer, StarB!😁
Try making it, I'm sure you're gonna love it.
No one:
Me: I need a Mocha, not a regualr coffee
Also me: 📝📝📝📝📝
They make their peppermint mocha’s from Starbucks combined really nice.
That’s great because I want to get a job one day when I am older and after I graduate from high school and work at Starbucks one day when I am 42 years old.
I was watchong this video while following directions and when mine was complete is was AMMMMMAAAAAZZZZZZZIIIIIINNNNNGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Yaaay I'm so glad it turned out good!!
You COULD use half as half-and-half (lactose free if intolerant) and use either Lakanto Golden or Bocha Sweet to sweeten it and if you wanted, instead of that extra spoon of cocoa, grate a little dark chocolate, this could make it sugar free and low carb in general for those who may be curious and follow everything else exactly as Ms. deStephano showed here.
Yesss that would work so well!! On Christmas I tried melting a Ghirardelli square into my espresso, and using real chocolate like that was a game changer! Such a rich flavor and smooth texture!
I meant to say "half as much dairy in half-and-half" tablet and phone typing sucks when you're used to typing much faster on a keyboard, good old mechanical keyboards.
@@DanaDeStefano I do the same thing, but I make a dark chocolate peppermint mocha, I have a french press concentrate that's pepperminty that I use for it.
Bonus tip from an ex-barista: I don’t know if this is true everywhere, but where I live you can buy the Starbucks flavor syrups from Starbucks too, so if you like a peppermint mocha you can buy their peppermint syrup to have at home! That’s what I do :)
Yes!! The Starbucks I used to work at was super busy, so a lot of the time we had to turn people down when they'd ask to buy syrups so we'd have enough, but definitely worth it to ask! Starbucks inside Target is a good bet as well!
Instead of water for the sauce to stir the cocoa can i add milk instead?
Yes!
I read that you shouldn’t heat almond milk on the stove top or microwave because it makes it bitter or something
Why not add the cocoa as a powder if youre going to stir it anyway?
What is the water measurement
Thanks, I was craving a mocha but my nearest Starbucks is really far away and I don’t have a car
Glad I could help!!
I wonder if the sauce would taste better with milk rather than water
I have never seen a cup of brewed coffee having more caffeine than a shot of espresso. Consumer reports says that there are 63mg of caffeine to 12-16mg in brewed coffee. That is per ounce. Saw another saying there is 4 times the amount of caffeine in an ounce of espresso compared to brewed.
Me, who doesn’t even drink coffee: *Write that down, WRITE THAT DOWN!*
Got Hershey’s Cocoa, today! I couldn’t find, the Dark Special Chocolate… 😢 I hope still, turns out okay… first time making my own mocha, coffee. 😊
It'll turn out great with regular Hersheys!! ☕️❤️
You can try looking for Dutch coco powder. It is definitely that dark rich chocolaty coco!
So the Starbucks mocha sauce is a combination of cocoa powder, sugar, & water? I had just assumed Starbucks had all those containers w/ pumps along the counter & that they started Mochas by pumping in syrup. Interesting
The syrups in the pumps are made from a powder mix! We add in the water, mix it up real good, and then put it into the containers with the pumps to use through the day!
Can I make this cold, using cold coffee? Using the same ingredient? I don’t got a blender, or any fancy machine…
Yes, definitely!
Fontana makes Starbucks brand. Cheaper to buy direct.
I've been using powdered cocoa in my coffee for DECADES and always with a dollop of whipped cream. I call it my poor man's Starbucks;) Now, I use the sugar-free because I have to watch my sugar intake :/
Drinking a hot mocha right now. Seriously guys. I'm gonna miss Starbucks and McDonald's....lol 😀🙂🤣
🥰🥰🥰
Hershey's chocolate syrup is a lot easier to deal with. :-)
2 tbs sugar
1 tbs cocoa
:)
I really didn't want to use cocoa powder
If you have the time and want a super decadent mocha, you could always melt some chocolate and use that instead of the cocoa powder mixture!
Espresso has 3 times a much caffeine as a cup of coffee
A shot of expresso has 63 mg of caffeine. An 8 oz cup of coffee averages about 112 mg of caffeine. Those would each be considered one serving, so the coffee actually has almost twice the amount per serving.
@@meslaura yes but per volume
Who drinks 8 oz of espresso at a time?
Edited to add: I’m not trying to start an argument here. I just think that she meant that espresso has less caffeine per serving, which is true. People tend to think they’re going to wired off of a grande latte, but with only two shots of espresso, it’s not any stronger than an 8oz cup of coffee.
@@meslaura i would
@@meslaura who drinks 1 shot of coffee at a time?
Espresso by far has more caffeine on an ounce for ounce basis. Unless you're saying the Department of Agriculture is wrong.
Ounce for ounce yes, but typically we drink far less espresso in one serving than a full cup of coffee. A latte that contains two shots of espresso has far less caffeine than something like a caffe misto made with brewed coffee.
I came for the coffee but stayed cos she's hot 🔥🔥🔥😍
Omg ☺☺☺
