I'm approaching 400 hours played. I take breaks for a few months but always come back and start a new factory with my friend. I like that you tell people to take their time, because that is super important to grasp the game. It took me a really long time to figure out rail signals to have many trains on one track safely, even though it is the simplest thing for me now. I've heard that people tend to fall off the game once you have to start piping liquids, but that was never really difficult for me. I like puzzling things and that's what a some of the gameplay is like.. Scanning the factory to make better use of space, and weaving one just one more belt thru the spaghetti. One can also go the opposite route and instead of compact, go for efficient. It all depends on what you want! Even with nearly 400 hours in, there are some systems I haven't played with that much, nuclear being one of them. Since I'm always playing with my friend we have naturally specialized. I do trains and refineries, he does nuclear and radar/power grid. Highly recommended to play with someone who you cooperate seamlessly with. All great tips and a fun video!
Trains = greater throughput than any belt can give you. So one railway is like compressing several belts into one. Trains can have multiple freight wagons and can be loaded/unloaded on both sides.
Just playing a few games and only progressing to purple science and restarting can be very helpful. You get to redo your factory and you can see how far you have come in the game. This lets you review what you want to do and gives you some time to think about what you want to do next.
Overscaling has nothing to do with growth. Overscaling is actually hindering the growth of the factory. Cause overscaled things usually don't get finished or serve no purpose. But I can agree to disagree. Except for one thing: The Factory must grow!
Great video for beginners :D A Comment on the ratio, machines shows ratio/second in Space Age in the tooltip. Makes it easier to calculate number of machines you need. Again great video, make it your way. Is it the perfect ratio? -No. Does it work? -Yes. Perfect!
I appreciate this video. Going through a ton of different tutorials before I consider jumping into space age. Only beat Factorio once but that was years ago. And I did not sprint across the finish line, I was crawling, barely got the needed rocket parts made to finish it.
It's there a resource for how to split up factories? Like whick production to group and which ones to separate? Also, what's on the ground if your factories? I love the look of it and want to do the same.
I'm using Bricks on some parts and Reinforced Concrete on other parts. The light gray stuff on the minimap is Brick, the Reinforced Concrete is very dark gray. And I know only video guides about how to set up whole factories, but these are usually longer Let's Play Series. I'll see what I can personally cook up, but until then I'd still warmly recommend the cheatsheet I have linked in the description. The information there can be used to group things up nicely in an effective way. Hope this helps o/
NIce one. When are you gonna cover some more advanced tips? I need more info about "main bus" as I am currently constructing one and need to check if I got all the best practices that I can ;)
Hey man, really enjoyed this. I got the game the other day and so far the main thing that puzzles me is layout. I'm very particular when it comes to organization in these types of games, and ''spaghetti'' drives me insane. The problem is that I have no idea where I should be placing things and the general size of said blocks. I want to go for some kind of modular approach with enough space in between for other things.
My recommendation here: Look for a spot with as few cliffs as possible (or turn them off completely) and start on an area with MASSIVE amounts of free space. Tolerate what you built and didn't like until you hit robot technology. Once you got construction robots you can CTRL + X on an entire block and order it to be rebuilt somewhere else. So you can organize your bits afterwards if you have the desire to. So just experiment and progress, eventually the game gives you all the tools to reorganize yourself. Hope this helps o/
Currently none as I'm trying to win Space Age full on Vanilla and I'm not done yet ^^ I'd try to get back into Helmod and hope that it's back online and running once I'm done with Vanilla Space Age as this is and was my favorite ingame planning mod.
I am about 10h into this game and questions.... for you 1. Are the resources endless in the game? I am sure not in one spot, though. And is it necessary in the game to chase resources? 2. Is a way to dump all the stuff I carry in my backpack? 3. Is there a way to dump it into a chest at once? Not like taking single items one by one. Thanks
Hey there! 1.) You can choose to have endless resources. Or you can configure how rich/scarce resource patches are. It's all at the beginning of a session though, can't be changed afterwards anymore. 2.) Yes. Set up a chest, put the stuff in you don't need anymore. Then take your gun, hold your cursor on the chest and hold down SHIFT+Spacebar. Stuffs gone =) 3.) Shift+Left Click and Ctrl+Left click should do the trick. Hope this helped o/
@@Ic0nGaming Thanks! Ill try. I need to restart it then because I already depleted a bunch of resources and set new mines way. But chasing the map for resources sucks. LOL.
Thank you. You would not believe how unhelpful many people are with explaining splitters (and the intersection trick). I just started the game. Like I’m not going to watch an hour video for what should be a few minute demonstration and explanation. For people who preach about efficiency in factorio they don’t have any teaching comprehension. To me it means they either don’t really understand it either or are looking to waste your time.
Well, explaining things fast and easy to grasp isn't easy at all. Thanks for giving me the feeling I was able to pack up my info in a efficient manner =)
Yall should learn a SKILL... lol, you could learn how to do animations or web pages or electrical engineering instead of playing a game thats basically a job
Somebody jealous he ain't got the time for Factorio? Seriously, people can spend their time on what they want. Your statement is not only intrusive it ain't true either. Skills learned here can easily translate into other jobs. Learning something is NEVER wrong, even if it's "just" a computer game. Sure, don't let your private life down, but we all are allowed to have time intense hobbies ffs.
"avoid overscaling" wrong. consider what you think you need, then multiply by 10, that's what you think is good now. Then multiply by 10 again, and we're closer to what you probably need. But it's most likely to be more. Also, producing full belt is using game optimizations. You lose performances if you use belt that are not compacted
It ain't overscaling if it's exactly what you need. If you are just guessing what you need you're most likely shooting a wrong direction. If you already know Factorio you surely can plan ahead like this, but when I was starting out it actively blocked me from playing when I tried to plan as far ahead as the content creators I watched. And when I finally came back and just built my first rocket it was done with two red belts of iron and copper and thats it. If you feel like building big, go for it. But if you don't you don't need to. We are all wired differently.
@@Ic0nGaming thats not what you need "at the moment", but at some point you will expand (because you have to) and you'll be very happy to not get your circuit production become as dry as a grandma pussy, giving you time to overscale it again. Always overscale basic resources (plates, circuits ...)
The factory must grow!!
OP: "Pick an area that is surrounded by trees. They eat pollution."
Me: *Looks at burning husk of the forest surrounding my central base I used a flamethrower to clear.*
It's fine, you just jumped ahead and discovered that trees are the final boss of the game earlier than the most.
The Factory must grow after all.
One of the least overwhelming factorio videos I've seen - yet I feel like I learned a lot. Thank you!
Thanks, I was really trying my best to make it like that o/
YAY Factorio! Watching this one now.
Space Age bettered up the game so much, it's quite insane
@@Ic0nGaming do you know if it makes a difference buying the dlc before reaching end game in the base game first?

max speed with 15 wagons per locomotive with nuclear fuel!!!
The spaces is a good idea. I started doing this in my fifth run. and I do loops up and down.
came for amazing cultivation sim. stayed for everything :D
I'm right there with you, same for me!
Nilaus said he hates "mall" because those're places for consumerism, or something.
Also, it's been a while. Good to be back. : )
I only saw some of his video titles implying that he desires to call his expansionary hubs differently :D
Welcome back, always a pleasure o/
In order for the factory to grow, the factory must CONSUME.
Just playing a few games and only progressing to purple science and restarting can be very helpful. You get to redo your factory and you can see how far you have come in the game. This lets you review what you want to do and gives you some time to think about what you want to do next.
Great timing i just bought it couple days ago and my factory is a mess lol Thankyou for making thisss
This was AMAZINGLY helpful. Thank you so much!

@11:53 - These belt control techniques are exactly what I wanted to know! My attempts to sort out each half of the belt did not go well.
