@@KingVulpes Yeah, maybe. I do think the difference between carrying around the M1 Air and the 12 inch MacBook is very noticeable though. Especially when I do a large amount of walking about with a smaller backpack.

I have an M1 MacBook Air, which is the best laptop I’ve ever had. Since picking up this 12 inch, I have found myself grabbing it instead if I know I’ll be moving around a lot during my day. I travel quite light, and often on foot, and the difference in weight is noticeable.
I just updated mine from Catalina to Ventura and I expected it to perform awful but it’s actually way better than Catalina . Like I got a new computer.
FYI. I'm running Sonoma on my 2015 MB 12 without problems using OpenCore Legacy Patcher 1.0.1! Also running Windows 11 via Bootcamp quite well too. This is not my main Mac (MB Pro 2016 i7 15") but I use it to test the latest operating systems and everything works fine.
I've just done a battery swap on one of these; easy enough, watch the flex cable as it breaks easily. Great display but I wasn't in love with the keyboard, and I seemed to be experiencing not much clickiness in the 'force' trackpad. I'm wondering how well it will play with an external USB dock for HDMI video, will noodle around and see. Oh, also OCLP & Monterey works a treat.
Thanks for the comment! Good to hear the battery isn’t too difficult to switch out. I really like the display on these, and yeah, the keyboard is not ideal.
I would love them to come out with a 12" MacBook now. Would go nicely with the 14" and 16". I had one for several years and loved it for being on the go. To be fair, if someone is expecting it to be a video editing bay, the expectation is wrong. Also, when running something more demanding, it's a bit better plugged in than on battery.
Thanks for the comment :-) It would be fantastic, yeah! I have used mine daily for quite a while now and the battery has really become a hindrance. I’ll likely replace it at some point soon. To be fair to it, the battery was already suggesting a service when I got the Mac. As you say, video editing on this computer is not the point of it. It has been great for simple browsing and document editing. Cheers
@@IrensTech Also, when I got mine new 2015, the demo in the Apple Store had Final Cut on it and could do something, but as you say, it took a while. I'm sure iMovie would be more reasonable. @@Scott__C Oh yeah, back in 2015 it would have handled the common 1080p video editing, and the then version of Final Cut. Unless you were doing something really fancy. Cheers
I don't own a mac device but there was someone who was kind enough to let me use her MacBook, It's a 12-inch MacBook 2015, It has a 1.1 Ghz Intel Core M processor, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB storage It's running OS X 10.11.6 El Capitan, It's outdated I know but there's a reason why we couldn't update it to big sur because the connection there was very slow and it would take forever to download, it would just fail sometimes More notes: She bought the 12-inch Macbook 2015 from launch day and the battery condition isn't very good, She told me that it drains very fast on simple tasks and also being idle. And also she told me that she's getting a new MacBook Pro later this year.
Thanks for the comment :-) The MacBook you borrowed is the same model as mine. It is not too bad for me running on Big Sur. It’s a shame you couldn’t get it to update. The battery on mine has a warning about needing a replacement, and on an 8 year old machine I’m not really surprised. I’m thinking to try changing the battery at some point. An M series MacBook would be much, much faster for sure.
Very helpful VDO, I have one of a 12’ 2015 model from a second hand store almost three years ago. Now its battery needs replacing, I’m thinking of changing its battery or shifting to new models of M series. But I use it for web browsing and light editing on MS office. Any idea for suggestions?
If you can stretch to it, picking up an M1 MacBook Air is well worth it. Even a second hand one. It is far superior to the 12” in every way except for portability. Replacing the battery is an option, but is a bit of a pain. It requires removing adhesive and then sticking in a new one. I’m thinking to do a similar replacement on a 2013 MacBook Pro which also had glued in batteries.
It works extremely well for all Office and online tasks. But the 2017 version with an i5 is much better, as it runs Ventura, which had some important new macOS features in many apps. Sometimes some programs like Excel take a while to start but once they’re running lighting fast, just as fast as on on my one year old MacBook Pro (which is almost weird TBH). I also think it’s great that you can run Windows 10 on it, also works super well. The biggest advantage is how portable it is and how comfortable the keyboard is, it’s clicky and extremely comfortable to write on.
Thanks for the comment :-) You are right in saying the 2017 version is quite a bit quicker and more compatible, but this little 2015 MacBook still does the basics. I don’t really need it to be more powerful or do anything more complicated as I use a much newer Mac for that (M1 Air). As you say, the lightness and thinness of these things just can’t be matched. Cheers
I had a M1 and I just didn't use it. I have a 2016 MacBook 12" and it became my go any where laptop and I love it, and replacement betteries are pretty cheap. If I need any more than that, I have a 2017 MacBook Pro that can handle anything else.
Thanks for the comment :-) Yeah, my 12 inch has become my daily work laptop. I still use my M1 for video editing and anything when I’m at home, due to the bigger screen and much snappier operation. My 2013 Pro is now my Windows computer.
