2015 was a great year for apple products.
-Extremely functional macs
-MagSafe
-Ports galore
-Glowing logo
-GREAT keyboard
-great prices
-no overheating
-iPhone 6S, which set a record for iPhone sales
-the first iPad Pro and Apple Pencil
-the first Apple Watch
-no dongles for anything
2016 was the worst turning point in Apple history.
-Butterfly Keyboard
-Only USB-C on macs
-the touch bar
-no headphone jack on iPhone
-magic mouse that charges from the bottom
-extremely expensive book with pictures of Apple products
-a weirdly shaped battery case
Jony Ive went crazy that year
Joel TM Wow nicely done.
2016 was the worst turning point in the world history, it was a simpler time.
and two completely usuless Thunderbolt 2 ports. But otherwise I agree
yep :/ .. i feel like 2016 was the first year that they ran out of Steve Jobs' plans and also got more lazy with everything working properly because he wasn't there to demand it from everyone
iPhone 6S did not sell more than the 6
Hear me out: 2015 MacBook body with Apple Silicon
Perfection
Mac se
Oh yea
@@mrpresident1702 yeah
@Terry Desmond BOT
but bigger trackpad
the 2016+ trackpads are just perfection
I never used MacOS, and wanted to use one for a change. My friends recommended to just buy a used Macbook 2015, so this is a great video while I'm hunting for one.
It’s such a good platform to build off of, I really wish they’d kept this up.
Like what you said on your video, I don't really need that power the new macbooks are offering since I will mainly use it for project management. Thanks for this video!
just get an ARM macbook as soon as they become available (faster, smaller, warranty, 2x+ battery life, lighter, usb-c charger (smaller brick, 1 cable for data and charging) . Or at least get a 2015 w/ replaced battery
@A C thank you for sharing your experience with this laptop
@@HaswellCore I love how people say just get an arm one lol it's gonna be an extra 1200$ but ya just get that instead. 2015 is all you need for basic use
Just shrink the bezel, increase the trackpad, and put the M2 chip in this and we would have our perfect Apple laptop! It's such a timeless design.
Haha great comment!
bezel is fine people get so bent out of shape about the bezel
It's not just about the bezel. The screen size can be increased without making the computer larger. @@user-jl3to4nh2e
Had mine 6 years. I'm a software developer and still use it as my main machine. Favourite machine ever.
Wow. This is such a reassurance. I have just wired the money for this to my buddy who's upgrading to a latest one.
omg same
Battery life??
@@atharvpatil3106 battery life is usable, though I should probably get it replaced. I should add you want a fully specced out 2015 model for it to be usable today.
@@botleydot I think I should just get a mba M1……
The early 2015 13" i5/256/8GB is still my main computer. I had a 2017 15" for a couple of years and sold it last summer because nothing I did on it was something I couldn't do on the older 13". It's a great computer if you're not doing anything that needs modern power.
Which ios are you running right now? I’m on sierra, and bootcamp doesn’t work, so i’m thinking to uphrade to catalina. I had bad experience with upgrade, specially with iphone (8.4 to 12) and ipad (8.4 to 12)
@@D4aniB I keep it updated, so it's running the recent version of Big Sur. I don't do much more on it than surf the web, do zoom classes, and manage some Excel spreadsheets, so I never really see it slow down.
@@D4aniB 2 years later (Nov-2022), and my Mid 2015 MacBook Pro is still going, and remains my main machine. Current macOS is Monterey v 12.6. OS upgrades are now causing certain features (that I don’t use) to disappear. Features can be restored with a few tricks you can get here on UA-cam. But Apple has recently announced that the Mid 2015 MacBook Pro, among other models listed will be dropped from future upgrades all together. Only Apple gets away with that dubious business practice which screws end users.
But few users complain*. Any other company such as Microsoft, for example would be held in contempt of Congress. (No joke)
* Class actions and other legal actions concerning “Planned Obsolescence” that I am aware of are almost all related iOS, not macOS.
Anyone have details that I missed?
It is now Nov-2022. My main computer is and shall remain my Mid 2015 MacBook Pro Retina, 15, 2.5GHz i7, 256 SSD,16GB DDR3, now the 57 Chevy of Classic Macs (of course I had no idea Macs would ever become “classics” when I bought the unit new in 2015). I like it so much, that I bought a “certified refurb”, same model, slightly higher specs, this year (as a back up).
I absolutely do not NEED anything else at this point. If for some reason I come to require any of the features of the M1 + Thunderbolt 4 I will buy a Mac mini (now going for about $700 USD on Apple refurb and Amazon, Japan) to access those features but the 2015 MB Pro will remain my main machine.
What else does a home office plus home entertainment EOS really need?
The requirements for a perfect MacBook for me: Glowing Apple logo, MagSafe, a non-butterfly keyboard, a force touch trackpad. This MacBook meets ‘em all
got a used one on eBay about 6 months ago. I love it. typing on my 2015 early map 13 inch. best laptop I ever owned.
How did it turn out
@@miraadams4765 got it with about 205 charging cycles. Battery last for about 6-7 hours. Few scratches at the bottom. The screen has the staingate issue but you can’t see it while it’s on. Overall amazing machine. I do basic stuffs on it like excel email browsing Amazon videos handles it well. I have 128gb ssd I was thinking to upgrade it. Highly recommended.
@@danielpeti3885 oh nice. Thanks yeah. I think I’m gone get me one today.
@@miraadams4765 for how much did you get it?
@@miraadams4765 how do you like the laptop ?
I'd always had PC laptops, but when I started grad school in 2015, the classes were 3 hours long and our classrooms didn't have readily available wall sockets. So, I bought the 13" 2015 MacBook pro. I upgraded to a 15" 2018 model eventually, but I still have my 2015, and it really was great. Excellent ports, gorgeous display, great keyboard, classic Apple trackpad, MagSafe charging, and a phenomenal battery life.
I'm never getting rid of it.
It’s good for making music and school and watching YT. That’s what I use it for
As regards to the thermal test, keep in mind that this is a 5 year old machine with old thermal paste and possibly a lot of dust inside. I recently cleaned and changed the thermal paste on my 13 inch MacBook Pro from 2013 and the thermal throttling almost gone, running 15 to 20 degrees lower during heavy load.
Thats a good point, its already pretty good thermally, I bet an internal cleaning would do wonders for it.
How you do that ?
the glowing apple 🥺
🥺
Watching it on just such a computer. Love keeping it clean, up-to-date, and otherwise optimized. Meets my needs as an office professional. Unless it fails me in some significant way, I'll keep it till it no longer gets updates.
This is my daily driver Mac. It’s still amazing to this day. I managed to get a cheap replacement OWC SSD to bring the storage up to 480GB. The lack of the T2 chip is a little irritating, as it prevents the use of Sidecar. The SD card reader is extremely useful, as I use the BaseQi micro SD adaptor that fits flush into the port and allow you to add a ton of cheap storage.
Just purchased one and came here for confirmation that I made the right decision. Thank you for this 🙏🏽
Same hey 😀
Me too
I'm watching this on my 2012 and upgrading to the 2015 in a few days. Sounds like this machine is worth keeping for a few years. This is an awesome review
Still using my early 2015 MacBook Pro 13-Inch Retina Display until now and still satisfied with it! ❤️
Still using this to do all my graphic design work. I have no need for a new macbook until this one breaks down. Dont waste your money on a new one.
If it breaks down how do you migrate the files to a new laptop?
Thank you. I just picked this model up refurbished for just over £400. Having not had a computer for 7 years I’m looking forward to owning it 💻
Watching this on my 2015 MacBook pro 13". And it has been absolutely flawless the past 5 years and still is today. I finally upgraded to a 16" last week.. but I'm going to hold on to my 2015 for the day to day web browsing.
The passion for macbook ..so relatable..you earned a sub 👍👍
Watching this video on the same machine depicted in the video, the best computer I have used till now. Still works like a champ.
This was my first Mac too. I still use it everyday. Thanks for the review. Great video bro. 👌🙏
Upgrading next week from my 2012 15 inch to a 2015 15 inch, I refuse to ge any newer cause I need the ports. Ports!
‘ ports !
Watching this on my 13" 2015 Macbook Pro that has a dying battery, full SSD and a (nearly) broken power adapter. AND I STILL CAN'T PART WITH IT for a new laptop -.-
I've still got my 2009 MBP, it's 11yrs old this month (Sep '20)...still works totally fine for day-to-day basic work, and of course, watching TED vids ;)
dude. thank you sir, I just turned in my rental from college it was a surface and was like I gotta get a macbook and THIS confirmed which one I should get and why I should get it! thanks so much
Still using this laptop. It's still going strong for >5 years.
Great video! Picking one up next week!
Proud owner of one of these, absolutely still love it 6 years later. It's right around the time where it needs its battery replaced and the only thing I've changed this far is the ssd because 128 gigs just wasn't enough for me (I run macOS, Windows and Arch Linux on this so I need the extra space).
It not having a T2 chip is actually an advantage for me because trying out other operating systems is a thing I do often so having the freedom is great.
The glowing logo is something my peers see and go "How does it do that??" because it's been so long they forgot it existed.
The SD card slot is a godsend because I do stuff with Wiis and Raspberry Pis that sometimes need a full size SDXC slot.
I've even used thunderbolt a few times because I had an older firewire camcorder with miniDV tapes I needed to dump.
The trackpad size is smaller than the new ones but it's still force touch and the size is reasonable. I almost never use a mouse because I find it worse on this machine than the trackpad itself.
I just bought one from back market wish me luck
My everyday carrier since September 2015, the basic 13inch model! I love it, never let me down, will last until I graduate next year and the first work years (I hope 🙄). Only upgrades I’m going to do are the SSD and the battery (it has 840 circles).
been using it for 6 years, still going strong
I ordered this laptop today and it’s coming tommorow 👀, this video got me hyped 😌…
Congrats man it's 500k subs, ut you deserve more, 🤟
cheers 🍻
Watching this on my 2015 MacBook Pro 13. I just LOVE this laptop and I will keep it for at least another 2 years.
How's battery life
i'm using one right now. was considering and upgrade, so i'm glad i saw this!
I have used my 2015 MacBook Pro 13 inch for years. It works like a charm and im not planning on upgrading any time soon until the day it breaks.
I currently have this one, and bought it in 2015! It’s a great laptop. I’ve only changed the battery so far
It's amazing. I've got one for school. Unfortunately it is rather slow, but i remedied that by buying a 15 inch 2015 with a 2.8ghz i7, and Radeon graphics to replace my 13 inch 2.7 i5.
I have both, and it is so tempting to try and shunt the 2020 internals into my 2015 frame and getting the right drivers.
My favorite one other than my new 16 inch would have to be the mid-2012 13 inch. It was my first MBP and I took out the optical drive to add another SSD and bumped the ram to 16GB. It was awesome!!
Dang thats awesome, I never used one of those.
Did the exact same thing on mine... and still using it ;)
I love your videos bro, I like the tech content infusing some humor in it. I Just subscribed by the way
I just won one of these in a raffle yesterday 🙌🏽🙌🏽

Perfect video, need something affordable in this climate since I’m going back to school. Was wondering if I should get the 2015 model or a newer model from Amazon. And the video plus comments answered all my questions. Thanks a bunch!
We have one of these in the household exactly like this and I have no desire to upgrade. It’s just too easy for the family to use with all of those ports. The storage is not soldered to the motherboard either.
Right? Maybe I’ll see about doing some minor upgrades to this one if I can.
I'm looking to get this when I'm attending college
I just bought my Mac A1502 2015 from a specific service today. I just hope not to regret it.
Hey i am also thinking of buying one for 300 euros is it worth it?
now watching using my MACBOOK PRO 13" EARLY 2015....now i will change my mind on changing my Macbook
How's battery life
Still around 2 - 3 hrs of continues video o youtube
Still using one! We have 2 2015 MacBooks in the house along with a 2019 and the 2015 15 inch i7 gets so much use
My sister just upgraded to a early 2020 macbook pro last year and she gave me her early 2015 macbook pro which i love! She was having issues not being able to change her backround but once i cleaned it up givin it a refresh of catalina installed, it ran with no problems! Im definitely keeping this macbook pro for 4 more years.
After using a 2014 base model pro for a couple years. Pros are Mag safe, SD Card, HDMI. Cons pretty slow for video/ photo editing, fans turn on for no reason and are very loud. Would love to fully spec it out sometime. The M1 13" is the apple computer I've been waiting for. Its an absolute upgrade for everything. The only con is having to use adapters. But I still use my 2014 from time to time.
Mine sadly died a couple of weeks ago. The battery swoll up so badly that the chassis got damaged and the repair would have been pretty costly. So I definitively recommend replacing the battery first if you get one used now. But it’s been an amazing computer. But I’m also enjoying the new 13 inch now and love the 4 thunderbolt ports. Being able to choose the side on which you want to plug something in is almost better than having all those ports without dongles. :D
3:29: that face when you realize you’d sleep on the couch if you dropped the laptop.
I had this model (well, November 2014 version) for 6 years
Changed the battery once in 2019
Other than that it’s been faultless for what I’ve needed it for in that time - college work mostly, light working, video viewing, audio & video editing (Adobe Audition & iMovie), Virtual DJ, etc
Started a marketing agency in early 2021 and upgraded to the 2021 M1 Pro 13
The 2014 13 Pro is still going though! I wiped it and completely reset it and gave it to my GF who hasn’t really ever had any decent laptop (bar a beyond shitty acer notebook for college)
The 2014 works absolutely faultlessly still for her
It’s on BigSur, runs her CAD design programmes perfectly, allows her to create & edit documents, etc
Much like everything from that era (iPhone 5, for example) the 2014/15 MacBook Pro 13 is a perfect laptop
If I could have updated the chip & ram myself (I’m not techy so I wouldn’t risk it) I’d have kept it, but I needed the phenomal M1 power for my new work
I have no doubt the 2014 will last my GF at LEAST another 3-5 years and I’m delighted it’s staying in the family because I couldn’t bare to sell it to someone else
i still use this for editing too , absolute monster . creating ecosystem with my iphone xr and apple watch series 2 . i couldn't afford any new 😄
Exactly the same as me😆❤
Totally agree bro! It's a crime that they've been able to get away with removing basically all the ports from the computers! You forgot the optical drive from earlier models as well though! Those things aren't cheap to buy separately! They should definitely offer a 'pimp my ride' service for older models to get the current/close to current internals! That would be sweet!
This is also the first MacBook that I have owned and I LOVEEE it so much. I have had it for 5 years and it still works perfectly fine for me.
Same !! Same exact Mac I own and plan to have it for a long time . Love the ports :)
I still have the 15.6" version and use it for my everyday work. And judging by all the problems which later on models faced, this probably was the last perfect MacBook according to me (Read: magsafe, ports, great keyboard!)
Now it’s great again!
I have a 2015 Pro that i got in late 2015. I still use is today. I love it.
Still rocking that exact macbook pro as my main machine
I have the exact one, overall happy experience and not gonna upgrade to a newer one just yet, but had to change the battery twice due to swelling.
I have exactly the same MacBook pro as you have. Still a great laptop to use for now.
Ditto, I have the 2015 15 inch. I always set the backlighting of the keys to 1. It lights the keys nicely but NOT the gaps around the edges.
Me too!
I have the 2014 mbp and it's still hanging in there, considering the fact that I edit videos on it heavily, I am surprised it still works like a charm!
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015). I bought it in January 2016 and it's still running like new.
The Ralph Macchio of computer tech. Great video! I’m still video editing on my 2012 dell inspiron and it’s awful, but I get it done. Maybe an upgrade to a 2015 MacBook Pro will be in the future.
Always enjoy your videos! They help out a lot. I'm going to own my sister's MacBook 2015 13", but I can not find any accessories videos with this laptop. I do understand that it is an older piece of tech but are there any accessories I should get for this? Thanks guys
My first Mac was a 2012 13”, and I’m still using it to this day. 😂the stuff I have to do isn’t very intensive, so it’s perfectly fine for me. I’m definitely thinking about getting a used 2019 16” though
Did you get it in the meanwhile?
I've been using my mid-2015 MBP 2013every single day ever since I bought it in August 2015
my first MacBook which I bought in June for my birthday is a 2012 MacBook Pro but I agree with the video and happy to see you are doing used videos :D
Nice retro trip. This was my first MBP and still going strong. It’s great for importing SD card photos and videos. It drives 2 Dell P2715Q 4K monitors and works fine with a Rodecaster Pro set up too. I still connect the DVD drive to get near lossless CD music imports. I also use it to remotely conduct a male voice choir using Zoom. Yes the webcam could be higher res but it’s good at adjusting for the lighting conditions even compared to a new external Microsoft webcam.
I only just invested in a top end MBP i9 16 inch for its bigger screen for editing on the go and rendering 4K. That is amazing, especially the mic, speakers and huge trackpad. A few of my family members are eyeing up the old machine but I’m hanging onto it. It’s ideal for travelling, coffee shop work (when it gets back to normal) and importing photo and video files to free up my SD cards.
Like it’s owner, old does not mean kna**erd.
I'm a heavy Windows user, but I keep this generation Macbook Pro for years and never thought about selling it. It's just such a lovely device. Amazing Hardware.
Watching this review of the 2015 macbook pro on my 2015 macbook pro... meta dude.
You Are Amazing ❤️❤️, Keep Going please 💪💪
I feel much the same about my 2013 model. Have you torn it apart to clean it up and reapply thermal paste? I’m only moderately skilled and found the task relatively easy, also noticing thermal improvement afterwards.
I haven’t but maybe thats something I’ll do over the weekend.
I just updated the battery and did the thermal paste yesterday on my 2014 15” MBP. A lot easier than you’d think. And it fixed the trackpad that was not working properly as well.
Stephen Hunt Nice! I changed the battery, replaced the thermal paste, added ram, and popped in an SSD into my 2011, and my Daughter couldn’t be happier with it! I finally broke down and bought myself a 2020 13 “ MBP that will be here Thursday, but I’m so proud that my 2011 still has life!
TryMyMartini Changing to the SSD makes so much difference
In 2023 I’m currently in between jobs and had to hop back from the 2021 16” M1 Pro version of the macbook being reviewed in this video to my dusty 2014 15” MacBook Pro. We can now install Ventura on these old macs but I am missing the usb c ports.
I am pc user and buying it today for development, your video just made my choce right. ty
Amen to that! Too bad mine is getting way too slow for any kind of Photoshop. But overall im extremely happy with mine. Waiting for the new 14” and I will upgrade
This is exactly my editing computer. Final Cut struggles as soon as I start adding any type of transitions or text. It really slows me down during editing but I’m grateful I can still edit and upload to UA-cam. I’m planning on changing the stock 128gb and replace it with a Samsung Evo 1TB. I currently edit of two USB 3 Pioneer SSDs on a USB hub and they’re configured in RAID0 with almost 1GB/s transfer speeds which makes editing easier even if it’s not on the internal SSD.
What size of footage do you edit ? Full hd ? 4k?
I have the MacBook 2015 15 inch 16gig i7 I upgraded my SSD to a 2TB my MacBook Pro is a beast.
If the trackpad isn’t clicking properly, the battery is likely a bit swollen. A change of battery will fix that.
Yes, I think its the last perfect MacBook is the 15inch model, I'm still using it for work, no thermal throttling like the new generation, it works like a charm!
I bought mine a year ago on Swappa. 13", 2.9 ghz dual-core i5, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD. I love this thing! I'm an accounting major so it's easier for me to have Windows but I run Parallels when I have to use the Windows verison of the Microsoft Office Suite or other applications. It handles everything effortlessly. I would like to get a new MacBook with the M1 chip but I need to wait until Parallels is ready... Even though I'm not entirely sure I'll make the leap. This laptop just does everything right!
Quick quick which spec's do you recommend getting? I followed your link to Amazon and they have a couple different options. Was just wondering which one you guys have. It's not listed in the description of your video.
It's was the best Macbook pro made. I put the 27" iMac from late 2013 in the same category. Both go for premium $ still on eBay.
the resolution of this too was ahead of its time
This is my MacBook it’s been amazing for everything other than video editing 😍❤️
I love your vids! Can you make a 2020 13 inch MacBook Pro vs 2015 13 inch MacBook Pro? Thanks
I have a macbook pro 16 but I still keep coming back this 13in 2015 MBP. Also I have two of the same models coz I love them so muchh
I bought one with 256GB a few months ago for school! (Senior in HS right now) and it's perfectly capable for everything that I have it to do! Only thing holding it back for me I would say is the 8GB of RAM, which soon is not going to be enough but right now it's perfect! Best bang for your buck!
6 years later and it's still doing the job :)
To be honest, all I ever use laptops for is writing, reading, watching youtube, talking to people, and research, with a small amount of photo and video editing, having my old Thinkpad and now a second machine in this mac is pretty much perfect, all my power hungry tasks are done at my desktop.
So cool watching this video in November 2021. I guess you got more than you could have hoped for with the MBP M1 Max.
My base 2015 MPB 13 inch Has been my work horse for 5 Years. The little dual core with 8gb of ram is starting to show its age for what I need.
I upgraded to an IPad Pro for my photography work now.
The screen on my 2015 baby no longer works either but that was by accident a few days ago. Till then it was still my main computer.
I have the 13 inch 2015 awesome computer however I decided to upgrade to the Macbook Pro M1 and the performance really is night and day but that glowing logo is awesome it feels old school. The M1 is a lot faster and smoother but from time to time I do use my 2015 for fun still works.
Just bought one, I hope it’s as good as you say, just need to do some decent photo editing, which my iPad won’t do. Cheers, you make it sound even better than I thought it would!
So far, how its going for you? Is good for video and photo editing?
@@meluisguevara yes it's good

If my 6s plus could have a longer battery life I would never think about upgrading...2015 was a great year for Apple..
I have the same model and haven't had the inclination to upgrade. Maybe next year....we'll see.
