Glad u are better. Scary stuff.
The singer with the mowhawk and the lead guitarist made a band several years ago before Jesse rejoined Kill Switch. The guitarist had back surgery. So this one off album has lots of Spiritual innuendo? How to say it. Under lining. And some is very forward. I think its an album you will really like especially since you liked Signal fire. I LOVE THIS ALBUM. And sadly they are likely to never tour it.. any way here it is Times Of Grace - Hymn of a Broken Man: ua-cam.com/play/PLz_VdN51lS8YujH7Ezfti8xljS3OiD6b3.html

Okay so let's set the KsE history straight because people are being lazy about it lmao. Jesse, the dude that started screaming, is their OG vocalist. He was in the band in their first 2 records. Then he left and Howard Jones, the second dude, joined the band. With Howard Jones, the band reached unimaginable recognition and success. They headlined huge festivals, they released some of their best material and to this day the last album Jesse did before he left the band, and the next two albums they did with Howard Jones are considered some of the best modern metal/metalcore albums period. And because of that, Killswitch Engage became very recognized, some even argue the best metalcore band ever.
Howard Jones left the band because of mental health issues as touring was taking a toll on him and I think he was diagnosed with diabetes too which it is said he beat and is healthier than ever. So of course, lately they all reconnected and Howard has come up on stage with them live and now they recorded this song. So this Howard Jones feature is a huge thing for us metalcore/KsE fans.

The Christian themes present in a lot of Killswitch's songs and Adam and Jesse's other band, Times of Grace, have been questioned by many, including myself. I feel like I hear it at every turn. Their music is so dark and heavy, but the themes and lyrics always have seemed so bright and hopeful to me. I always find a positive message in it. It's crazy to me that they can have such a brutal song with such beautiful content. That's one of the many things I love about these guys! And I appreciate you going through the lyrics and pointing this stuff out because so many would hear the top layer of this music and label it as "devil music" and the like. (Obviously you're a fan of this type of music, but still, it's refreshing!)

    • @clayman41
      @clayman41 3 роки тому +8

Times of Grace was going to be my suggestion as well. Still has the soul of Killswitch, but wrapped up in a different package with heavy overlay in biblical messages. The title track to Hymn of A Broken Man would be a good introduction.

Your channel showed up in my feed a few days ago and I have been binge watching all your videos since. I finally made it to the end and I cannot wait for more! I have heard so many new artists and songs from this channel and they are starting to fill up my playlist! I can't afford to support you financially, but I have been telling everyone I think would be interested about your channel and sending them links. Thank you so much for what you are doing with this channel. It makes me happy to see people so open-minded about music and not just immediately jumping to the conclusion that metal is evil. I don't know many people in my area who are willing to give it a chance and actually listen to the message that bands like Demon Hunter and We Came as Romans are preaching. So thank you for giving them a chance and showing people that Christian music can come in more flavors than what people normally think of. And thank you for sharing the gospel in your videos. People need to hear it, as you quoted a while back: faith comes by hearing. Keep up the good work. I'm sure it isn't always easy. I am really happy to hear that your wife has won her war with cancer and that you are feeling better as well. Also, this might be weird to mention, but I love the beard on pastor Rob and the hair on both Rob and Gauge. You guys look good.

I feel like any well written song can be interpreted and related too in so many ways so I appreciate your perspective and interpretation of the lyrics. When I hear this song, the references to separating from the past and also leading us away from the past reminds me of the internal duality of man and our internal fight of good vs evil and our struggle and objective to find our true selves and seperate ourselves from past forms as individuals that we don't love. So the part about seperating from our past is a big component of my interpretation.
In addition, to me the signal fire is not a sign of war like you mentioned but a sign of hope and the fire is the light at the end of the tunnel. "Hope just in sight, our signal fires alight"... that hope of not caving into our struggles of our past selves that we are trying to overcome and to find that inner fight and spirit to keep pushing towards the signal fire and the light at the end of the tunnel. I do think the signal fire portion of it represents "the uphill battle" at the top of the mountain that our journey represents as we atone for ourselves internally and move towards the light to a brighter future.
Obviously very difficult to explain through words, but just a few thoughts of what comes to mind when I listen to this song. For anyone out there who continues to struggle in their fight, just know that you're not alone in your struggles... I am with you, Howard is with you, Jesse is with you... always keep walking and pushing towards that signal fire and a new light.

When the original singer Jesse left years ago Howard stepped in and ushered in a new era for Killswitch Engage. And a few years later Howard stepped out and Jesse came back. Howard is the feature in the song as you see him walking in grabbing the mic. It was a special moment and try to portray with this song welcoming him back To jam on a new track with them.

This song is about facing and overcoming suicidal thoughts. Both Howard and Jesse went through some hard times, Jesse with some bipolar and depression issues and Howard with social anxiety and depression. So the band thought it was a good idea to have both singers write a song about the issues they went through, and Signal Fire is the result.

My Last Serenade is a good early song to check out. The vocalist that started the song (Jesse) is the original vocalist who left the band at one point and the 2nd vocalist (Howard) is the one that replaced him at the time and is known for doing some of their most successful songs. Howard left and then Jesse returned to the band. They basically got everyone together for this song.

As plenty of people have mentioned, the second vocalist, Howard Jones, was the frontman for KsE for a number of years after Jesse left early in their career. That fist bump between the two of them during the guitar solo? It's SO significant and represents so much more that what it seems on the surface. I'm a HoJo fan myself, not big on Jesse's style, but that's all opinion; the FACT is that KsE is one of the best metalcore bands to hit mainstream success. Personal favorite tunes that I would love to see you guys react to:
    The Arms of Sorrow
    This Fire
    Eye Of the Storm
... basically anything from "As Daylight Dies"
Added note: as a semi-practicing Christian (read: bad Christian, lol), I appreciate what you guys are doing, and the depth to which you dive into these songs. My faith has been really shaky for a lot of years, and it's refreshing to see you practicing the Great Commission in its purest form, and reaching out as equally and without judgement as you can. Major kudos, and bigger thanks.
