Love this! As somebody somewhat learned in bluegrass/folk mandolin, and wanting to get back into playing, it's excellent to hear the other things a mandolin can do! Also, my one-year-old son started dancing as soon as I turned this on :D
Mandolins evolved from the Lute family in Italy during the seventeenth and eighteenth ... The original instrument was the mandola (mandorla is "almond" in Italian).
@@KayKoharu As attractive as this theory is, it is anything but fact. Mandòla derives from the Greek (and later Latin) pandoura, an ancestor of the "bouzouki", while mándorla comes form Gk amygdalon > Lat amygdalum.

Actually the word "mandolin" derives from the Latin "mandolinum," which roughly translates to "doesn't stay in tune"
