wow! ashley is a GREAT host! GREAT questions. watched maybe 40 videos of hayden (this channel and his other channel) and she got more out of him in one video than alot of them combined. you should get ashley to interview jordan and have her rotate with jordan and hayden in the future. great work!

I'm really glad you mentioned the importance of sfx and music. Cutting up a song to fit timing or adding some sound effects manually to give some depth is something I do often in the stuff I work on. Sound design can't make the cut but it can absolutely legitimize it.

This dude has been my editing inspiration since I joined the folks at "Creator Now" at the start of this year. Granted I have not practiced as much as him in the field, mostly due to my focus on developing my journey through motorsports. But that said, I love learning from him any sort of way I can to improve my content and my understanding of what the best edit I can make for the stories I want to tell. It's been amazing learning from him and I hope to learn more from him this next year.

@@LegendaryLife Dude, "Creator Now" is the best! We work with other creators throughout the world and get some wonderful lessons from some of the top creators on UA-cam and TikTok. I first came in when they focused on shorts and it's been the biggest strength of my fairly new channel today. Although my long form has much to be desired, I know I have a ton of recourses and like minded people to connect with and help improve my stuff as much as possible. Many of them will become lifelong friends and do wonders in sharing a passion for content creation. Now is really the best time to get in because they're now doing an annual service at the same cost as 1, 6 week bootcamp. You'll save more while learning and earning much more than before. If you're on the fence about "Creator Now," don't be! Go and get signed up! You'll absolutely love it!

@@LegendaryLife Don't fret. If you have a means of saving around $300 throughout the year, I'd suggest that you do that. If not, then see if you and any other creator friends can pool your resources together to pay for it. Hillier's advice and perspective is as always gold. I love the idea of juxtaposing a funny visual with serious music and vice versa. This channel has been super helpful for understanding what high quality editing should be. However, some tips are more applicable to vlog-travel-style content. I would love to hear more on editing educational or video essay-style videos. How do you tell a story about, for example, the history of something or someone's biography. Thanks 😊

I’m still an amateur editor and this is one of my best motivational channels to watch. I’m also a student of storytelling and a fan of Hayden’s method and by no means an expert.
As a third party viewer I react with what I experienced from this interview:
**If a ring hasn’t already been given it’s 100% coming soon. I totally expected a proposal at the end of the video.**
In pure YT fashion I don’t know if that was to prove the point to poke at the creator from the editor being a voice in the final product, but bravo on that aspect.
Three strong hints placed through the edit are NEVER happenstance as what makes the Final Cut is calculated.
At the end of the day that part of your lives is not my business, but if that was an intended thread in the edit, she totally wants you to ask bro.
    All the best regardless.

Just remember folks, when we were editing on windows movie maker way back when, older editors were thinking "wow the young generation has access to tools that can get there ideas going right away"--huffing and puffing they didn't have those tools when they were younger. I grew up in the dv camera and windows movie maker days as well--and was told constantly how lucky we were to have access to these tools. It's all relative. Yes, people today are showing impressive skills sooner--but i would argue at the end of the day, a tool is a tool. Creativity still has to come into play despite what tool you have. Story still has to come into play. A creator's voice still has to be honed. That just takes time and living a life to fill stories with.

Pro Tips: There IS a "UA-cam Cut style."
    0) Watch this twice. Blessings to Ashley and Hillier.
    1) Audience is looking for Efficiency. Audience is looking to click off from the start. It's not "retention", it's efficiency. Be efficient in the edit. Efficiency = No friction. Easy to engage in. Respecting your audience. Don't Beg the audience to stay. "Is this Easy watch?"
    2) The Editor is a character in the video. Self-awareness. New Editors/Creators don't get this until later.
    3) The "UA-cam Cut style." Make fun of it, them. Let others/memes speak for you. Efficiency Editing, retention editing but what are we doing?
    4) Express your humor. Being it British and/or otherwise.
    5) Spend More time on sound than you think. Silence is important too. Let events speak for themselves. Musical/Sound choices make feeling. Editing Music, make it shorter, finding important parts. Sound and Music tells you how to feel.
    6) Process. a) Cut to the usable material. b) choose the cuts on the timeline. c) arrange. d) get a feel. e) sound. f) bang it out. g) finalize, the draft. h) wait. then do version 2.
    7) Stylistic Editing: Jokes by editing. Dialog to motivate cuts. Pacing. Feeling.
    8) Triangle: x) Emotion is a priority in every cut. Emotionally available. Story telling is from the heart. How does the cut feel? Getting an emotional response. Emotional intelligence. Discover what this is for you. Emotional maturity to express it. How do you feel? Let it effect you. y) z)
    9) Get out of your own way. Nothing is as it seems. The way you think it is, It's not. The Taoist Flow.

When Hayden talked about the *click* in his mind when he was going through Logan's Pokemon card buying spree, thinking, "OH! When you talk about learning to edit from films like Hot fuzz and snatch, they are some of the movies that I connect with which made me want to make films in the first place. The editing style of Edgar Wright is basically what made me think more about editing in films, it isn't just putting clips together on the timeline, its thinking about story and sound more then just learning after effects.
Also with the hardrive full of sound effects. Made me think should I start doing that? Will this save me time in the future? Is this viable? But my real question is. Should I?
