That's the reality you live in. Start to change your thoughts and start believing that there is no gender difference when it comes to seeking help. It's your mind that tells you otherwise. Change your thoughts, Change your reality.
@@LivingtheChinalife Well, I get that your suggestion is well meaning and I appreciate it, but that's not how practical life works. Gender is first identifier of a person and gender expectations are very real and natural. If one does a practical video of a girl and a boy asking for help in a public setting over a broad sample size, you'll know what different responses are elicited by gender expectations. It is okay if you disagree, but I'll have to hold on the larger reality here. 🙏🏼 Again, I do not think there's anything wrong in asking for help. Just a little difficult for men to get it without being judged for it.
If I talk about gender, being a female, the only expectation my parents had of me is to cook and get married. They didn't even allowed me to go to China. In their eyes, what will I even do to earn money, I should either depend on my father or husband to earn money. And THIS IS A VERY PRACTICAL WORLD I AM TALKING ABOUT. A lot of women's dreams get crushed because of this practical reality. However, in my thoughts and reality, I never accepted it. I wanted to be someone, I wanted to be able to depend on myself, experience life, and live in China. If I would have accepted your PRACTICAL REALITY, you wouldn't be seeing my video. So, practical life works as per how you want it to work for you. Not society.
@@LivingtheChinalife See that's what I am saying but the emotions elicited by breaking these societal expectations are very different. For a girl to do all of these great things is very empowering. It might even boost one's self confidence in doing so. For a man to break gender norms is never empowering, infact it is emasculating. The truth of the matter is things that are considered 'strong' have always been things that men have done. A woman can break her gender roles and feel empowered, if a man breaks it, it is not empowerment. I am glad you shared your female perspective, which I respect and appreciate. I just wish you don't discard mine in the process. Thanks.
I hear you. I see you. I respect your opinion and where you are coming from. However, I will still encourage you to create a different reality for yourself, where men aren't discouraged to break conventional norms. Tbh, I still don't get respect at my home for my empowerment. It's only in the outside world that I get that recognition. So I still fight with being okay, even if my own family doesn't see my worth. Me talking all this is not disregarding or disrespecting your opinion. It's as valid. However, please start believing, you can change, your reality can change and everything is deep rooted in your conditioning & thoughts. Bring the awareness and acceptance that you can change the way people treat you or see you, if you seek help or break conventional norms.
You are such an amazing story teller!! And your video is filled with so much important information. This is literally a gold mine for new students coming to China!
If you do not have so many luggages, yon can take bus/metro in Nanjing at much cheaper price. If you are not sure about the price, just keep the receipt from taxi driver and take a picture of their car plate in case a fake taxi. Then you can query it by calling local 物价局(Price Bureau)to query if cost is reasonable. If it differs too much, use the receipt to ask for compensation. Finally, User left China several years ago because Didi beats them and all Uber customers belong to Didi. And Didi is relatively cheaper than taxi because taxi drivers need to pay cost to their companies while not by Didi.
Hey, You are absolutely right about this. A lot my european friends could only come with 20kg baggage so they too metro only. However, because I had the liberty to bring more stuff and I believe if someone comes for a year or two year, they will bring more stuff. Taxi will be the best option. . I really appreciate the information on Price bureau thing. I will keep in mind for next time. Thank you:)
I am sorry you were scammed of more than 100 RMB (about $13). The distance from Sydney airport to downtown is about 13 miles. Taxi fare is about A$100. I took the shuttle and dropped me a block from my destination. Still cost quite a bit, A$20. On my return I took an Uber, cost A$32 (US$ 23).
Some universities don’t allow 🚕 to enter campus. Poor girl, those residential buildings were probably built 20 years ago and usually have 6 floors. They were not built with elevators. We had to drag our luggage onto the fifth floor before an elevator was recently installed in our building.
There are places in China's airports and train stations where you can wait for taxis, where you can be assured that you will not be deceived. Don't take the black car (a car without operating qualifications) that takes the initiative to pick up. In addition, there are special online car waiting spots at airports and train stations. Make a good time appointment on the app. You can get on the car at the online car waiting spot, and Didi can take a car online.
Sorry for this unfortunate experience. Next time, find some Chinese friends and ask about some dos and don'ts. Some folks just want to take advantage of new comers. Shame on them! Be careful of Didi as well. Always remember to tell a close friend of the Didi plate number and the route.
200 CNY is too expensive for your taxi, which is good for 100 km journey! Oh,you took a black taxi! It's too dangerous for a girl to take a black taxi!

Girls can ask strangers for help, and it'll be all cute. When a man asks for it, I'll be frowned upon.
