"Work these rush hours for me" haha!! Bodie's talking like he's running a car wash or some sh3t!
Sound like hes working 5:30pm rush hour at burger king.
Joel Johnson they had to systematically plan how they would kill Bodie because they knew it wasn’t going to be easy whatsoever
@Joel Johnson but he wasn't on Marlo's package yet
@Joel Johnson that's true but it happened down the road. Later in the episode Marlo gives Bodie the ultimatum take his package or step off.
@Joel Johnson Damn right he wouldn't have. I'm guessing he's had Chris Partlow with him for a long time keeping him safe. It's probably what made Marlo so confident.
Important to remember why Michael has absolute contempt for the users - he's seen what his mother became by being one, and what ended up happening to him because of it.
Good observation
Jessica Marie I don’t think dukie was using at that point yet, just helping the fiend with the horse for a few extra bucks. But he was definitely well on his way by staying with that guy.
My god you're deep
Probably the same for Bodie as well remember in the first Season when D had aksed him why he acted like that when he was being extra harsh on a fiend for asking for testers.
And thats why Michael always befriended Dukie and stood up for him because he was trying to save Dukie from his own mom's fate (junkie).
This scene parallels the scene in season 1 when the same thing happened to Wallace and he got confused with who was supposed to get what and almost got scammed with that fake money for the second time
I always thought that scene was a little out of character for Wallace bc he was a smart kid (see: Hamilton wasn't no President).
@@nowayjose596 eh history and math are different, makes sense wallace can't do calculations but for a class like history where you're just told facts, he can remember that
@@sangun123 It's not even that Wallace couldn't do calculations, I mean that one kid went to him for help with his math homework. It's that Wallace couldn't handle pressure. He cracked easily. Doesn't matter how smart you are if you break down when pushed.

Michael commanded respect just for being good at what he did and being a stand-up guy. One of the more underrated characters of the show.
+Dre I wouldnt say Mike was underrated on the show. They showed a lot of him and ended the series with him.
Adolf Kitler I guess I meant as a general character favourite on the entire show. Mcnulty, Omar, Avon, Stringer, Bodie and occasionally Clay Davis gets a mention lol not really the kids. Maybe it's just me, it's just something I've noticed.

Yeah, they did have a lot of characters. Not even forgetting the port guys from season 2. So I guess he could be overlooked.

Facts 😂😂😂
Bodie was a naturally good soldier. He also did a good job and putting together a 'small business', turning his obscure corner into success. He learned well from "D' how to manage a corner. Where he struggled was recruiting good talent and muscle. If he had been able to recruit a couple 'Michaels" he might have been able to survive the Marlo-era.
+mikem987 He was mad loyal, but his bullheaded-ness got em killed, unfortunately.
+mikem987 he might have been able to survive the Marlo-era if he didn't talked small talk with the po-lice
yeah but looks at who he's up against..Marlo's crew had armor, numbers, strategy that looked like SWAT tactics..plus they were sociopaths..nah Body never stood a chance even Omar as brave as he was knew he couldn't beat em head up.
***** true but Bodie's intelligence and Street Wits were top Notch, only thing holding him back was his Quickness to be frustrated and angry
Uchiha Gilberto That is true about his anger. It sort of blocked him going to the next level. When Slim Charles tried to give him some sage advice about how to deal with the Marlo-era, he rebuffed him. He didn't have the cerebral, street-smarts of a Slim Charles or a Cutty, who seemed to find alternative solutions, while in the middle of 'the game'.

This scene shows the difference between Wallace and Michael in terms of the street. Wallace wasn't made for that life and struggled with it. Michael definitely was, which is why Bodie was so happy.
One wasn't made for it, but tried to force it upon himself. The other was trying to get away from it, but was a natural.

Bodie basically named every career you MUST go to school for lol
Yo I peep that and the irony is a black man would have a hard time succeeding in those fields due to discrimination and low key racism
That's literally the point. He's mocking him for wanting to go to school.
@@viewmaster617 Naw, with as much Affirmative Action going on these days, he'd make it.
This comment confuses me. It's not like he was being subtle or there was deeper meaning behind what he said. He was literally just asking him why he wanted to go to school then listing jobs that he could get with a degree? That's like commenting "lol, when Michael calls the guy 'blue shirt' he's saying that because the guy is literally wearing a blue shirt"
@@non_brewed_condiment The reason for the incredulous response to that scene is due to the fact that it's Bodie specifically making such a specific statement, since he stated just jobs that needed extensive hours of studying and work to obtain.
In retrospect, a likely High-School Dropout Baltimore Drug Dealer would not be expected to be so specific, it's similar to Bubbles and Omar and all their statements on philosophy and such when in reality they're just a fiend and killer respectively.
Michael was the obvious star of the corner kids, he had brains, and heart to go with it. Something about Michael seemed like he was bright enough to understand that everything isn't what it seems, and it must be a reason for things; like at times Michael was the adult amongst the other kids.

The idea of walking around Baltimore as the guy known ONLY as...No Shirt. 😂😂😂
i dont think that was his name lmaooo
You need to rethink what putting a hand on me is gonna get you a great line
This scene is very important and sad at the same time. The importance is the fact Michael paid attention to details which showed his ability to focus. The sadness is that those abilities were wasted in the streets and Bodie discouraging him from going to school and doing something better in life. We see how it all played out, Bodie is killed and Michael winds up a killer and doing stick ups which eventually will get him incarcerated and or killed.
I like to think Michael makes it for 2 reasons. 1) He was really smart. Remember Omar only gets done in the end because he loses his focus and cool, opting for revenge when he was already "Out" of the game. 2) The real life Omar was based on Donnie Andrews, who played Donnie and eventually got out of the game for real
@@chriswelcome8102 He won't make it, he's a killer and a now he's robbing players in the game. His fate is sealed. His only option is to try and get as much money as possible, as fast as possible, get his little brother and get out of Baltimore because if he stays he will eventually be killed.
Whatever, mong
@@chriswelcome8102 Only one thing to say to that: "be a little slow, be a little late... and how you gon never be slow? never be late?"
I promise you there were 10 Donnie Andrews with comparable smarts and natural talent, they just didn't live long enough to tell the tale. When they were still learning the ropes of sticking up stash houses, I'm sure they all made a mistake or two. These weren't CIA-trained operatives, they were kids figuring it out as they went along. And Donnie ended up going to prison 17 years, voluntarily, because of how deeply traumatized he was from all the people he killed. So he's not really a counterexample of someone ending up incarcerated or killed by following that path.

Possibly a throwback to season 1, but notice how the drug dealers sell drugs. Someone gets paid then sends them around the corner to be served by someone else. When D'Angelo first arrived at The Pit he noticed how the way they were selling drugs was all wrong and changed it up. The Pit ended up doing good business under D'Angelo as well. I like to think that maybe Bodie learned from D'Angelo and it still implementing some of things he learned from him at The Pit.

I like the way he portrayed a middle manager...just overall pretty cool but wanting everyone to keep their numbers up. He was in the business for a long time but never managed to really make it. Kind of an "everyman" type - just dealing the cards he was dealt and trying his best to avoid problems. If I saw JD Williams in public I don't think there would be anything wrong with talking to him as long as I was discreet and didn't make a big deal out of it.
I love how poot got out of the game and started working at a shoe store, he might have sold weed on the side or was straight clean. He survived marlo era by being smart, he was a nobody and could've worked with bodie but he knew marlo and went to work payless for minimum wage marlo didn't even think about him. Bodie on the other hand knew nothing else
He was still in the game after Bodie's death. He went to the shoe store later.
The show demonstrates how otherwise clever and ambitious people fall into the game. Michael is clever and wants to go to school but he doesn't have an answer for Bodie - he's cognizant that the school is rubbish and futile. The thought that he could become an astronaut to be dramatic, or a doctor/lawyer has already been stripped and he recognizes it.
It's true tho. School is rubbish. Not saying you gotta be a drug dealer lol but there are lots of better things to do with your time than school.
@@MishaElRusitoit can be rubbish
@@MishaElRusito go ahead and drop out of high school and see where it gets you then. Ignore the statistics.
Like if you want to skip college and go straight into the workforce, that's cool, for some people that's the move- for others it's definitely a waste- but not even getting a high school degree? That'll close a lot of doors, and those doors are worth more than whatever a kid in his mid-teens is gonna do with that free time.
@@threenumbnuts I dropped out of school and am doing just fine. Never had a job, always worked for myself, learning new skills and providing services to people whether it's translation or video editing or filming etc. Depends on your passion. But if you know what you wanna do in life at an early age, school after 5-7th grade is a waste of time, you'd be better off working on your craft and making money than learning sines and cosines
@@MishaElRusito Sines and cosines let you figure out the proportion between real life distances based on angles. So you actually can use that for filming- positioning lights and cameras relative to what you're trying to film- among other things. And yo, good for you if you're doing things you like, but if an 11-year-old 5th grade graduate is telling me he for sure knows what he wants to do, I ain't believing him. In some scenes they really made drug dealing sound like any other jib: like bodie talking about "rush hours", or Marlo telling fruit his numbers are down. Not to mention Stringer's Co-op experiment, with meetings conducted by Robert's Rules of Order.
All businesses follow the same core elements. If it's in the streets or in a corporation. At the roots of it all you gonna find certain similarities. Thus, if these kids in the projects had the same environment as well to do kids in the suburbs, they'd be working as accountants and businessmen.
In a lot of ways it is like any other job. It's just the illegality of the business means that the nature of its competition is harsher. Micheal isn't keeping the count, he's a runner in this scene.
Basic setup:
1 - Chief: In charge of the corner, pays everyone, calls the shots, reports to senior members of the organisation unless the crew is independent.
2 - Count: Takes the customers money and sends them around to be served, keeps track of the money, usually 2nd in command to the boss.
3 - Runner: Fetches the drugs where they're stashed and serves the customer, adds degree of separation to the transaction.
4 - Stash: Guards the drugs where they're kept.
5 - Lookout: Watches out for police and stick up crews, rivals gangs. Sometimes on a bike, usually quite young.
6 - Muscle: Backup if required to hold a corner.
