This week’s film breakdown analyzes the Indianapolis Colts run game and their Running Back Jonathan Taylor. The second-year back has exploded on the field setting multiple records, and the Colts are one of the hottest teams in the NFL with their sights set on the playoffs. Frank Reich, the offensive line, the skill position players and Taylor have all come together to create one of the deadliest ground games in the league, which begs the question: what makes them so dynamic? This week’s episode uses the all-22 coaches film to analyze the Indianapolis Colts running game and their sensational Running Back Jonatahn Taylor.

But with how often he has been hurt, he absolutely has been a terrible pick as the Giants are still exactly where they have been for 5 years.

I haven't heard anyone point out his pre-snap intelligence before. Spot on. This kid beats the 8th man before the snap more often than not. The next thing is his vision as the play develops. then there's this unteachable ability to appear to be accelerating in one direction, yet is actually preparing to cut in the other. He uses it to fool 'backers and safeties regularly and I've never seen anything like it in my life aside from like Sanders highlights and LT.

Thanks Randal. There's so much more than just the physicality and speed, he's a special player for many reasons beyond that. You're definitely right about his vision midplay, that 49ers run was a great example

I didn't really get to talk about their weaknesses, but I do worry about the drop back passing game. I'm not sure they have the weapons to win outside, and if Wentz is consistent enough on straight drop back passing situations. They had some nice conversions today however

He was a stud at Wisconsin day 1. There was a practice highlight in camp where he took it to the house. Right then every Badger fan got excited. We've had a ton of great backs come through Wisconsin but you just KNEW he was different.
We felt the same way about TJ Watt. They were both obvious talents that for some pretty idiotic reasons didn't go as high in the drafts as they should have.
JT could have went to Harvard. We knew he was elite level intelligence. He dominated in track so we knew he had elite speed. Then when you got to see him on the field it was clear pretty quickly he was going to be a stud NFL back with his vision and patience..
He's always improving and he's insanely durable. He's just scratching the surface.

Yeah I'm pretty good at seeing things developing in the run game. The amount of times RB end up trying to get something going threw the wrong hole is horrible. When i was young i didn't like Shawn Alexander but that dude was special for a huge dude as well, his vision for the cut back was second to none. When JT knew to stay the course in the left B gap when most would try and bounce that outside for no gain was special.

Their running back coach said it best: "He's literally one cut away on every run to take it to the house, no matter where he's at on the field." The Colts o-line are incredible at pushing into the next level, and JT's veteran like patience behind that leaves him one cut away from being gone. Aside from that, most backs after making an agility move or cut, are more off balance and usually go down to contact because they're not strong enough, but JT can make a cut and stay insanely strong throughout it, so he stays on his feet and keeps going. He's just a rare talent that has every single quality to be a complete back.

Exactly best edge you can give yourself is being the first to buck the trend successfully. With so many teams getting lighter/ faster at every level the best thing you can do is go back to a smash mouth and solid defense type of team. As long as your qb doesn't hold you back with turn overs you can win this way again. I miss the days of full back, i formation, under center offense though. Can't stand all this shotgun runs, the inside hand off used to be a give up play on 3rd and 16, now it's the staple of the NFL?
