FACTS! Bellcow ball is over since tackling forms have improved, and offensive line play has been on a decline due rule changes, hope that's what we do with Zeke and TP, with some CD outside plays sprinkled in
Reality is Zeke just isn't that good and he never was. He got super overhyped because the Cowboys had one of the best offensive lines in the history of the NFL. Take that away and he's just average... Pollard a 4th round pick is just better and has been ever since the Cowboys drafted him that tells you all you need to know.
@@DoPtRiGGa your tripping, no running back is good with out their o line, Henry has always had a good oline, and once they started getting hurt last year, he did too. The running back already is good himself, the oline just helps to raise their ceiling. That's why Chris Carson was a great back, but never got the chance to prove it
@@MrREAPERsz It's more complicated than that and Najee avg was 3.9 lol thats pretty much 4. Play calling, offensive scheme, how many 1st and up the middle's the team is gonna run are all factors, do they run play actions etc. Yards after contact is another good stat too look at and Im too lazy to look it up but I promise Zekes is absolute garbage every year except his first two when he was getting 10 yards of steam before running into a CB or S every play.
Zeke needs to keep his legs under him a bit more and stop giving up on runs. He dives forward or fails to directly attack the defender and gets tackled easily.
I really love both guys. I think Tony Pollard probably works best in small to medium doses, if he turns into a workhouse I doubt we get the same production (to be fair we don’t know that for sure, but when does it not other than King Henry). At the same time, I still think Zeke can give us something this year if he’s 100% especially in those 3rd and 1’s.
If they'd have the sense to use him in 3rd and 1 scenarios... IDK how many times I've yelled at my TV because they tried a short pass in those circumstances and missed it.
Most top tier rbs get alot of volume throughout their college careers when they get their first rookie contract they are basically in the prime by the time they get their second contract they have already peaked so it only goes downhill from there and it shows time and time again. They are not overpaid in my opinion they just peaked too early they still deserve their money.
okay, love the content but Zeke had a serious knee injury that he got in week 3/4 that can explain a lot of these issues he had with explosiveness last year. his splits before and after are pretty obvious.
Honestly I think the Cowboys are thinking about using Pollard more in the slot this season and want to get both of these guys on the field especially with the injuries to the receivers and finally zeke healthy because his knee was a big problem you could tell even in the Saints highlight you put that he was hobbling while running
Zeke is as a complete back as there is in the NFL even though he has fallen off a bit on speed. His pass blocking is fantastic and he can get the dirty yards where fullbacks used to get them. Pollard is super quick and a speedster that can break it and take it to the house on any play but lacks the pass protecting ability of a bigger back. They complement one another perfectly. How they are utilized though is on Kellen Moore and Mike McCarthy. They can surely do a better job of that as long as Jerry moves out of the way.
Can you do a video on James Connors. I think he could be one of this years breakout stars but he could also end up having a terrible season. It would be interesting to see what you think about him and how he will do this season.
Great video, but you kind of lost me with the "maybe the PCL..." and I had to laugh out loud. So yeah, Zeke was averaging 5.1 before his knee basically hobbled him, and he still played and did ok? If he can stay healthy the man is arguably the best all around back in the league.
Use Zeke when you are in passing situations, great pass protection and great hands. Use Pollard for the explosive runs, 1st and 2nd. They work great together.
Zeke has turned into a “fall forward” back. He’s good at finding a hole and getting an extra yard or 2 after contact. But that burst is gone. He’s been on the track and lost weight so all hope isn’t lost just yet. But this is definitely his last opportunity to prove he’s still a superstar.
Love the videos, especially the zack Wilson one, earned a new sub. Also, what music is that playing in the background as you begin the breakdown? After watching your videos it’s been stuck in my head 😂
I like this video because it was way more objective and analytical than any over take I've seen or heard from any sport journalist on TV. Like someone else mentioned though the extreme decline of the o-line has played a major part in Zeke's game. In just about every single game over the past couple years you can see defenders getting to the the backfield before the ball is even handed to Zeke.
I think Zeke comes in this year healthier, stronger, alittle faster. Zeke will not rush for 1,500 yards but i believe he has 1,100 in the tanks and Pollard will help contribute with about 750 yards.
No they don’t…..Zeke won’t even be here next year. Too expensive. Can’t pay a part RB 15/M a year. Only reason we didn’t do it already was the structure of his contract. 2022 will be his last with Dallas then the Cowboys will re-sign pollard and draft another back in the first three rounds.
They don't have a dilemma. They have a 1-2 PUNCH! If anybody reading this saw the ligament stretch Zeke had now 3 games ago, and still scored 2 TD after that in that game. I believe that he has in form. The MN win showcased the entire team in a MUST have game. Allowing Zeke to get 3 goal line runs, while Tony was awesome showed that the coaches are really willing to depend on the healthiest players, and bring those who aren't gradually along. I loved that breakdown of film work!
You use pollard for long distance plays and out side plays but Zeke can break though some times but zeke is also will block and hit you unlike pollard and a duo like this is really good
Hey man quick question. Are you using coaches film from NFL+ Premium subscription? if so how do you get it to work?? because I am subscribed to premium and NEVER get the option. I reached out to them but they are literally not helping.
Zeke has been in decline during the past 4 years and he isn’t going to get younger, faster, and better. This should be his last year unless he signs on with a team with a limited role in 2023.
Why is it only a dilemma in Dallas? Everyone can have a two headed monster in the back except for Dallas? Most of the league plays with two backs to keep each other fresh and do different jobs. Quit using the cowboys as click bait to get your views up.
Great analysis!!!! (Of course because I agree with mostly all of what you said here) These type of problems are GOOD problems to solve. Give me the headache of having a deep running back position every year. Tony is the lightning to Zeke's thunder. You want both. PLAY THEM BOTH Problem solved. (The old days of a bellcow back like Emmitt, Walter P., Barry S., Tony D. taking ,; those days are gone or changing a lot.) It's bad news to have a deep drop at that position if Zeke gets hurt or misses games. Tony is a more of a gadget guy (see his college reel) and breakaway promise. Put it this way; Cowboys fans will be very sad if/when either one of them gets hurt or misses games.
Since 2019 Pollard has finished the year ahead of Zeke in yards per carry. Yards per carry amongst RBs 2019: 3rd overall with 5.29 to Zeke 4.21 2020: abysmal year as a whole but Pollard was ahead with 4.32 to Zeke 4.01 2021: 2nd overall with 5.53 to Zeke 4.23 2022: 1st overall with 6.25 to Zeke 4.06
Hey Alex Rollins can you make a video on the most missed tackles by a team last year and the team with the least missed tackles? I like seeing teams that actually know how to tackle.
@@AlexRollinsNFL Ok bet. Yeah pff doesn't release their missed tackle percentages anymore for players. They actually used to cover all defensive positions like the linebackers, the trenches and the DBs. They haven't done It in a while
A) I think it’s important to note that Zeke’s offensive line has deteriorated each year since he signed that contract. B) You didn’t go into pass blocking as much as you could have, which Zeke is a beast at. C) That 20 extra pounds doesn’t even begin to explain it: Zeke is THICK. He can take a pounding. D) There’s a reason Tony Pollard isn’t a starter in the NFL. As a RB, I'm not convinced he's built to handle 200 carries a season. In fact, even in college he was a WR (who saw considerable time as a ball carrier) but never carried more than 78 times in a season. In the NFL, last season was his best at 130 carries and he got dinged up twice, missing two games. He’s a great talent - just not THE starter. Using him as we do, we get a tremendous benefit from his talent. It''s good thing to have two great backs. E) Before Zeke got injured last year, we were 6-1 and riding high. We went 6-4 the rest of the season. Even injured for half the year, he finished 7th in the NFL in rushing (he only carried the ball 20 times in a game twice and had 12 or less carries in a game SEVEN times.)
I agree with a lot of your points in this video but I have to disagree with you at the end. It's time to let the young man take the reigns. Zeke is good and probably still has some left in the tank. It's time to get him out while he is still hot for a pick. (Maybe a new QB) Tony Pollard hasn't been in the league as long as zeke and will most likely end up doing better moving forward. Reading the tackles and secondary will come with experience.
Show me a 3 down back that blocks like zeke on the blitz pick up, he catches the ball good runs hard....watch this video alone and tell me zeke is running behind a good line the last couple yrs....fix the line and we will see Zeke run....I can guarantee you if you ask his peers they sure don't wanna block like he does...
After watching this video, it seems to me that neither Elliott nor Pollard are the long-term answers at RB for the Cowboys. The Cowboys need to look seriously in the draft for a more complete lead RB.
Zeke is a nice running back. The problem is that no running back is worth a large financial investment. He has very little burst, and that’s a big problem. It seems like he hardly breaks any tackles, and that’s more on the RB than the o-line. Right now, Pollard is a better RB, and so far, without looking at the advanced stats, this season as well.
If we had the coaching system, we could honestly implement what the browns did 2 seasons ago. Run first with our 2 backs, have dak as a game manager(yes even though he’s paid). It’ll keep the defense off the field and rested. Our defense has shown its top tier(top 10), even with the losses in free agency. This is just a hopeful fan, Ik football is harder than what ppl think
Pollard is a great back catching passes out of the backfield and is good finding those holes. Zeke has lost a step, but is still good at catching passes out of the backfield. The real missing element is a back that can push the pile, drag defenders, stiff arm opponents and run over DB’s. We need that back that can get those short yardage first downs and touchdowns.
Ok I’m tired of hearing this. 1. In Zeke’s first couple of season the cowboys had arguably the best O-line in the NFL. 2. Zeke is hands down the best blocking back in the league, which is extremely important in the NFL today with playbooks becoming more pass happy. 3. Size wise zeke checks all the boxes. This debate needs to stop we are comparing a top 5 back to a 3rd down utility guy. People who know football know what’s up.
I wonder what they'd get if they tried to trade him and I wonder how upset Dak would be but hopefully he takes a paycut as even he should realise that he was overpaid
Tell me you didn’t get the point of this video without telling me you didn’t get the point of this video. Pollard only out preforms in speed nowhere else.
The worry for me with Zeke in fantasy is that he's not going to win you the league. You won't lose the league either, he just doesn't have the explosive blow ups that will get you the chip
This isn't the first time we have been in this situation.. the ony thing new is Kellen moore doesn't know how to effectively use them both. its a learning curve. i just dont think we should be training Kellen. Especially when we just got a new head coach.
NO we don't have a massive dilemma! We have two outstanding running backs. KM needs to learn how to use them and design plays with both of them on the field at the same time! This a Great advantage for us not a dilemma!
Pretty straight forward if you ask me. Zeke is slow and can't break tackles any more. Pollard is younger, faster, and can read defenses better. We should never have given Zeke that big contract, but I think it's time to just eat what we have to and trade him before he loses all value.
Never ever pay running backs!!!! There is too much fresh generational talent every draft and they never make past a 2nd contract. Plus a great run scheme can make an average back into elite. Look at SF for example, with 3 or 4 string guys they can have the rusher go for over 100 yds consistently. Happened 2 years ago with Jeff Wilson Jr, and Jamycal Hasty when Mostert went down. Last year they took a 5th round pick and made him exceptional with just a good scheme.
"No RB should be talked by a CB at any level." I like your content a lot for the most part. But comments like that make your insight very questionable.
Dallas has had this problem for awhile, which can be seen as a good thing. Their backup runningbacks have always eventually excelled beyond the starter. Marion Barber over Julius Jones. Felix Jones over Marion Barber. Demarco Murray over Felix Jones. If Murray hadn't left, someone would have overtaken him.
I think zeke is the better pass blocking back who is better at pushing the line. Pollard is by no means bad at pass blocking and and he can use his speed as power when he needs to. That being said, Zeke's agility isn't the same that it used to be. Pollard needs to work on his technique and footwork to be RB1.
Zeke is overpaid but hes still a damn good back luckily hes told dallas he willing to restructure his deal next year so we can keep pollard and just have a 2 headed monster...have to remember zeke was playing with a torn pcl he was looking faster before that happened
This is one of those things only true nfl fans and former football players of most levels understand. Some players are better than they end up being some years. Due to injury or team composition etc. Zeke is just not living up to his talent potential. So it disappoints us. But he's still a very good RB, just hasn't been elite like he used to be. Pollard is just the new hotness and has the insane speed and shift we like in the current day nfl. I think the reason we have this dilemma is the way its been handled. They both are cool with it and the team is starting to use them both of their strengths.

That's why Chris Carson was a great back, but never got the chance to prove it
@@DoPtRiGGa that's every RB. My najee Harris is behind a terrible line and only averages 3ypc.
Jerry has too much pride to cut players that he gave big extensions too
………………dez…………………
I don't even watch the NFL, but this analysis taught me a lot about the game, so I appreciate the vid, my man!
Love to hear that!
Zeke needs to keep his legs under him a bit more and stop giving up on runs. He dives forward or fails to directly attack the defender and gets tackled easily.
It's bad when you see a 230lb RB on film doing it over and over.
Does anyone remember when pollard was the starter when zeke was holding out. nobody was happy.
Jordan Davis is gonna be an absolute problem for Zeke
Zack Martin can take care of him he’s been kicking Eagles dlineman ass for years
JD gon be a problem for everybody
okay, love the content but Zeke had a serious knee injury that he got in week 3/4 that can explain a lot of these issues he had with explosiveness last year. his splits before and after are pretty obvious.
I agree. But that makes them look more dumb. Why use him then..
@@jakel.1724 because pollard isn’t strong enough to have 200 carrys
running backs burn out quick, that is why you dont pay them
Zeke wasnt any better in 2020 either tho
He says that in the video
Would love to see a overview like this for the running backs in Denver right now, nice work excellent comparisons.
Thank you!
You mean James Conner? If so, I agree but eno benjamin gotta take chase edmonds role and tbh he could be the one to have breakout year in the dessert
@@BadekHWDP yeah that’s what I meant
Great video, but you kind of lost me with the "maybe the PCL..." and I had to laugh out loud. So yeah, Zeke was averaging 5.1 before his knee basically hobbled him, and he still played and did ok? If he can stay healthy the man is arguably the best all around back in the league.
Tell the again wow you no yeah
Use Zeke when you are in passing situations, great pass protection and great hands. Use Pollard for the explosive runs, 1st and 2nd. They work great together.
Zeke has turned into a “fall forward” back. He’s good at finding a hole and getting an extra yard or 2 after contact. But that burst is gone. He’s been on the track and lost weight so all hope isn’t lost just yet. But this is definitely his last opportunity to prove he’s still a superstar.
Pollard was actually a better pass blocker than Zeke last season
Love the videos, especially the zack Wilson one, earned a new sub. Also, what music is that playing in the background as you begin the breakdown? After watching your videos it’s been stuck in my head 😂

Its all about offensive line see the difference this year with an offensive line investment
Thanks Darrius
Pollard played behind the same line and is much more productive. It is the line, it is Zeke has lost a step.
The only problem I see is that pollard needs more money but I like Zeke too
They don't have a dilemma.
You use pollard for long distance plays and out side plays but Zeke can break though some times but zeke is also will block and hit you unlike pollard and a duo like this is really good
Incredible video quality, editing and production, bro. Well done.
Hey man quick question. Are you using coaches film from NFL+ Premium subscription? if so how do you get it to work?? because I am subscribed to premium and NEVER get the option. I reached out to them but they are literally not helping.
To be honest I have a work around that I can't share cause it might get shut down, sorry Hankarlos
@@AlexRollinsNFL no worries thank you
Great video. Love your work. Maybe mix in some slow motion. Just an idea
Thanks Frank!
Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara both but up top 10 numbers in NOLA.
We are going to stick with Zeke he has great blocking skills and saves Dak from really getting hit 🎯
Go Google the pass blocking grade of Zeke and then Tony. You'll be surprised
this is not a dilemma, nor is it "massive" anything. 2 good runners behind an excellent O-Line... THE END. Now go home and get your shine-box.
What did you use to get these film angles at?
NFL gamepass
Zeke has been in decline during the past 4 years and he isn’t going to get younger, faster, and better. This should be his last year unless he signs on with a team with a limited role in 2023.
Why is it only a dilemma in Dallas? Everyone can have a two headed monster in the back except for Dallas? Most of the league plays with two backs to keep each other fresh and do different jobs. Quit using the cowboys as click bait to get your views up.
"too much talent" is just a perceived dilemma. options are always a good thing.
Use both. Do not pay Pollard.
smart
Oh no you mean to tell me signing a RB to a long term extension is not paying off. Oh man wait till you try to tell them water is wet.
Super detailed even “microscopic” analysis on these two great backs. I’m subscribing right now!!!!!
Thanks Eric!
Yards per carry amongst RBs
2019: 3rd overall with 5.29 to Zeke 4.21
2020: abysmal year as a whole but Pollard was ahead with 4.32 to Zeke 4.01
2021: 2nd overall with 5.53 to Zeke 4.23
2022: 1st overall with 6.25 to Zeke 4.06
Hey Alex Rollins can you make a video on the most missed tackles by a team last year and the team with the least missed tackles? I like seeing teams that actually know how to tackle.
I'll put it on the list
Seems to me the DEFENSES have a massive problem with both of these backs LOL!!!
Hey man! I live in isreal, what is you'r route? I'd be thrilled to meet with you! Huge fan of your work
Hey man! Message me on Twitter or IG @alexrollinsnfl
Not gonna lie last year made me hate zeke he wasn’t that good tbh if tony had more reps we could’ve did better
Love the video. Great content as always.
Thanks Craymaste!
His line has degraded every year too but your point is very well made.
EXCELLENT PRESENTATION. FLAWLESS!
Thanks B P!
Love your stuff man. You are what ESPN/TSN should have been.
Thank you!!
After watching this video, it seems to me that neither Elliott nor Pollard are the long-term answers at RB for the Cowboys. The Cowboys need to look seriously in the draft for a more complete lead RB.
Running backs aren't long term. The video shows having multiple backs is the now and the future
Thank god my team doesn’t draft RBs in the first two rounds
Elliot was considered at one point to be a complete RB and now he's fighting for playing time.
@@tevinlong4888 running back by committee, belichick for example has been aware of this for years
@Harupert Beagleton honestly however they "planned it" the Cowboys are sure glad they have Pollard
Zeke is also a great blocker. Hope the offense of line can stay healthy, And use both of them at the same time.
Super on point analysis, you earned a subscriber
Thanks!
Lol, who’s better? Idgaf we have both of them
Pollard is a great back catching passes out of the backfield and is good finding those holes.
Fax bro
Well done sir. 👏
Pollard- 81 attempts 506 yards 5TDs
20+yd plays 5 40+yd plays 3
Zeke- 109 attempts 443 yards 4TDs
20+yd plays 1 40+yd plays 0
Great video always great analysis
Thanks Marcos
O-Line has diminished so please stop acting like Zeke fell off. The front push helps as well
Why not just continue to use the same way they have, split the carrys
I've been screaming cut that overpriced Zeke for 3 years now. He's a good pass blocker but my man Pollard out performs.
I wonder what they'd get if they tried to trade him and I wonder how upset Dak would be but hopefully he takes a paycut as even he should realise that he was overpaid
Exactly why pay 18 mill a year for a pass blocking running back
what's the point of releasing him? just trade him
Tell me you didn’t get the point of this video without telling me you didn’t get the point of this video. Pollard only out preforms in speed nowhere else.
It doesn’t make sense to cut zeke till after this season and hasn’t since contract was signed. Financially after it was signed it is more dumb
4:05 it also helps that Thompson was blocked in the back
Bro got me thinking of why i pick zeke in Fantasy football 🤔 🤣 ......zeke get the TDs in the red zone though.... great points though bro...
The worry for me with Zeke in fantasy is that he's not going to win you the league. You won't lose the league either, he just doesn't have the explosive blow ups that will get you the chip
I really enjoyed this video. Yeah pass protection Pollard would get destroyed. But Zeke is a waste of downs gaining no yards
This isn't the first time we have been in this situation.. the ony thing new is Kellen moore doesn't know how to effectively use them both. its a learning curve. i just dont think we should be training Kellen. Especially when we just got a new head coach.
First time running into your channel and ima binge the whole thing great content!
Thank you!
NO we don't have a massive dilemma! We have two outstanding running backs. KM needs to learn how to use them and design plays with both of them on the field at the same time! This a Great advantage for us not a dilemma!
Just be glad you have them both
Pretty straight forward if you ask me. Zeke is slow and can't break tackles any more. Pollard is younger, faster, and can read defenses better. We should never have given Zeke that big contract, but I think it's time to just eat what we have to and trade him before he loses all value.
Yes! Fantasy football content! This is why I initially followed you Alex! Thanks for helping me with my draft :)
Appreciate you as always MA 👊
Never ever pay running backs!!!! There is too much fresh generational talent every draft and they never make past a 2nd contract. Plus a great run scheme can make an average back into elite. Look at SF for example, with 3 or 4 string guys they can have the rusher go for over 100 yds consistently. Happened 2 years ago with Jeff Wilson Jr, and Jamycal Hasty when Mostert went down. Last year they took a 5th round pick and made him exceptional with just a good scheme.
@8:49 #17 that's an illegal use of hands if not a hold at the point of contact. bring it back
I think both backs are complimentary. Teams have to game plan for both Zeke and Pollard. One without the other would be less successful.
This video is long over due not just by you but everyone. Great as always
Thanks Sandy!
No they don't, but not gonna stop you from stirring up that drama in Dallas to get clicks.
"No RB should be talked by a CB at any level."
I like your content a lot for the most part.
