What's the Point of Wavy Blades? (Flamberge, Kris, Etc)

  • Wavy, undulating, "flame" blades are popular in fantasy for their unique, vicious appearance, and although not particularly common in real-life history, they did exist in different parts of the world. They meaning and practical value has often been discussed, although it's hard to be sure of anything.
    I visited Matt Easton at his place to look a few antique kris blades (also an unusual Indian tulwar) and have a chat about potential reasons for shaping edged weapons like this. Originally we recorded at Tod's place but decided to re-do it because my mic refused to capture all of it.
