- Sword UA-camr, Skallagrim was over in the UK for a visit so Matt Easton of Scholagladiatoria and I met up. We had a look at a veritable feast of Albion swords, which I keep as templates for making scabbards so customers can order without sending me their sword.

You should have sneaked a couple of your own into the lineup Tod, to see if they noticed.
FFS!!!!!! I sooo should have done that! Where were you when I needed you
"why do these ones look so much better than the others?"
@@tods_workshop Do you have the Albion swords because it's more cost effective than having a bunch of your Tod Cutler swords sitting around?
@@mikeabbott2396 Tod did say he has the Albion's to make custom scabbards for Albion's for his clients. He uses them as pattern pieces. No need for a client to send in a weapon.
@@mikeabbott2396 The Albions are references for making scabbards. Albion is a popular manufacturer and production time is shorter when the customer doesn’t have to first ship his sword to Tod.
This was such a fun day, and I've never seen this many Albions in person... Shiny sharp overload! (in a good way)
Thanks again for having us over, Tod. It was great to hang out and chat about swords.
An absolute pleasure-anytime
Did you get to reunite with your old friend, the Caithness?
Would have been more fun if Shad did a guest appearance.
@@mattblack118 nah, he has severe brain worms. Hard to travel with those.
So awesome, I was drooling for the entire video
I'd love to do this again with some cutting and other interactive tests. Some of these really come alive in use in a way that isn't what you expect from their appearance. Great fun day! ❤
Right? This calls for an episode 2
Yess Tod, please lets see how all these cut and thrust, compare them.
Right Matt, you are on. Let’s chat and come up with a plan
@@tods_workshop Awesome 💥
It was funny watching you and Skall in your own little worlds moving them around .I dont think any one has that many swords to try out in one day kids in a candy store
i realy love how skal is like a kid without concentration, but give him a shiny sword and he plays while the "oldies" are talking
Hey, I still listen. Fidgeting helps focus, you know. ;)
Knowledge of a grown up even if matt and I have few years on you
He's a far left clown.
@@tods_workshop Exactly what a cool uncle would say to encourage his hyper-active nephew along ;)
@@Skallagrim i really REALY understand you. love the 3 of you, separated and together
The Doge has the look of something that was designed by someone that knew exactly what they wanted & why and didn't care what anyone else thought.
Kinda like a fighting dog, not the prettiest puppy in the basket.... But it is the one you don't want the other guy to bring to the party
i'm honestly surprised to find out people have contrasting feelings about it, but i think you sort of nailed it on the head with the first part of your comment: it's made with specific purpose and taste in mind, and that's why i always liked it not just for novelty's sake but aesthetically too, "a swortd to fit" so to speak.
3 kids talking about medieval Pokémon, LOVE IT
Tragic: i know
@@tods_workshopNooo not at all, I’m
Sure men have been doing this with weapons for ever
That Doge is kinda like finding Sherman's personal arms collection and discovering he had an assault rifle.
So it's the burnside carbine?
I like weird
I like to think of it as a proto side sword.
Count on Skall to immediately pick up the coolest one! LOL
Definitely the weirdest one. :)
No hesitation on your part! LOL... ya, it was the coolest... lol
Personally for cool I go Munich or Fulham
Matt is always a history class to watch :D
Indeed he is
The enthusiasm is just delightful! 😄
I luv the glee they just exude, leak, spillover, fountain exuberance, it is quite a sight. Adults in a candy store.
Heard Matt's explanation about 'riding sword' and thought I would add some german:
'Ritterschwert' - literally "knight's sword", and 'Reitschwert' - "riding sword" aren't exactly far apart in german. Considering that spelling wasn't necessarily standardized at the time, and with a couple of rounds of translations and hearing words from people with accents and dialects, I wouldn't doubt that some confusion might just have been introduced unwittingly at one point or another.
Thanks!
It sounds reasonable.
That is really important to know. Thanks!
Agreed. Not heard that before this film, but makes all sorts of sense
On Top of that German wasn't exactly the same back then as it is now so some translations might get lost on that too. I don't know when we started using that but up to right before WW2(I know quite a Jump ahead) we also had a different written letters that look more like cyrillic than latin. The Latin Letters are a Thing because Hitler noticed nobody in the Occupied Countries can read their Propaganda in the old style so he changed it to Latin Letters.
"Hexagonal blades cut like a dream" sounds like a claim that needs testing.
Sounds like we might
Just make sure you also demo roman chopping power too !
As a wise man once said, thinness is sharpness. If it's thicker in the middle it won't cut as deeply, at least.
"It doesn't go any deeper than: The romans had it, and that's cool, and I want one" - soooo. Onager build video coming propably sometime 2025?
Great video as always, love seeing the three of you having fun together.
Just so you lads know, these videos have been an absolute joy. Time to kidnap Skall! One love from Scotland. 💙🦁🏴
Thanks and we had fun too
Holy f that's a lot of swords
and a looooooooooooooooot of money - Albion swords do cost a fortune.
Need them for my job; just tools really. Pretty ones though
@@tods_workshop I need albion swords for my job, is the coolest statement one could make.
@@-Zevin- if I was to go back in time and advise my younger self on what path to take in life... I might go with "have you considered what professions would require regular access to replica historical swords?"
@@-Zevin-Tax deductible too
it's like one of those floor pianos but pointier
i just thought of an incredible game of twister
This was my favorite collaboration of the year! So awesome to see some of the greatest sword reviewers in the same frame!
I think I am going to enjoy this video very much :-)
I hope so!
@@tods_workshopI did enjoy it very much, Skall should come more often to UK :-)
This'll probably never happen, and it's likely too expensive, but it'd be really interesting to see what Tod would MAKE for Matt and Skalla's dream swords.
'A man can never have to many swords' Your not supposed to take that as a challenge Tod
😂😂
Yay! This series is still going! Thanks, fellas, been loving 'em all.
I get what Skall means about his pick at the end there. That's definitely a beautiful kind of ugly in that exotic mashup of features.
The Burgundian, that's my girl! The type of crossguard that Matt said he prefers is probably more appropriate. However, Peter gave it that one because A.) the guard on one of the originals it's based on is thought to be a Victorian alteration. The original I'm referring to is the Wallace Collection #A466. And B.) There is another Type XVIII arming sword with a fishtail pommel and a very similar guard, where the ends of the quillons match the pommel by being somewhat "fishtail" shaped. I believe this sword lives in a private collection currently. However, it can be seen in photo plate #19 in Oakeshott's book the Archeology of Weapons.
This collaboration has yielded the exact abundance of content I was hoping for!!!! Absolutely amazing :)
13:12 ish, fantastic slide, good work on the bezier curve smoothing it perfectly
I have no idea about any of that, but will pass on your comment to Alex
Guys I can’t tell you how happy these collab videos are making me. Y’all could start your owned combined channel…the blade triumvirate!
This might be my favorite video yet; it’s such a joy to see all of these Albion models laid out and analyzed by you three.
Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work!
P.S. - Todd, how’s that Coustille dagger/sword coming along? Count me in for one of those when they’re available ;)
I'm a simple man, I see a Tod, Skall, or Schol video I cl-- JESUS that's a lot of swords!!!
These collab videos are awesome to watch! I follow all 3 channels, and enjoy content on all of them. I hope to see more of these in the future!
Great joy to see this.
A collab of epic proportions!
This video just makes me smile. Genuine fun and too many swords to pick.
The Doge's look is precisely why I "needed" it to be my first Albion purchase. Years later, it's still one of my favorite swords.
Edit1: Funny they also look at the Archduke, which is my most recently received Albion purchase. I wonder how many others that I own will get called out in this video.
Edit2: Lol...yep. They pulled out the Sovereign, which is another lovely Albion I happen to own.
Edit3: Now the Principe!
Edit4: ...and quick appearances by both the Munich and Chevalier.
Great video! So much fun to watch you all having a blast
Two very good sword masters and man who owns a trebuchet, what fun. Thank you for sharing everyone's knowledge, skills and abilities.
Another great collaboration. Congratulations
Great video! I would like to see another on scabards. Looking at all these swords made me realise I dont really know how scabards are made, what their made of, or really anything about them. Would be interesting!
Also, nice to have Tod there to herd the curious cats and keep them on track a little! lol
This is a great video with a group of great guys and swords. Thank you.
Absolutely awesome and interesting video. Great collaboration, its a pleasure to see you together discussing swords.
Great Video with the 3 of you and your combined experience. Pls more of this stuff!
Great to seeing you guys having fun!
Nothing better than seeing three sword-nerds just having fun and sharing thoughts on stuff they love; great vid and collab guys... More of this please!
I absolutely love this. Just seeing three passionate creators coming together for a day of brainstorming fun activities to talk about swords and stuff. The videos I see coming from all three channels makes it seem like you're all counselors at the coolest summer camp ever lmao
Really, really, wish I would be one of them rn.
I really wish UA-cam would understand the difference between historical violence and promoting violence.
I think you three should do more colabs.. match made in heaven❤
I have two Albions! The training steel blunt is my favorite. It just feels good to swing.
Matts handling of swords gives me 🪵 ngl
The Principe looks like a cutting monster. Outside rapiers and Roman swords, its my favorite medieval one. I looks amazing.
I really enjoy these cross over videos. You all have such different styles of presentation and specialized knowledge.
Gotta love Tod getting in the "I make swords as well, at a much lower price."
Cause he ain't wrong folks!
Awesome. This was fun.
Cheers!
I wish it was a selection of your swords Mr. Tod.
Watching Matt hold a sword is both beautiful and terrifying
these collaboration videos have been a delight!
So many beautiful swords. Thank you for the show
I wouldn't be able to contain myself if i got to walk up and explore so many beautiful swords. Great video!
24:43 The editor knows what they did there!🤣😂
quickest half-hour of my life
when matt starts swinging a sword around, you know he means business.
25:00 that’s the Albion Landgraf. I have it myself and it’s an awesome sword and feels amazing in the hands. I still need to get a scabbard for it but surprisingly it has barely any tarnish on it for the 2 years or so that I’ve had it.
albion needs to put out a couple sabres!
I love the the Doge was the first one to get looked at, it's the one I've wanted most of all albions.
Great to see you three together!
I totally understand Tod's rationale of "I liked how it looked", so I bought a Fiore, which I consider the "prettiest" of Albion's XVa longswords! After handling it, I'm pleased to say I'm even happier with it-- perfect mix of agility and authority, and the wheel pommel with the deep center makes for a very secure grip!
I hope this video series will never end!
That first sword is cool AF .
Wow, living the dream! My dream! lol I want to have, make, or maybe make little replica book marks/letter-opener sized set of swords; one of each of the Oakeshott types for a display or maybe a whole wall. Dopamine overload!
I love that they went right to the Doge. Such a weirdly lovely sword
Can we please salute the fact that Tod has a 8-10m? cloth to role out to display the swords!
The Doge is awesome, I’m with Matt. It’s weird but so good.
Absolutely mesmerizing video, with an all-star cast. I relate to Skall (the user/sword-nerd), but Matt brings his vast historical knowledge into play, while Tod adds the greatly appreciated view of the artist and craftsman (and businessman; this video will create some demand-pull). Thanks guys for altogether enjoyable piece!
All the guys and all the swords. What a video!
Todd starts with,
" Skall go first. Pick up a sword and give us your thoughts. "
LOL. Immediately Mat snatches it away and gives His thoughts.
These are all beauts, all the more beautiful because of how hard these are to get in the UK. I'm so jealous!
The Doge is simply my favourite, it's gorgeous, and as you touched on really reminds me of some kind of proto rapier, its such an elegant, stylised blade thats just that perfect balance between earlier medieval sword designs and later designs.
exactly!
wild that it's apparently an uncommon taste, but i'm the kind of hipster that doesn't try to be one so, i guess i kinda can't understand why someone wouldn't like it in the first place...
Nerds nerding out, especially on topics I also like, is so enjoyable!
Wow,idk how y’all managed to keep this video under an hour, if there’s a directors cut, I’d love to see it!
🍻❤️🗡
Great craftsmanship Tod and thank you for your service! 👏 (Still love my heart Scottish dirk, Italian stiletto, and Tudor dinner/utility knife.)
24:55 Of the Albions I've sold, I do regret selling the Landgraf the most. I let it go because it doesn't quite fit the time period I was looking to collect, but it was an amazing sword. 26:00 The Chevalier doesn't really do anything special for me, but I've always felt a bit of a connection to that one since I named it.
@@MrJedi5150 Interesting. I really like my Squire and Sheriff, but I've never handled a Chevalier. I do have to agree on the Sempach/Landgraf, The difference was especially stark when I owned an Agincourt and compared them head-to-head. The Agincourt may be my least favourite Albion of all that I have handled.
This was great, thanks.
I was baited to skallagrim cause he was somewhat a gamer with access to sword knowledge I was baited to matt cause Fillipino blades and nows tim to be baited to tod and sub ^^
Definitely 3 kids in a candy shop in this video.
A very nice video. I must say, of their swords, my favourite has to be the Doge or the Machiavelli. I am a sucker for finger rings and swords that are more... side swordy. Albion doesn't really do (functional) side swords, so... but even with actual competition from side swords, those two are gorgeous.
I hope we get more of these videos!
Christmas, Easter and birthday in one day..🤪🤪🤪🤪
Matt's hand speed is quite cook to watch. That would be scary to fight.
Good collab, Clear benefits to viewers and you ; Fun.
I also love the Type 14. The one I have from Windlass cuts wonderfully.
I'm loving these "avengers crossover" haha
Surely I'm gonna be rewatching for years!!
I love this trio
Very fun! 🤩
(23:52) Matt: "[This sword] will cut through a cow, but you need to be really close to cut through the cow."
Tod: "Yeah, pesky those cows are."
So that's what paradise looks like
Great to see the love for the Burgundian and the Regent (I have two Albions: Burgundian and the Earl (which has the same blade as the Regent))
Do you think Albion will ever make the Alaris?
A really cool collaboration!
Would have loved if the close up shot were shot after you guys are done talking even if you would show them during the talk. I feel like the excitement of the person picking the sword diminishes when you stop them from talking. Loved the video over all though. You couldnt get this type of content anywhere else.
I respect the grind... on a blade and on the side of marketing that Tod is doing. Not only that it reminds me of what's available (e.g. I forgot that the rondels are hollow; that's neat), but it's actually fun to get a quick glance at a nice blade for a few seconds in a video about something else; other nice blades in this case. It's a palate cleanser or sorts, so keep highlighting one Tod Cutler item per video. 👍
That gladius is absolutely gorgeous!
I’ve always loved the Doge but after seeing the big 3 sword guys talk about it I think I may need to redo my budget posthaste
the dimensions on the guarded handle blade are very nice looks like a mean cutter.
