Just remember how the game goes. When they sell you relic it’s premium but when your guitars are for sale, relic will be held against you since it not mint
I once read when the Les Paul body changed to the SG shape Gibson found some left over bodies assembled them sprayed them Cherry Red with a 1961 serial number. There is a mission for you .
Etching on red LP cover plate is "Sunset Strip Customs", after Sunset Blvd in LA.
I love watching this channel. It's always a bunch of dramatically overpriced and over hyped "historical" guitars that I don't and have never wanted to play, much less own. Most of them make me cringe as they are the opposite of what I enjoy and collect. But...I just like checking them out, It's like an accident I can't look away from. LOL! And, this channel is done so well. I dig it.
Yeah - I agree. Trogly seems to be into 'garish' looking guitars. The more outlandish the better. I'm more into the traditional colors from the past. The show is really well done, though I don't know how he keeps track of all these guitars coming in all the time ( every day).
“An accident I can’t look away from” is such a concise description of why watch this channel too haha
The channel is also a nice vehicle to artificially inflate the speculative market in 'vintage' guitars.
You hit the nail right on the head! Accident I can't look away from ahahahha. Never understood the whole relic jobs and the insane price tags. I can't see any actual guitar player buying something like these and gigging with them. If i wore the guitar out and it looks like crap, it's cool. If someone else wore it out, its still kinda cool, if someone intentionally made it look worn out, its not cool at all. 😀
And don't get me wrong, I love this channel and I enjoy his work and what he does here. It's really cool! It's just these 'collector' guitars are so cringe
Not usually a fan of red les Paul’s but that 59 looks really rad
Yup
I like the gaudy logo on the Vs and I think the scaled down versions look great on the others...the wear patterns look killer too
It seems that Gibson is focused on building collectibles, not musical instruments. Not every relic monster is strictly a custom shop order.
…and not every pro wants to play a $100 budget guitar.
I believe they make 500 instruments a day....what more should they do?
It boggles MY mind that anybody would give 20k for each of these!
I’m not a collector of anything but it seems to be a pretty common hobby and there are a lot of similar special edition guitars that go in this range. I can’t afford it but I don’t think the buyers will really lose much if any of their investment 10+ years from now. I seriously doubt that many of this will see serious playing time but players aren’t their intended audience.
You can buy 2 Customs and 4 Standards for $20,000! Or 4 Customs or 8 Standards! I'm generalizing about the costs of course, collectors are in a different league!
A basic handmade cello is about $15-20 grand. You don’t buy professional instruments to learn on or as a weekend hobby.
@@user-qw6vz8do6s Yeah probably not, unless you are just stupid rich or something.
'Blues Lawyers', who never play, buy them.
There’s nothing more rock and roll then the promotion of an authoritarian government message on your guitar.
Backplates - Sunset Strip Customs, Retroliner
Leo Scala guitars are stringed Affliction tshirts. His guitars definitely listen to Trapt. Leo Scala's guitars are on desk duty while an arrest they made is under investigation.
I like the red Paul.
Seems Scarla has a social conscience, nice! The Les Paul is the pick of the bunch for me
Paint shop worker: shit I dropped one.
His boss: put it in the relic basket.
His bosses boss: take all scrap and mark it up 100%.
Welcome to Gibson.
I get it and I love this collection! These are far beyond just relic'd or ruined guitars, or simply just guitars in general. That's only a small part of the bigger picture of the particular art form. I also get they're not everyone's cup o' tea. It's obviously all subjective in what one considers "art" or not. Or what guitars are "supposed" to be. Then again I love street art a la Banksy. As I live in a very urban environment, it's part of the landscape one either likes as that genre of an art form or see it as simple vandalism. These have all been purposely transformed into well beyond how well it plays, sounds, what you'd pay for them, what they used to be, what guitars are intended to be and what for, etc. etc. Not something for one's bowling shirt blues cover band to play, or perhaps just that. A completely different thing from an instrument that came factory flawed or even factory at all. Gibson only made the blank canvas. For me, it's the Code Red outta this bunch but the SG is darn nice too. This is solely my perspective and not a projection on what you should or should not think about them.
I like the big logo, it's nice and different. Wouldn't want it all the time but it suits that guitar.
I like all three
The retro liner has 50’s Rickenbacker Tulip & ‘80’s Tokai Talbo vibe.
I really dig the look of the flying V, it's rough but looks really cool
Love all of them, they're absolutely fantastic. I don't think I've ever seen a Scala I didn't like.
That "flying A" is awesome
Looks so good
Theodore backplate says, “Retroliner” which is funny because that’s the name of a liner for the bed of a pickup truck.
Another difference is that in 1955 Les Pauls still had all mahogany bodies.🎸👍😃. I'm still drooling over this beautiful piece of
6 String Lust. Love the red. Now I want another in trans emerald green with a 1 piece hand selected lightweight 3A white korina back with a Strat style tummy cut . Also Grover locking tuners and a locking bridge and TOM. A few 😂changes along an SG style slim neck make it truly mine👍🎸😃
I would've liked to see the Theodore with the walnut still showing.
I like the red, white and blue motif for Independence Day...
I prefer the second run over the first. More variety or guitar models with a more "reasonable" price tag. All these models are pretty sweet even tho I wasn't sold on the Theodore, but a closer look at the body and seeing the dings and dents I was sold. I like the big Gibson logo on the V because it has the space for it. It would look stupid on a 3x3 headstock or an Explorer headstock. The V pulls it off imo. Again with this concept are they worth $20K? That's up to the individual. I would like to see a normally priced version to see what they can do. I like the idea of a reliced guitar that has been fixed and modded over the decades. Parts do break and is very hard to keep a guitar in perfect original spec if used a lot. Again would like to see consumer grade versions that aren't collectables. Maybe something in like the mod collection demo, blemished, dinged, lacquer issues etc that can be made into fixed up reliced guitars. Just to keep the cost down and not having to use brand new guitars. I'd like that.
I think the back of the '52 Theodore says "RetroLiner" on the rear electronics cavity plate? Your mileage may differ.
For me the SG all day long
Warren Haynes 61 Gibson ES 335 (Cherry )from the band Government Mule I think that is what it is. I like the colored winding pegs.
With the fleur de lis logos on the knobs, it makes me think that the guys from DOWN or Crowbar would rock it.
Cool...I like the LP Standard ,looks like a fire truck & a tiger mixed together , and I like the SG with its metal headstock crown... Thanks Trogly !!!
Gimme that big ass logo
I prefer the smaller logo. Very cool guitars!
Thumbs up from me...❤ the ideas and creativity.
Whenever I see a guitar hanging up as an "art" piece I ask if I can play it. Most say no, some dont care, and some try the "its not tuned or anything, it just sits there uh uh" to which I say it can be tuned quite easily..My hipe is 1 day someone will just say "you actually play the things eh? Go ahead and take it." Never know, have had it happen before (never with a Gibson or any really "NICE" guitar.)
...and yes I know more than a few places with expensive assed guitars hanging or just on display. I drive and deliver....expensive things.... and see some shit. A lot of super rich people are more down to earth and cool than you would think.
Love the “stay at home” guitar……….
If I'm paying for a custom one-off Gibson I want everybody to know it I love the big name plate.
The red les paul looks fire, super beaten down
That Flying V is cool.
SG Rocks… Flying as well!
Les Paul and SG best looking relic art guitars I’ve seen from Gibson! When you consider the amount of work to create the depth of finish in those guitars and the thought that went into them 20k is not that bad when you consider their artist created. I can see at least one of these selling to Johnny Depp ?
That cavity cover says “Sunset Strip Customs”, I’m sure
I love how Trogly says, "It says retro something on it" and a second later we see in bold at the top of the description "LEO SCALA THEODORE RETROLINER" and "Retrophonic".
Never change, Trogly. You're the best.
😂🤣
I Love that Sg he did!!!👍
In for the win.
I'd love to see a Single Cut Theodor as a limited run or custom shop with a top carve
Well, if I had more money than sense, I'd buy them all. I'd buy the LP because it's gorgeous and the white pickguard is boss, I'd buy the SG because I love the road dog look, but I'm disappointed that it did not have at least one P90, I'd buy the Flying V because it's fantastically worn looking, I admire and agree with the sentiment, and the big Gibson logo suits it perfectly. I'd buy the Theodore because I feel sorry for it.
I liked the red Les Paul.
SG for me 🤘🤘
These are so sick. I remember seeing Pete Thorn playing his Leo Scala on a video with Oz Noy and it sounded unreal. I wish these guitars ended up with musicians instead of rich hobbyists. Have to imagine most of them barely get played...
The backplate on the Code Red reads "Sunset Strip Customs", not "Sweet". Cool guitar though.
The Theodore looks like those Japanese 60s guitars Teisco
I keep thinking The Clash
"STEAMPUNK" exactly, Trog! Just what I was thinking
I like the Les Paul and SG.
Les Paul because, like you said, it looks like a restomodded '52. Like, perhaps the gold went too green or flaked off like what happened to the Black Betty Les Paul.
SG because it gives me huge rat rod vibes, don't need to say much else there
All 3 are winners, but that V has a little something more to it..
Not a fan of Leo’s “creations” but then again I don’t like aged either. I can’t get behind something that’s brand new being artificially “abused”.
sweet...
"GIBSON: BECAUSE NONE OF YOU COMMON WORKING FOOLS ARE GOOD ENOUGH"
I wouldn't walk across the street to play one of those Scala Gibson's, much less pay 60k for one! Crazy!
I like the v, beautiful and I'm a custom guy..wow!!!! cool
Maybe I haven't paid enough attention to this. Does * Fender * have artist collections and custom shops like Gibson? If so, why don't we hear about it like we do with the Gibson customs? Maybe PRS too? Spread the love, Trogly!
I like this run more just a little more traditional I guess haha
I actually like the Theodore I think gibson need to try new things and I like the idea of a humbucker and a p90 I would have them the other way around but still cool
Looks like they’re trying to cut in on the fender road worn action
The LP and the SG is pretty cool. I like the idea of what if they did release this in the 50's. But the Theodore doesn't move me...at all. I liked the first wave best when both are compared though.
I'd rock the Theodore.
Funny, of all of them I like the Theodore, and that’s it. I would like it a whole lot more if it was new from Gibson and had a realistic price.
That final F... Flying V... actually looks like it caught COVID and never recovered.
They look like high school projects
Haaaaaaaa! They do, but I'd still have that Les Paul
Wow,you must've had a really good Wood/metal shop in high school.🤘
@@denverrandy7143 Lagwagon801 is right they are a little to avant-garde for most of us......and they do come off sort of well "amateurish"! I'm expecting for that kind of cash something better than The Crimson Division of Gibson, with that being said these are killer guitars no doubt! Long Live Gibson!
I do not like them at all
@@denverrandy7143let’s be honest here. Despite being unique in nature, if some guy off the street handed you a one of a kind 1 of 1 vintage replica with exact if not better and more accurate craftsmanship than gibson, no one would pay 50k for it. A sloppy artist is worth millions. A firm exact craftsman is worth nothing.
Easily one of the coolest LPs ever
Looks like Sunset Strip Customs, not Sweet Strip.
Sunset Strip.
Yeah, the vid spoke to me: it said, "Never do this to a fucking good guitar!"
Rickie Hinrichsen is a genuine talent creating inventive and satisfying works of art. I couldn't afford one, but appreciate they are so unique they probably justify the price. I don't dig what Leo Scala does at all though.
Doing a relic job with a Theodore was an interesting idea, but don't think the execution added much in practice.
sunset strip customs?
Yahoo 😮
I think its sunset strip
Fancy!
Love the v
I don't like Theodore - it's a tulip. And while I don't typically care for Flying Vees, I would totally buy STFU if I were stupidly rich - it's beautiful art!
It is pretty hideous.
Sweet Strip Customs 😂
Still waiting for Trogs to drop the f bomb.
isn't there any pearlescent finish guitar? I would asume this supercar trend would come to guitars at some time...
I dig the SG & Les Paul, but the rest didn’t get me.
Hmm
You made the podium for today and earned a Bronze Medal.
I like them all except the v
I like the SG and the older V’s that he did a year back or so. But I couldn’t ever afford any of them. Ever. But that fine. I enjoy just knowing that someone out there is playing one hopefully! But these being as expensive as they are, they’re probably looked at more for being pieces of art then they are just as an instrument. And that’s unfortunate in my opinion. But if you got the money then who am I to say what someone should do with these guitars.
👍
The red Les Paul was very cool. The rest not so much.
That V looks like the ultimate in over aging a guitar on purpose just to make it salable. I'm reserving judgment about the f word; I have used it myself but wouldn't think of putting it on to the finish of a guitar. It is fascinating, but I'm probably still thinking about the fact that I spent 25 years from when I began learning to play Until the End of 2020 resisting my attraction to that body shape.
I feel like the people who would buy these Leo Scala guitars used to have Ed Hardy or Affliction shirts, but have now upgraded to the ones on Instagram with a flaming skull on the back that says something like "I'm an asshole, and I'm glad to hurt your feelings"
Montoyan Artisan Connection
That covid guitar certainly is a candidate for a refinish, as virtue signalling has no place on cool guitars IMHO! What happened to Rock'n'Roll, I wonder?
The red LP is amazing though! Where can I buy it?
The V looks like a serial killer made it. All the other guitars seems like thoughtful representations of old moded player guitars. Like the small Gibson logo the best.
i wasnt much of a fan of these from the news headlines i saw, yeah the '52 style tailpieces on the lp and sg were nice, but after i noticed it was just a bracket attached to a regular wraptail that went away
but that V is absolutely perfect, at least for what these are for, for a player I'd prefer a higher neck shelf but these are never going to get played, they're being bought by people for decoration/investment
I'm 98% against relict guitars. That cherry Les Paul looks pretty cool.
Code Red is the best of this pick.
hi
I say that THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES.
That V aged poorly in multiple ways
Turning rebellion into money...in 20 years time our kids will ask "the state put you under house arrest and you thought it was punk rock to lick their boots?"
