That wood around the binding at 3:18 could very well be factory. I have seen some horrendous stuff on a few Gibson's that should have never made it out of the factory. You did an awesome job giving it a new life by the way.

People often say: "if I could turn back time, I'd do something different..." - I work as an electronics tech, absolutely love working in the trade with a passion.....but, if I could turn back time and do something different, I'd do this. Building guitars is one thing - restoring them is a different kettle of fish. There's a lot of blood, sweat and tears but the end result is worth it. Whilst you were playing at the end there, I was relieved when you said that you had reversed the wiring. I thought I was going mad hearing neck PU sounds coming out of the bridge PU. Nice video.
Amazing job. I do setups and general repairs for friends and students. My wife watched this with me and said 'you should do that, you'd be good at it'. I can't think think of anything that I'm suited for worse than guitar restoration. Your attention to detail, methodical approach, and patience is absolutely fascinating. You seem to be one of the few with the correct response. This was an overhaul, not a restoration. A restoration is when something is returned to it's original condition. The finish is far from original in color or burst. The end result looks amazing, but it is not a restoration.
Yup, I believe it's the right word to say, since EVERYTHING came apart. Neck, fretboard, binding! It's definitely an overhaul. I have never seen anything like that before

This dude has skills good job, and for me i can relate never happy with your own work...me as a master fabricator and machinist im also never happy with the details of certain aspects of my own projects but we as a whole are such perfectionist that we loose site of the over all picture its only when it comes full circle when we see the before and after then we pat ourselves on the back....good job dude keep up the good good work, btw id be proud to own it and youve kinda inspired me to refurbish my tama drum kit for im a musician as well, youve given me some good idea's on how to address some of the issues with my birch kit....well done brother god bless...😎🤘🙏🙏🙏
Once I saw that it was a Gibson “Standard”, I agreed it was worth the refurb. Absolutely NO Gibson “Studio” is Worth that amount of effort. Excellent job. I couldn’t do this.....I don’t have enough clamps. Lol
And to think 🤔 I get a little nervous removing a bolt on neck. I’ve never messed with a glued in neck but I’ve seen enough wood panel glue ups where the wood fiber breaks while the glue line holds, to freak me out.
Man. That was amazing. Don’t think I’ve got the sack to dive into something this labor intensive and nerve racking. Lol. I’d rather go in debt buying a new one. Less stressful 😂 Oh! Love that burst. Absolutely badass👊🏻
3:47 now I guess I know that koss's 'stripped' burst started out cherry and not tobacco. I love that washed out lemon top as-is. Would totally spray a clear coat over it and rock that. 👍😂
Yep! I made a neck steaming rig for $3.76. I used an empty metal 16 oz paint can from Lowes, a rubber grommet, a length of plastic tubing and a needle inflator for basketballs/footballs. I removed the fret above the neck/body joint, and drilled 2 small holes in the fret slot, put my can full of water on the stove and had at it. Worked like a champ!
An artist and his project. Way beyond good, dude...up there into the realm of wood wizard...watching that fret work was very educational. Thank you for sharing your talent on the tube so this Florida guy could say, 'Wow" beyond awesome!

There's something so awesome about a aburst rubbed on by hand like that. They always looks so unique and often beautiful.
Gibson should hire and pay you high dollar to do their quality control.
I already work for Gibson and the people they're awesome but the managment there is to be desired for his is best to be abroad.

It's gorgeous! The project is nearly like building a whole guitar but remained the old guitar sound.

Very nice job...I have refurbished 25 basses, kept two...I enjoyed this video very much...thanks for all you have done...
If you need to fill anything in the future I'd recommend using drywall mud, it doesn't shrink like wood filler does.

I used to work at Gibson in the finish repair department. We actually used a heat lamp to bubble up and remove the finish. Just saying
"You poor poor quilted maple, I'm coming to save you!"
