@James Tierney I was going to comment the same exact thing but you beat me to it. There have been studies done that show that conservatives think liberals are wrong and liberals think conservatives are evil. And we shouldn't start down that path.

But his stance on gay marriage, his foreign policy, less pro 2A than most Republicans will ever admit, he became a full blown socialist in 2020, ruined the economy allowing Fauci to run wild (yes, he did, can't change my mind ) and approved the most dangerous vaccine ever created with operation warp speed while declaring a 50 state emergency that subverts the constitution and allows FEMA and the UN to step in and take over any day they decide to.
I wouldn't expect any of those things from a small government constitutionalist conservative.

I try to explain to my kids what conservatism is (they are of an age where conservatism is a dirty word) and I take two tacks: 1. Conservative and Reactionary are two different words and two different concepts. Conservative is inherently the most progressive movement, because it progresses not for the sake of merely tearing down the edifices of society but in order to give them value through action. It maintains a baseline where liberalism is constant tearing the baseline up through factional ideological arguments - its all very People's front of Judea v Judean peoples front. Reactionaries, of course, refuse to adapt from what he see as strict constructions of the past and this ends up being oppressive.
The other point is a simple, working definition of Conservatism "Thou shalt not govern just for the sake of governing''. Get the government out of situations the markets should be determining, get them out of your pocket and get them out of raising your kids and what you do in the bedroom. And don't allow them to invite their buddies in in their stead. The problem is Conservatives face is that the old witticism has become true - it takes 20 years of Conservative government to undo the damage of 8 years of Socialist government. That was Trump's problem - he was ahead of schedule on undoing the disaster, the utter disaster of Obama's regime, but he was swamped by this wave of trash. I Pit the poor bastard who has to clean in up in 2024. Conservatism is not a mode of government defined by rigid principle. Conservatism is a expression of personal accountability, and responsibility t community expressed through the consent of the people people to be governed via that consensus
"...anti-ideological..." is probably the BEST description of the conservatives that I know, as well as myself. It's knowing what's right, what's real, and what's good about maintaining patriotism.

Every country/empire has experienced what we are and have experienced. I would like to see a side-by-side comparison of how they handled these issues versus how America has handled them.
We’ve handled them the same way. We’ve allowed our borders to be erased, became too diverse, multicultural and ultimately feminized. All of this lead to degeneracy which all the great cultures have fallen to.

Conservative: Least amount of government interference in the person's life and pursuit of happiness.
Liberal: Government involvement in all aspects of a person's life

that's interesting - COnservatism generally I guess is a check/balance with liberal utopian ideals, which frankly likely will continue on for generations. And so I guess the debate of understanding what ideals conservatives hold to being sacred values to oppose liberal ideals is what the process of government should strive towards being - based without unity within the sections of political divides alongside the current cultural suppression of speech, there will be no more checks/balances to appropriate towards.
I like the break down of different types of Conservatism, I definitely fall into the Trump Populist category.

That's easy. In the ageless battle between good and evil, conservatism is the tendency toward good.
I like Knowles. He doesn't speak as fast as Shapiro, but he does think as clearly (and quickly) as Shapiro.
I wonder if conservatism needs some sort of defining points as its center. It's good to have different thinkers, but I wonder for conservatism to be conservatism, does it need to have a consensus on some things? (Juzt wondering.)
Perhaps not necessarily but a pattern would be better instead. Conservatism could be identified as those who adhere to a certain pattern of thought like for example Michael Knowles' definition that Conservatism is essentially adherence to tradition, not a consensus but rather a pattern of thought that references and is guided by tradition.

It's heartbreaking hearing Americans say they hate America. And, the start of the country has a lot of wrong but America is America because of those mistakes, because the wars that were fought for this freedom. How people can say they hate their country, burn the flag, hate the founders, hate essentially everything about it but still utilize all of the rights that the Constitution gives, is mind boggling to me that people don't understand the depth of how much freedom we have but are slowly losing. I wonder how these people would fare in a country where it is illegal to speak ill of your countries leader or how much freedom they would have to express their hatred.

Conservativism is not informed by man made ideology, but is informed by True Religion (true religion is not merely a category of belief, it is the objective rendering that which is due to God) that holds to True Tradition (the only two that exist that unequivocally do this is Catholicism and Orthodoxy --> literally nothing has changed). This does not mean the Church controls the government, but the formators of the government are formed by the Church. The legislature should not be beholden to Church opinion, but should be beholden to True Morality which only the Church appears to consistently teach.
I am always wondering if there will be another civil war or if many of the states will leave the union. Florida was one of the last states to join, it would make sense for Florida to leave as they are capable of independence.

Can we start with step number one, Please? That beIng, fiscal responsibility. I'm a straight white male, a lifelong atheist, Long sick of wokeness and a quadriplegic for 35 of my 51 years. I always felt myself and still feel I am a conservative but since about the mid 90s, I don't feel I have a party which represents my views. And when I really sit down and talk to people about what is most important to them, we generally agree. But there doesn't seem to be anybody willing to run on non-fringe ideas.
Ben needs to play the drinking game. That would be a fun discussion
