    Wolfhunter, your presentation of history, -shall we say nicely- features noble simplicity. (That is in opposition of outright distortion) After all, you have entered WWI in about 3 years late, and in the WWII 2 years late, beside there was the contribution of the Soviet Union and the British Commonwealth with all their Dominions, if you would care to share the limelight.
    Thank You and Good Day To You Too!

    I remember just before we got out of the bus, the NCO in charge told us there were only 2 ways you got out of PI, Graduate or in a box! Being I am 5 -4, us feather merchants always seemed to be running when we were drilling or marching to keep up with the big guys in front.

    When I went through boot camp at MCRDSD in 1976 we were issued two pairs of boots: one pair for PT and drill and one pair for inspections. No sneakers. We did everything in leather combat boots.

    Hey, that's interesting you mention something about the canteens and sickness. Now I want to make clear that I was never sick in the sense of being totally incapacitated, but I did struggle at times to drink out of those old, re-issued, canteens without becoming slightly sick. Did throw up a bit a few times during my time in the Corps. For the record, if I had a new canteen that I bought from a surplus store or if it was a regular water bottle, never had any problems.

    • @hoodieso8858
      @hoodieso8858 3 місяці тому

      I know a very old comment. However, I also felt sick initially during receiving due to the canteens. They're just used old canteens. One of mine actually still had sand and piss in it. Or chemicalizied piss. Which is basically canteen water. This coming from September of last year.

    Not necessarily. Add it to the end of ITB / MCT, so that people don't have to wait until the fleet to learn that shit. (unless you're a pog, in which case you're more than likely to never learn it in the first place)

  • @Creamer617
    @Creamer617 12 років тому +1

    @wilsontc123
    Thats incredibly false. Marine Corps training instills discipline, teamwork, and courage. Pretty sure all of those are required in combat. They learn even more about future combat environments and scenarios through MCT, SOI, and pre deployment training. Which currently takes place in Twentynine Palms, California specifically to help instruct Marines on how to fight in urban and desert environments such as the Afgan and Iraq. Boot Camp is the very basic training...you clearly know

    Actually, you'd have to go back all the way to the days of the ancient Greeks when warriors fought in close quarters called a phalanx. Even though C.O.D. is outdated and archaic in the combat sense, it still is functional for instilling discipline and maintaining your bearing.

    For some unknown reason superlatives roll of the lips of a Yank so easily, like a chirpy tune from a singing bird. Therefore, before I would join you in a hasty statement, I would like to verify the training of the Royal Marines, the French La Légion Etrangère and maybe even the Nepalese Ghurkas. (just to name a few) Otherwise, it would be more the testimony of my ignorance and arrogance, than a statement about superiority.
