These are so good. It's definitely the best all-round Corvette from the C8 generation. I've been saying since this was announced that it would be a "performance hybrid" and not some "gas saving hybrid" but I'm really excited to see it with the Z06 widebody. That's so great. Chevrolet *killed* it with this car.
A nice video. The term "Performance Hybrid" is clarifying and makes sense as terminology vis-à-vis the general focus on "environment" linked to hybrid cars with a lot of power. Other car manufacturers such as AMG should do the same.
This car is SOOO perfect! Looks, power-train, drive-train, price! You get a V8, a hybrid system, electric-only range, AWD, wide-body, and the best looking styling and wheels of the C8 range…for just over $100K!!!! For perspective, the NSX had similar offerings and great styling, turbo V6, AWD, but…for $150K starting, most were going for closer to $200K! This is a CRAZY bargain!
I think this car is spectacular and I'm going to get one if the dealer markup is not awful. I have been on the waiting list for a Carrera S at my local dealership for almost 2 years and they still can't or won't tell me where I am on the list. I'm surprised Doug doesn't rate it higher (2 on comfort - next to last overall) but I don't care. I love it.
Great review !! I'm wanting one real bad !! I'm loving the fact that the performance is nearly equal to a Bugatti Veyron, granted, top speed isn't 250+ mph , but 0-60 and quarter mile... Great Work GM !!

@@IBENOUTMYMIND I'm an endurance guy myself, so I don't know as much about F1. Their Hybrids are integrated into the engine/transmission assembly itself, so I don't think the E-Ray will share much in common. That's why LMP1 cars can explode out of corners (something I think is sadly missed because of regulations in WEC/IMSA). I really like this to be honest. Would be a really cool car to have with the silent driving feature for example. You get a hybrid but still get all the noise and drama. A little more range would be nice but still. Around 30 miles of EV range would be nice but I guess they need to keep the weight down.
The Europeans are all doing that now it seems - around 30-35miles of range with engine off. It's required by the new EU City rules where as the car approaches the city center, it MUST turn off it's engine automatically.
I'm sure there will be people doing after market adjustments to this. Doing something to tweak the battery or add to it in order to get 15-30 miles of electric only range. I'm not sure how difficult that would be, but the baseline hardware is already there to get you going.
This is the 1st Chevy that I would buy, as I'm a Porsche guy. Seriously. GREAT engineering & execution and finally, a C8 that looks terrific. With this underneath me, I would no longer be fixated on a Porsche; currently I drive a 2010 Panamera S and absolutely love it. Thanks Chevy

Your logic goes against your own argument 😂 I've also never heard anyone refer to these as Z06 C8, and I work for Chevrolet. Sounds about as dumb as saying Supra Mark 4 or E class w124. I litteraly rented a Corvette on the day this video came out during my holiday in Miami and instantly fell in love with the car. I cannot imagine how the E-Ray must feel. Probably even more amazing!

So far I haven't seen many stereotypical "Corvette guys" driving C8s. Most have looked younger than 50 to me. I'm 34 and have had mine for 3 years, and I've seen at least 2 driven by people my age or younger.
@@TORQUENDB same. I ordered mine when I was 34 and it arrived when I was 36. Most other owners I bumped into have been younger (35-50 range). It seems they are more car enthusiasts and less typical corvette owners.

So I’ll be flipping a coin on eray or the z06 as my next vette. I’m thinking the LT6 roar might offer more visceral experience even as a daily driver Waiting for more driver reviews since the reservation for the z06 is still awaiting increased z06 production
If you're looking for your next Vette to also be a daily driver go with the Eray. Z06s is a bit harsher ride in daily regular driving, especially the transmission. Clutch engagement is quite a bit more aggressive...But honestly the sound alone might be worth that pain haha
I would absolutely LOVE this - having moved to an EV (Ford Mach-e), I very much enjoy the instant torque. I had that on my anemic '16 Chevy Malibu hybrid from 0-20 miles per hour. This would be fantastic. I also saw Jay Leno's review. *sigh* one can dream...
In 10 years, this car will still be standing with its gasoline engine. Where will the mach E, and all these other fancy EV's, be when batteries need replacement and they are all in excess of the worth of the car? Shocking to me that companies have decided they're going to, essentially, be the Apple version of automotive waste while calling it 'green' but even more so that people are buying into this. Ford and Dodge have killed what made the Mustang the mustang and Challenger the challenger, but I am clearly on the minority. This is actually a really nice compromise I wish more manufacturers would introduce. Not everyone wants a vehicle that as of right now is far less effective in cold climates on multiple levels - staying warm and having advertised range is nice.
@@shakyjake213 I've heard about the range "issue" in places where it gets cold. Dunno. I prefer a BEV to my gas Lexus. Also, the myth of the battery dying after ten years is already being debunked. I have a vendor who recently bought a 2013 Tesla Model S with 140,000 miles. The battery had lost 10% of range. He spent $1000 to have it refreshed and now has more range than when new.
This is how all modern sport cars (maybe all vehicles) should be made. Gas to the rear, electric to the front. Then you can drive it year-round and in bad weather. My truck has AWD with the push of a button and it's amazing.
I like that it gives people the option to turn off the auto start/stop. Thankfully I don't own a vehicle that has auto start/stop. It would make me feel very uneasy if my car shut off every time I stopped at a traffic light.
I think the E-Ray replaces what was previously the Grand Sport in the Corvette lineup. In the past the Grand Sport had the Z06 widened fenders but without the Z06 engine, whereas today the E-Ray gets the Z06 body without the Z06 engine
If you showed a C8 to a non-car person, I could understand them thinking it was a Ferrari. It has always looked like in some parallel dimension, what Ferrari did after the 430. And now even more so with those wheels. I like it.
Ground braking. This will lead the way to other manufacturers keeping the soul and the fun to their vehicles while integrating eV technology. Doug said it " best of both worlds." "A place between the past and the future".

Lol what an idiotic comment. People who buy corvettes couldn't give less of a shit how fast it is to 60mph. It's about pulling power in a roll race and most importantly how well it performs around corners. And rwd cars murders awd cars around corners and from a roll.
This is how hybrids should be done, hopefully this sales good enough to encourage more performance hybrids
Maybe for sports cars, but not mass market cars. The EV part has to give you mileage benefits or there’s no point.
The quagmire “alrightttt” is a new quirk and feature of doug’s videos
That thing looks gorgeous. I have always loved Corvettes, but never owned one, however, I think Chevy hit it out of the park with the C8. If I ever win the lottery of something, a C8 would probably be the first car I get.
This thing is so cool I’m glad to see it being reviewed so highly !!
I hope to see one on the roads soon!! What a time we are living in!
AWD hybrid vette with a V8 😮❤
Cooooope
Is it being reviewed highly? Doug places the E-Ray #9 out of 10 cars on this list. He gives it a 2 for practical - why so low? I don't think he likes it that much. Reminds me of my old boss who would always say good things to my face but bad things in my written review.
@@georgehunt7715 It's fighting against cars that cost twice as much. It gets a 2 for practicality because it's a sports car with a tiny trunk and a tiny frunk. The Corvette C8 is reviewed highly everywhere, particularly in terms of performance value for money. The interior may not be as nice as a 911's but it'll keep up with that 911 while costing half as much.
@@bwofficial1776 Not just keeps up! Savagegeese did a head-to-head of a 911 992 GT3 versus a Z06 with both manufacturers providing people and the Z06 did ever so slightly better.

The "Z " Button is actually just a special button on the steering wheel that activates a shortcut to personalizied drive-mode settings, which can be configured though the center screen.
I daily drive a 2011 Ford Mustang V6 Premium in Connecticut. My wife has a Subaru Legacy, so in a pinch if I need it I have other transportation, but in the two years I've had the Mustang I haven't had to use it. That said, the idea of an all wheel drive American sports car, that has an Stealth mode to creep out of the neighborhood is amazing. I love cars and I like dailying a sports car. Happy to see things moving in this direction. Way better than full electric.
but ground clearance is still not enough to safely drive these in winter. Gm should produce one with more ground clearance, just like the 911 dakar and the huracan sterrato.
Let's take the time to appreciate Doug's hand gestures when he speaks on these cars....it's almost like he's conducting a concert when he's previewing these cars
Doug the kind of guy that lays on his TV and watches his bed

20:47 with that red paint and those chrome wheels, this car looks really great
the cockpit is so cozy and wild
it really stands out compared to any other Supercar
This isn't a supercar.
The interior is actually the worst part of new gen vettes. And the exterior is already aging badly. Not comparable with any supercar.
@@rustler08 That's your opinion
12:30 easlily the coolest thing ive seen this week. Every car with a screen should have all the gauges
They kinda overdid it with the 4 cyl C63(i think).
The engineers tweaked the C8 suspension to accommodate the E Ray's different weight distribution and power going to the front wheels.
I would love this or the NSX to be how sports cars are designed from now on. Functionality meets form.
I love it.
Agree.
Buy one. This version is going to be a collectors car in the future
Nice blend of electric and gas motors in on package. Love the all wheel drive aspect
Great review !! I'm wanting one real bad !! I'm loving the fact that the performance is nearly equal to a Bugatti Veyron, granted, top speed isn't 250+ mph , but 0-60 and quarter mile... Great Work GM !!
The E Ray Corvette has around 299kph top speed.
I’ve been on this since LMP1. I find it strange that GM didn’t make any point to tie the E-Ray to the Cadillac GTP cars. Hybrid is good. Really good.
I said something similar about this on another video also. I was thinking cadillac my use a version like this for their F1 team. I don't know what do you think? You seem like you know your shit.
@@IBENOUTMYMIND I'm an endurance guy myself, so I don't know as much about F1. Their Hybrids are integrated into the engine/transmission assembly itself, so I don't think the E-Ray will share much in common. The E-Ray takes advantage of one of the major strengths of hybrid tech which is awd without the need for a transaxle/tunnel. That's why LMP1 cars can explode out of corners (something I think is sadly missed because of regulations in WEC/IMSA). Long story short: probably no relation, especially since GM may end up badging someone else's engine as their own with Andretti from what I've heard. But you're a man of taste for sure!!
@Seyeler I was hopeful that they would produce their own engine and not have to rent a Ferrari engine and slap a V logo over it.. thanks for replying I definitely learned something. Be safe bud peace ✌🏾
Doug's the type of guy to talk about how responsive the infotainment system is while it's lagging noticeably
Give it to Chevy. Anybody can build a super car for a ridiculous amount of money. The Corvette is an engineering marvel at the fraction of a price.
Hey Doug, we need a garage and costs update. Not seen the Landcruiser for a while now.
Thanks for the great review, Doug! That's exactly what I want... "a cruiser that can also smoke hypercars at a stoplight." My ERay order is at the assembly plant, and I can hardly wait!
Congrats man. How’s your spec, what color ya gettin?
@@vitoscalleta4431 Thank you! My Stingray was a bright sports car color, and on my ERay I'm going for a sophisticated vibe but still with some flash. I want to provide all the details first on my website and UA-cam channel, though, so please come over there and join in on the fun!
Those wheels remind me of the optional ones on the C5, just with a bit of a literal twist on them. They look good.
This is going to go down as one of the most beautiful corvettes of all time. I think the 1957, 1963, 1975 and 2023 E Ray are the most beautiful.
GOD, that widebody looks so good with no wing on it at all. It's actually beautiful.
Cooooooope!
I'm sure there will be people doing after market adjustments to this. Doing something to tweak the battery or add to it in order to get 15-30 miles of electric only range. I'm not sure how difficult that would be, but the baseline hardware is already there to get you going.
It's not regular hybrid, it's a Performance hybrid; distance was never its mission...
@@aussie2uGA New EU regs are laughable. Well-intentioned but we're so far beyond the peak of diminishing returns at this point it's ridiculous
I love the colour. Not a huge fan of the modern Corvette styling but that red is awesome.
I'll never forget when my neighbor had to be rescued from his Cadillac XLR. Manual door releases are very important :)
They have manual releases inside the car. Reading the owners manual....
Lmfao a Porsche guy. With a 2010 panamera 😂
The very definition of "engineering". Smart, gorgeous and fast.
the electric motor sound was like a super charger whine THATS AWESOME haha
I think that sound is artificial
Am I the only one who expected a much higher Doug Score?
But it got almost the highest weekend of them all.
The eray is cheaper than the z06 and is better in terms of performance so how the heck does it get a point less in value?
There's no way a Cadillac CTS V can get an equal 'Cool Factor' score as this corvette. Also 1 point higher in 'Stylling' for the Cadillac? Doug been 🚬🌿 lately...
So in the case of the E-ray, the electronics are akin to forced induction. They’re just added power. Plus the AWD aspect gives it a more euro flair. Not bad. I think they’ve struck the right balance in priming corvette owners for the future to come.
I was just thinking it almost sounded supercharged.
@@JebHoge Supercharged? Well I mean it's almost supercharged like the ZR-1. Yet, I would think that the Corvette E-Ray is almost considered as the fastest Corvette ever (really thanks to its combined 655 HP, 595 lb-ft of Torque, and might beat the C8 Z06)
Won't look out of place in Monte Carlo.
This ticks all the right boxes and more.
Kudos to the team for the conception and execution.
Pure exotica with added practicality and drivability.
The most exciting American Car in Years
Can’t lie, the sound of the electric motor on top of the V8 rumble while accelerating sounded wild
I'm not a Vette fan and even less of an EV/hybrid fan but this THIS is unavoidably impressive and even more impressive that it's a Chevy product! Bravo to the engineers here.
I have a C8 Z06. It is FAR from a harsh ride, suspension wise. It's extremely streetable in the softest settings.
I have both a C5 Z06 and C8 Z06. 99%+ of the Corvette community and in online forums say it the way I say it, or even C5Z, C8Z.@Brian_Eugene_Lee
@Brian_Eugene_Lee Incorrect. C8 Z06. C8 designates the generation of Corvette, and is used in place of Corvette. You don't say Z06 Corvette, you say Corvette Z06.
@Brian_Eugene_Leeya....no C8 Z06, C6 ZR1, C5 Z06, etc...
@Brian_Eugene_Lee If C# is the model code naming structure used by both brands then why would it be any different. Your logic goes against your own argument 😂
I've also never heard anyone refer to these as Z06 C8, and I work for Chevrolet. Sounds about as dumb as saying Supra Mark 4 or E class w124. Generation always comes before Model, and that's the case with every brand
Z06 C8 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was just about my favorite car at the Auto Show this past spring. The ECHO ECHO ECHO in the studio is impressive.
I litteraly rented a Corvette on the day this video came out during my holiday in Miami and instantly fell in love with the car. I cannot imagine how the E-Ray must feel. Probably even more amazing!
AWD with a hybrid = win. I'm still waiting for the Zora to come out, if the model does.
This….is unbelievable. What a great car. Beautiful and cool, I’m 61 and have never wanted a vette, especially anything past a C4, mostly cause they are “old man” cars…and while I might qualify, I’m not giving in…lol…but this, well a different story for sure.
I think the "old man" stigma is starting to vanish with the C8 design. When I drive my C8 I get LOTS of attention from the younger generations.
Everything we called an "old mans cars" is because of price. Not too many young guys can afford them as a second car.
As a 15 year old I am drooling over the C8, and all of my friends too, the C8 for me is the C4/C3 for you
Something tells me the C8 ZR1 is basically going to be an E-ray with a Z06 engine and probably all the track-focused stuff from the Z06.
The sound of the E-ray at 17:35 of that electric motor and V8 Rev
Those are the best looking factory Corvette rims for the C8, in my personal opinion. They look amazing with that color red Corvette especially.
Erays a beast . Not sure if it’s as much fun as the crazy z06.
I daily my 2020 stingray z51 fe4 all year round without a problem here in NY tri state area for the past 3 years.
So I’ll be flipping a coin on eray or the z06 as my next vette.
I’m thinking the LT6 roar might offer more visceral experience even as a daily driver
Waiting for more driver reviews since the reservation for the z06 is still awaiting increased z06 production
Ford Mach-e 🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
@@chrism6880 You'd like to make an intelligent comment? I'm curious why you state this.

I love how the gear selector is straight out of a 2010s Honda/acura

This is how all modern sport cars (maybe all vehicles) should be made. Gas to the rear, electric to the front. Then you can drive it year-round and in bad weather. My truck has AWD with the push of a button and it's amazing.
I like that it gives people the option to turn off the auto start/stop. Thankfully I don't own a vehicle that has auto start/stop. It would make me feel very uneasy if my car shut off every time I stopped at a traffic light.
I wonder if they’ll ever make an all electric track focused Corvette. They could call it the E06…..
I think the E-Ray replaces what was previously the Grand Sport in the Corvette lineup. In the past the Grand Sport had the Z06 widened fenders but without the Z06 engine, whereas today the E-Ray gets the Z06 body without the Z06 engine
I think they should have called it a Grand Sport E instead of the ERay. Would have carried a LOT more tradition with it
@@fpnbrian But the thing is it has almost the same price of the Z06 so that would make sense, E Ray clearly tells what it is
If you showed a C8 to a non-car person, I could understand them thinking it was a Ferrari. It has always looked like in some parallel dimension, what Ferrari did after the 430. And now even more so with those wheels. I like it.
It's a great car, more streamlined than the previous. Beautiful.
Ground braking. This will lead the way to other manufacturers keeping the soul and the fun to their vehicles while integrating eV technology. Doug said it " best of both worlds." "A place between the past and the future".
That engine + motor sound is sick
After I get my Corvette E-Ray I’m putting a snow blade on the front. 🤪
I hate push button and twist knob gear selectors on cars, they ruin the feel and the first time you spill a drink on them they no longer work.
