Just ordered everything, swapping my SSD for 2tb Sabrent, clone tool, thermal pads and heat sink should arrive tomorrow! Pretty excited and glad I came across your channel!
How did it go?
Hope you enjoy it! Stay tuned for more. I have lots of new mod videos.
Man I absolutely Love these kind of videos, ill be watching part 1 and then part 2
Heck yeah thanks. I got more mods coming and a dock next week that you all will love
These thankfully worked! Just done it. Just amazing how it fit perfect! Awesome video man! Life changing for longevity of Ally!
Heck yeah thanks !
I’ve always wondered about adding a heat sink. This is an excellent mod that I am going to try when I install my SSD. Thanks 💪🏼
It’s worth it. Just read the tons of people who it worked awesome for in the comments
This was a great addition to my ally! Easy to do and had it done in like 5 minutes. Thank you for saving my 2TB drive!
Glad it helped! Stay tuned I have a new mod I’ve been recording data on for weeks now and will blow peoples mind lol.
Very easy mod to reduce the heat of any Asus Rog Ally. It worked like a charm. I ordered what I needed from Amazon. And did the mod yesterday. I could tell the difference in less heat immediately.
Thank You, CPPC TEK!

Just dropping a note to say thank you. I performed this mod (was admittedly nervous about clearance) but that heat sink size is perfect. Haven't done any scientific testing a but annedoctally, I am observing a significant difference in temperatures ar higher wattages. The system is consistently under 70 when i play most of my games (not on Turbo). Thanks for sharing this mod with us.
what size did you use?
Heck yeah thank you ! Glad you enjoy it
Same! Mod worked like a charm.... noticeably lower temps sub 70°c. More power to you. 👊🏼
Awesome video dude! I have some heatsinks lying around that I'll have to try out! Thanks for this!
EDIT: Congratulations on being featured on TweakTown, that's no small feat!
Thanks so much brother. Lmk what heatsinks you test and how the testing temps look!
@@cppctek Will do!
Now everyone ordering it, backordered until Sept XD
Oof. It may come sooner. Shipping is all being held back by delays at the ports so it’s giving extra time
I just searched for another 25x25x10 heat sink and it will be delivered Friday.
Installed one of these today and it was very easy and it is very much an improvement. I recommend this to others, thank you much.
Glad it helped. Check out my latest video for more mods
Keep up the good work
I have a slight bulge using 1mm gelid pads, and the same heat sink. Device wouldn’t close fully till the screws were put in. Not worried about it at all, just mentioning it for anyone else that finds the same. Thank you for the video!!
A slight pressure is applied via the backplate but you should be able to close it without the screws as I’ve shown in my videos. If not could be something a bit off try reseating on the backplate first
Man I never thought about this when installing my 2tb nvme, I'm definitely going to be ordering some of these once they're back in stock
Yee drop by on discord I’ll find you one. My discord link is discord.gg/Vk79TGRQ
Thanks for the video and the heatsink! yep the Copper heatsink was junk compared to chonky boy. I am so happy I did this mod!
Heck yeah brother ! Thanks for the praise. Glad you enjoy it
I bought the 25x25x10mm Awxlumv heatsink, they were out of stock before and in stock today :)
Heck yeah the pop in an out. A few diff brands are the same too if you can’t find that one
Hi just wanted to say thanks for this tip/mod for the heatsink on the SSD, works like a charm 👍.
I really don't understand all the negativity on discord about you & this mod...guess some ppl just have to be complaining about something.

Great video! Should I place thermal padding on the 2 chips on the drive as well, or is the thermal padding on the radiator good enough?
Awesome mod. I ordered a team group 2tb 2230. After seeing this video. Do I need to take the label off the m.2?
Heck yeah thanks. And nah leave sticker on. It’s not gunna change anything.
@@cppctek awesome thanks for getting back so fast.
Hey! Great video!! Did you try to puto some heatsinks above the apu also? Thanks!!
I did. I’ve done a bunch of mod videos and shown some lots of variations of it. I’ve got a few more mods cooked up so stay tuned
@@cppcteknice! And the heatsink above the APU is touching surface obly or the heatpipe too? Thanks!
Thank you so much for these amazing videos Very helpful! I’m working on my Ally soon with your guidance. But was wondering any future videos to help with STEAM DECK owners too? Thanks!
cant wait to try this on my ally thanks for all the great info man
Hope you enjoy it!
Operating temperature is the supported ambient temperature, in case of the NMVe SSD, the temperature inside the computer case.
It isn't the temperature the SSD is supposed to run at.
I was finally able to do this mod I had to rewatch the videos a few times
Awesome video!
I just have a question or probably missed it, do we need to get rid of the stickers from the NVME before putting the heatsink?.
Leave it on it won’t make any difference
Off topic question! Is the XG mobile port on top just an oculink port? Or is it a modified oculink port? I see mods where they replace the NVME drive with an NVME to oculink adapter and run an external gpu, through the backplate. Just wondering if the top ports are just normal oculink and usb C.
I saw the nvme to occu but I’ve got concerns of reduced bandwidth for both nvme and the occu.
I have a question. I just installed the new heatsink, works like a charm, but a bit of thermal pad about a size of a grain of sand in trapped in the ASUS and i can't get it out. I tried using can air to blow it out and hope for the best. Is that a problem?
P.S. I was a little nervous, but God gave me victory.
Thermal pads aren’t conductive so no matter where it went it’s fine. Your good brother. Amen
you are the best! had that same heatsink and 1mm thermal tape. should i remove the black covering the ssd or just cut the portion covering the ssd?
Don’t worry about removing the nvme sticker. Just be sure you’re only using 1mm thermal pad only between the heatsink and nvme. If there’s a pre applied pad remove it. You Dont need to cut the ally backplate. Halfway in my video I’ll zoom in and show the the back plate
@@cppctek the black cover that i have is what mentioned as black sticker in 34 sec on this video ua-cam.com/video/VtQ24SghjZ0/v-deo.html. is it safe to remove or just cut it to give way on the ssd heatsink?
Did you removed the whole black flap that was covering thr SSD and other components on the ally from stock? Or did you kept part of it on the SSD? Your ssd looks like it has partial coverage on it
Removed
The flappy part. It’s a dust cover. You don’t want it for cooling
@@cppctek thanks! Any concerns about dust buildup with removing it?
Thank you so much for this informative video. I was just curious, in your part 1 you used a 25x25x10 heatsink and now you are going with a 22x22x10 one. Is there a difference in the smaller vs bigger coverage size? Do you think the 25x25x10 Easycargo heatsink would still fit and be as effective? Thanks!
Check out my latest questions and answers Video. It will go over a good bit of stuff and help you a lot with the installation.
I bought the 25x25x10mm Awxlumv heatsink, they were out of stock before and in stock today :)
Any updates on this? I've been watching all your videos and love them all! Thanks for all of them!
All I run is the 2280 drives now with the angled adapter. Check out my latest videos. That’s the coolest running setup you can run
@@cppctek For the 2230 this is still the best option for low temps?
Hi, cutting a thermal pad to the exact dimensions, and placing it on top of the copper heatsink will that improve heat anticipation? Or not worth doing?
As long as it covers the drive you are good. Anything more it won’t help. Anything less and it hurts. Just cover the whole drive
I swear you deserve a subscriber
Thanks so much ! Check out the video I just uploaded ua-cam.com/video/8DjTrHzf6LA/v-deo.htmlsi=v9FuHj_YMhp2CcMS
I table sawed a Alienware laptop heatsink in half, shaved and filed down the heatpipes, and injected water vapor in each pipe. I modded the system to hit 54 watts as well. hits 90c at 54watts, 75c at 43 all while plugged in. The SSD doesn't even go above 50c lol.
lol woah !!! I’d love to see that!!! That’s friggin awesome brother. Are you in my discord ? discord.gg/HDXXtsBeDx

Nice video! Question, do we go for 25x25x10? or 20x20x10 for the heatsink?
Either is fine. But I like more surface area but should be the same essentially but within a degree or two
Thx for the video. Do you think this is really necessary for longetivity or is it more like a precaution just to keep the temps as low as possible? Have a good day and thank you for sharing your knowledge :)
If you are running a 2tb or 1tb gen 4 I highly suggest it because without it the temps do fall often outside of the manufacturers operating temp range. That said it’s never good to let any component esp storage devices operate as high as they do without the heatsink. The stock drive isn’t as bad as the 1-2tb drives so if you are stock it’s not as big of a deal but if you plan to upgrade I suggest it highly
@@cppctek Man youre the Ally King of the Internet! Pls keep u the great content, i am now upgrading to the 1 tb sabrent ssd and ill definitely install this mod too! Thx again
Is the 1mil pad necessary? They make .5mil which will slightly improve thermals and also be a little easier to fit.
Quite the contrary. .5 is worse thermals. I’ve tested it.
@@cppctekThat’s surprising, I’ve seen those pads used on GPUs (1080 ti, 4080, 4090 etc) and the thinner parts would drop the temps a bit. But I suppose the NVME is different.
Thanks for letting me know.
I was interested in the Team Group 2230 drive as it has a 1mm graphene spreader included, and will just "fit", and apparently it can reduce average of 7 degrees even up to 10, but the drive underneath is so shit that once the write cache is filled (and it's SLC cache like all 2230 instead of proper Dram, not to mention QLC instead of TLC) that it drops to 100 mb/s or under. That's ludicrous. That's QLC. The WD SN740 apparently drops at worst to 500 ish which is still sata SSD speed, but you can't buy them with a proper warranty as they are an OEM part. Then I was looking at the 2280 adapter but I keep asking questions at Reddit and so far not one answer.. I am trying to work out whether those 2280 right angle adapters and the Ally can take a double sided SSD, as I found a great Gen 3 one WITH Dram and crazy long endurance, ideal for main drive, and specs are 3500/2800 which is still absolutely fine for any game in existence but that also mean LESS heat. And proper dram cache means more sustained writes anyway, it never get worse than about 1500 no matter what. Don't let Gen 3 scare you for an Ally. Less heat is a good thing and I promise, between 3500 and 4500 read, you will not even lose 1 second between game loads, honest. This sort of Gen 3 vs Gen 4 game loading thing has been tested ad nauseum and it's been proven. These max speeds are only for large contiguous file reads and writes.
BUT, can I fit a double sided SSD in the adapter? If anyone is reading and knows, THANK YOU, as I have been trying to find out for over a week now, and I can't risk spending 325 AUD on a 4TB SSD if it's not gonna work. If I need single sided, there are less options and more expensive.
That also said, do not buy a 7000+ speed drive for your Ally unless you are willing to have the fans at 100% at all times, and even then. That small space, those speeds and heat generated, NO GOOD and not worth it, it will just throttle all the time anyway. Heck, I have the massive GT77 laptop here, which has pretty much the best thermals and interior space of any current laptop, and the gen 4, even with the built in heat pads to transfer heat, and a cooling pad blowing cool air through the bottom at all times directly onto the SSD, well they easily can hit 80 degrees and throttle just from file copying and pasting. In this massive deep chassis. Forget it in an Ally unless you are an uber modder and know how to create your own custom cooling/airway solution for it and don't mind blasting your warranty away.
Final Question, plug and play solution ,the Seagate 520n has come out, with 2TB and best endurance of all the 2230 2Tb drives, but there is not one single place on the web that says whether it's QLC or TLC or even if it has SLC caching. Seagate are a reputable brand and are dodging all that main info and it's one of the more expensive drives.. Yet the Micron 2400 also has 600 TBW and is QLC, so just because it has better endurance than the WD 740 and Sabrent Rocket etc, doesn't mean it's TLC.
IF anyone knows if it IS TLC, I am going to make life easy for myself, spend the premium and just get the 2230 Seagate 520N drive in 2TB and just call it a day. But I won't touch a QLC drive. it's amazing how impossible it is to find something out when you need to LOL
I tried a few new drives. My suggestions are a good single sided tlc drive. Ideally the ones that do around 5000mbps. If you get the 7400mbps drives they just run too too hot
Awsome video bro! I have a few questions:
1/ There is a black plastic cover that cover cpu and ssd. I'm curious if removing it could potentially harm the Ally or not? and what is the benefit of that black plastic? It seems like Asus has a reason for adding it to the Ally.
2/ I'm not sure if the heatsink fins could touch the back of the Ally and melt it.
The temps on this are no where near the melting point or even close. The backplate of the steam deck is 2x hotter than this lol. And the plastic is a dust shield. No worries
I just installed mine today and I noticed a very tiny bulge in the back of the device. Did I install it right. It doesn't move around or nothing. Was just wondering if the bulge is because the lack of room. I used 0.5 mm thermal pad
1mm pad works better
@@cppctek I got ya I'ma order
is it the best size 22x22x10 or 25x25x10? just concerned about he slight bulge, also noticed on your video that the heatsink is touching a bit of the black prat that connects the fans, thank you!
The 25x25x10 is my fav
Yo! First time i've seen someone use the same mouse as me, I've had problems trying to connect the Steel Series via bluetooth to the rog ally, do you know if its possible? Have you got it working?
It works fine. Just have to put it into pairing mode and pair it
Hey thanks for the videos, Is your SD reader functioning since you've had it since launch day? Im still looking at purchasing one but on the fence if I wait for Asus to do some sort of HW fix.
My sd reader is golden. I also have had a custom fan profile since day one and it keeps the area cooler. Check out this article. They reference and credit my channel lol www.tweaktown.com/news/92316/asus-confirms-the-rog-ally-handhelds-microsd-reader-can-overheat-and-malfunction/index.html
@@cppctek Thats awesome, it would be cool to see if the ambient temps are actually lower with your nvme mod, not only could it prolong the life of the ssd but may prolong the life of the SD Reader!
Idle temps are also lower by about 10c as well but it’s well below any worries and most folks won’t leave the system to idle at anything dangerous. But the sd reader best advice is run the latest bios and drivers and hit fixes ua-cam.com/users/shortsbSSCeXtviNY?feature=share

Cool back buttons, are these custom? I also noticed the stock back buttons only click when the back of the device is screwed in, so I wonder if this mod will cause any functionality issues with those.
My mod allows the buttons to click good but for sure back has to be screwed in and for sure I can screw mine down with the mods. I just didn’t feel the need to waste precious air time screwing it back together on camera
Bro i really loved ur content and channel after all vids i watched in ur channel i need the one advice from u . I got my ally 4days ago its running pretty hot while gaming on charger or 30w 90+C is it worth to mod the device i tweaked the fan speed to max and temp set at 80c max , i don’t know what to do i got doc and grips now from ur links the jaux one and I dont know if it worth to go into the temp modding and joystick 🕹️ one
A custom backplate will drop temps a lot. Jsaux with the heatsink or the handhelddiy backplate are good options. Watch my videos comparing them.

Hi, I noticed your SSD doesn't have the sticker on it, should I remove mine before applying the thermal pad? Or it doesn't affect much? Thanks
No need to. I don’t recommend it
My 2tb wd ssd, heat sink, and thermal pad arrive today… are you still finding this hack beneficial? I know you ran those stress tests, but are those temperature drops maintained consistently in real world use when playing for several hours?
I’ve used it for weeks now. No issues. 100% worth it. Watch my latest q&a video.
I noticed you don’t have that black cover over the mother board is it recommended to remove it or do I still follow your instructions here and put the heat sink on top of the black cover that’s covering the SSD
Leave it off. It traps heat in. Also it’s just a dust shield.
@@cppctek it has been removed and I finally did the mod. I didn’t run into one issue when following your instructions I somehow managed to dent my left fan pipe :/ I should have shaved off a piece of the corner but figured would go in perfect and bam dented it so I did it the other way and managed to complete it. My only regret was not keeping an eye on temp from before and after as I do play some demanding games on it. I maxed out GTA 5M and man I was shocked it kept at a cool 70 degrees like if it was stuck hahaha and that is when I knew this stuff is legit 🔥
@vegaf2011 heck yeah !! No worries on the dent it won’t affect temps at all. If anything temps on apu are lower due to less heat being trapped inside the area
I already have those heatsinks! Had them for years and now i have a use for them 🤣 by the way you were talking about vram at the end, what do you think Fortnite needs?? I like to have the graphics up as much as possible and get around 60fps which it does no problem but every now n then it crashes on me 🙄 I'm guessing thats a ram problem
Def open up the amd utility and look for the overlay it will show you ram and vram usage and you may find you are running out of ram
Where can I get information on whatever you did to the back trigger buttons?

So do you just cut a thermal pad and it sticks between the NVME drive and tbe new heat sink?
Correct
How tall are the black heatsinks u used? Was gonna see if I can order similar..if can gimme the whole size that'd b awsome!
25x25x10 10mm is the height
Im going to swap my ssd for the corsair mp600 1tb, would you recommend doing this mod also ? Looks like its going to block the air flow a little ?
Def do this mod or else it can thermally throttle. Watch my latest mod video from this week
Great Video! Is it possible to do this to the longer M2 NVME?
Thanks! Def. Stay tuned I have a guide for that too. I just got the 2280 adapter and testing temps and solutions now to see which is the most effective
Can't wait to see it! Thank you!@@cppctek
Great Video....... I could understand this process 2-3 months ago but for my 3hr research I found it better to get a 4tb Crucial P3 Plus 4TB PCIe Gen4 3D NAND NVMe M.2 2280 SSD [$205us]. Use M.2 NVMe heatsink, 2280 SSD Heat Sink Support Single Double Sided with Thermal Silicone Pads for PC for the SSD [$10us]. Use PCIE4.0 Transfer Board for Rog Ally Handheld SSD Adapter 90 Degrees [this will make the installation horizontal instead of vertical] $10us. So no need to cut any plastic or need to move antenna. Yes it's expensive but easier to install & you get close to 4tb, the 2tb M.2 2230 SSD is $200us [standard replacement].
This adapter for 2280 bottlenecks and drops FPS.
@vidaboa1010 that’s. It true at all lolol whoever told you that lied to you. The adapter does not drop speed at all on the nvme or transfer rates. If you used this nvme adapter and your seeing less fps that has nothing to do with the adapter. That’s a windows issue or configuration issue and you should not see a single fps difference. If you want to prove me wrong go ahead and take out all the variables by using the 2230 drive in this adapter and then on the ally, run benchmarks like timespy 3-5x in a row and average results, then run a few games in game benchmarks 3-5x each and then lastly use crystal disk mark to look at the drive speed test on each method
@@cppctek Do you have any videos that prove this? Thank you very much!
@vidaboa1010 don’t take my word for it, try it yourself. Proof is in the pudding. I can say just go look at my entire channel. Out of the tons and tons of people who follow me who have done that same adapter not a single person I know has ever had any issues with it. It’s a pcie 4.0 extension essentially. It does not do anything what so ever that impacts fps. It’s just extended the traces about an inch in length and unless you’re using a pcie extension that goes over a foot. Theres no way
@@cppctek I saw in this comparison here that there is a loss of FPS. Have you done any? ua-cam.com/video/JnOAAq3-s7Q/v-deo.html
Cant doubt the KING 💪💯🤣. Congrats on the feature 🙏. Do you think we'll be able get a front and back housing case like the steamdeck? Maybe clear?
Hey thanks bro!!
For the Ally … The back yes. The front is unlikely due to the screen being bonded to the housing pretty much. It’s next to near impossible skill level 10/10 to remove the screen from the housing. You’d have to find a new screen plus the housing.
@@cppctek damn! 😮💨. Well, at least something on it can be changed, lol. So the back will be clear and the front will be wrapped 🤣🤣🤣...got it! Lol
Hi do i remove the black paper or film thats covering the heatsink and ssd? 😅 i actually cut the nvme shape out so i have the heatsink and that film. Would it be a problem? I noticed only 5 to 6c difference idle.
The black sheet traps heat in. It’s a dust shield
@@cppctek oh... so it's best I remove it then? F...... I cut it too
What about the 90 degree 2280 heat sink will fit??
I did a few videos showing off the 2280 mods and what fits and what I use
Can I use the extra pads included from the copper heat sink on the new one?
Only use one thermal pad. Don’t mix pads ever.
Now I'm getting 56 in first crystaldisk run ang 58 on 2nd run. You are so cooll! You make my SSD cooler, without this mod I'm getting 90+. Please continue informing us the best we can do in this device. How about making cpu and apu cool project? RAM upgrade is also nice.
Hell yeah brother !!! I have some kids coming for sure to lower apu temps but thanks for trying it and enjoying this mod. Do me a favor, drop in this rog ally discord and ping me give me a shout with some screen shots or even just to let everyone else know it worked for ya discord.gg/rogally
Need your opinion: I got the exact heatsink you recommended installed. Got the backplate back on. Screws are aligned and screwing back in. There is a slight bulge pushing up on the back place. Barely noticeable and I'm not really concerned with that. However, do you think, overtime, that pressure pushing down on the SSD would be an issue?
Nah it won’t be a problem but dm me a pic on discord and let me see what ya got. I may have some tips for ya but it shouldn’t budge. Did you use the 1mm pad? Also if you got the heatsinks with the pre applied sticky tape did you remove that tape
@@cppctek Right on. Happy to send pics but I can't seem to find you on Discord. Perhaps Im just missing where it is listed. I used the pre-applied pad and I removed the layer that protects the sticky. The heatsink is sticking to the SSD.
@@andrewhunt9278 I got the same problem too, I couldn't get the back case to close, until I screwed it down (Not that I had to do it extra tight) and it seems to bulge a little too, but again hard to notice. Used a 25x25x10 heatsink and 1mm pad.
Just ordered mine and hopefully it won't bulge... That is the one worry I have.
What if the heatsink height is 6mm? I've seen some that are 20x20x6mm, that should be more than enough for the clearance? But it'll probably be a little less effective on the cooling side huh.. 🤔
Can I use size Copper Heatsink 25*25*7 ? What should I choose between aluminum and copper?
You can but the increased weight is going to make it come off unless you use the same thickness I used so pressure is actually applied to the heatsink. Without pressure the heatsink won’t transfer heat. Thermally with something that size copper isn’t much if any better than aluminum. Use a 20x20x10
did you remove the original sticky pad on heatsink?
Yes. I’m doing a q&a today so stay tuned for that. Be sure to check my latest video guide
Do u think the heat sink will eventually melt or disfigure the back plastic case?
Not at all. It’s no where near even a fraction hot enough to get close to it.
@@cppctek cool, I’m looking forward to receiving my parts so I can do this mod :)
Heck yeah man. Enjoy. It’s so worth it
How you get the controller temp hwinfo only shows me the drive temp
It depends on the drive and what sensors it has. Typically there will be two sensors listed one below each other
Will this be ok to use ? Gelid Solutions GP-Extreme 12W-Thermal Pad 120x20x0.5 I can’t find 1mm without it costing a bomb on Amazon (AU), and if required can you remove the drive with the heat sink attached or would you have to remove it first.
No .5 is too thin and won’t squish. Look for

It should. Just watch for clearance
what about put it on the apu plate? can it drop the temps too?
Having the nvme heatsink like this has seemed to lower apu temps. Fortunately even at 30w manual with this mod apu temps are no where near danger zone or worry level.
I’m new to the channel and I enjoyed the whole video and where can I get one of these.
Welcome ! Check my latest q&a video. I have more info and links too
I am gonna try this. Thanks for the video. Do you think 20x20x10mm is a better option since it allows for more space on the sides to air to flow through the board? or does 20x20x10mm not cover the entire SSD? Also, will there be a perf difference between 1mm and 0.5mm thermal pad?
1mm pad is ideal. Anything smaller and it doesn’t have the squish it needs to conform and fit. I’ve tested temps also with multiple sizes and 1 is always the best for nvme drives
@@cppctek thanks for the reply mate.
I am gonna watch the fan curve and other videos to set up the device. Got the device after 4 days delay by transport service provider :).
It's nice to have all the important videos by one content maker in one channel.
One last question, do you think they will be a difference interns of airflow and performance between 20x20x10mm and 25x25x10mm heatsinks?
Is it safe to remove the black flap over the Apu?
Yes it’s just a dust shield. It will lower temps on the nvme and apu by a few c in some instances
@@cppctek thanks! Keep up the good work, you're amazing :)
Thanks so much ! Be sure to check out my video I uploaded tonight and lmk what you think. ua-cam.com/video/czOZaQac3gY/v-deo.htmlsi=Q8BdJNaafoOrO3kZ
What is the purpose of the two black paper bits that block half the air vent on the back of the chassis?
Mesh dust shield
Nice, followed your guide and managed to do the mod without any issues (filed down the corner and there's no dents).
Has there been any longer stress tests done on the temps though? It does seem like it's reduced the temps on my device a bit but not sure how it'll fare during a longer usage session
Yee heck yeah man
Guessing buying a small click on fan is pointless??
It won’t cool the drive and most of those unless your running the handheld diy backplate won’t do much since no way to transfer it. Check my new mod videos you’ll find more updated info
Which has better M.2. 2 TB?
Also can you close it with screws?
Yes easily I just showed it snaps back together and there’s zero gap lol. There was no need for me to waste time on camera putting them in. And the best 2 drives I suggest are the wd sn740 or the sabrent rocket 2tb.
What are your thoughts on the inland drive from microcenter?
Would this improve gaming performance by any margin ?
It’s possible if the drive is thermally throttling enough or there’s enough heat being soaked back into the apu area you could notice a small hit on the 1% lows if drive is throttling but go check out my video I dropped this morning. Corsair and sabrent responded ! ua-cam.com/video/kzno_pL9N44/v-deo.html
@@cppctek Thanks.
Is a 1.5mm pad good to use as well ?

What about the black covering over the ssd card?
I remove the flap
@cppctek Are there any consequences for removing the dust cover over the boards?
@mechaxjoe no risk. I’ve ran mine since launch day without it. It’s nearly just a dust shield
will this affect apu temps too?
Yes it dropped a little bit off since less heat is trapped in the are. Stop by and see my new mod videos and cod ban videos. You don’t wanna miss them if you haven’t see them
Here's another tip to cool the ally down! On the back casing there's a mesh to stop dust n stuff, remove it and you'll quickly see they've covered half the vent with a solid black bit of sticker 🤣 now is it me or is there no point to this other than blocking a much needed vent??

Eyy, nice back buttons :P
Thank you thank you ❤️
@@cppctek if you have any feedback let me know, working on a V2
Ooo. Heyyyy you made those? Thanks so much. I’d love to talk further about some 3d printing stuff. A lot of my folks in my discord are very interested in printing. Also I’m really trying to find a good quality backplate file that I can modify. I just did a new mod where I slapped a 92mm fan on it and I’d love to have an actually backplate built for it. Check it out and lmk what you think. Also I’d love to
Colab on it if you want and could help both of us.Also my discord in the description

Did you see that they're making the same unit at another factory? I know because mine came package differently. And I'm doing the mad you are doing. Thank you so much, the new version. Which zaxi made enough fact becomes a cardboard box and then the rapping.
Thanks.
Im dead at this review.. amazing and useful info.. but raw dawg, copper boy, and chonky boi 🤣⚰️⚰️
Lolll hell yeah brother. I’m so glad you enjoyed it hahaha. Stay tuned. I got more mods coming n I’ll be sure to toss in some good ones ;)
@@cppctek new fav channel! Keep em comin
Thanks man! 👊
Is 0.5mm thermal pad good enough or do I need thicker
1mm is the gold standard sweet spot. For a bunch of reasons
@@cppctek ok I'll have to order 1mm. But can I use the .5mm until I receive it. Because the heatsink you said to get and the .5mm will be here tomorrow. I got the SSD today but I wasn't going to put it in until I got the heatsink. So basically what I'm asking will the 0.5mm do for now. The brand I ordered was DriftIce thermal pad. And I just looked the 1mm is temporarily out of stock on Amazon
Will the 25x25x10 fit without any modifications?
Yes
I ordered the 22x22. The 2nd to the last pin doesn’t fit the hole. Is there anything I need to do?
@khanhdotbui that’s why I said the 25x25 my brother.
I prefer use ceramic heatsinks, to not mess if something go loose..
THANK YOU🤟🤟🤟
No problem!! Be sure to go check out my new mods I’ve done
Hi, can i use a 2mm pad?
2mm has worse temps and back plate will buldge like hell
@@cppctek really? I didn't know that. Haven't received the heatsink yet , bought the thermal pad already, I'll probably need to buy another one then, by the way can I use more than 1 thermal pad by cutting and covering the heat sink? These are thin strips
do one for the long ssd
I’ve shown several videos on which heatsink im using on the 2280 drives.
it doesnt help that those XPG drives run hotter than a small sun.
Eh pretty much any drive that does over 5000 mb/s will run real hot anyways though. Most of the gen 4 drives just get super hot without some sort of cooling
@@cppctek very true. But those XPG ones seem to be just a bit warmer for some reason.
@Paradigmfusion eh depends on the drive you compare it to. I’ve got several that run hotter than the xpg drives. I’ve got around 20 diff nvme drives from various manufacturers and that’s just the ones I’ve got on hand I use or keep for storage or testing
Is anyone running a 2280?
They are but I don’t advise it unfortunately for a few reasons. It’s a bit risky having to cut your ally up and void the warranty
I hope it’s fit Lenovo legion go 🙈🙈
No it doesn’t unfortunately
@@cppctekoh :(
I salvaged heatsinks from a broken gaming laptop 😂
Oooo I’d like to see
The chip is WAY better
Im going to do this mod + a nvme 2280
Why 2280 tho. That’s sucha mess and doesn’t last as long as you instantly void your warranty because you have to cut the shell
@@cppctek that's true, I will like to find this adapter to save the warranty.
