I can build pc’s, repair them, and use them really well. I taught myself how to code in python and am learning C++ rn, but doing somethin like this is just 😱🤯. I learned the foundations of what I know from my dad who was a wiz at all this stuff but he died when I was like 12 and I never got to learn soldering from him.. and I kno there’s SO MUCH more to it than that too, it’s really the whole electrical side of things that has always baffled me. Like I can’t read a schematic to save my life and I have no clue how all those transistors, resistors, capacitors, and diodes come together and make what appears on my screen. How those millions of electrical signals traverse and send and receive data and everything. It’s rly mind blowing to me and it’s been one of the biggest frustrations throughout my life. I really hope I’m able to learn this someday!
I have Micron memory on my ROG Ally. I ordered Samsung memory chips. What additional steps are needed to replace Micron memory with Samsung chips? I have read that a resistor needs to be moved...
I would get this in a heartbeat if it was easy to update the bios.. is there a socket that can be fitted on the allys motherboard, for easy removal into a programmer if needed?
I’ve been mentally thinking about how I could extend the bios chip to a easier to easy access spot, so you don’t have to totally disassemble the unit. Though if you’re able to dump, edit, and flash the bios then chances are taking apart the unit wouldn’t be an issue for you.
@@SlickBuysModsandRepairs taking it apart isn’t the issue, unfortunately I developed a bit of Parkinson’s in my hands and just can’t solder like I used to

Thanks so much
I don't understand what you're saying. The boosted memory clocks have a marginal difference on overall battery life. The Ally uses PTM as it's cooling solution, thermal paste would be a downgrade.
Makes me hope they do an oled update with more ram at higher clocks and move the sd card slot that is literally all it needs for perfection maybe a battery bump but I don’t even care the ram at 16 gigs is a shame it illicits a ton of stuttering in most games just to starving the gpu and cpu of memory
The reader doesn't need to be moved since that wasn't the issue the controller to the reader is on the other side of the board that had weak solder joints and would break over time from thermal stress of hot and cold. Asus has since fixed that issue in later models but if someone with an older model has issues they're recommended to reach out to support to RMA it to get fixed.

This is a widespread issue for Ally owners, if you could make a video for the community on how to fix this, we would really appreciate that.

Thank you! I recommend to my customers that they skip Asus updates so as to avoid overriding the edits I make to the bios.
@@SlickBuysModsandRepairs what would we be missing out on by not doing bios updates after this?
It would revert back to only using 16 gb ram @@ZionRanch
Damn where do you go to learn something like this??? Shit like this is crazy! And I work in IT too and I consider myself pretty computer literate.
Yes, you will need to swap the location of the strap resistor. You can email me and I’ll send you the location of said resistor.
@@SlickBuysModsandRepairs taking it apart isn’t the issue, unfortunately I developed a bit of Parkinson’s in my hands and just can’t solder like I used to
Hi, can you tell us about perfromance gains please.
Could you try 90wh battery mod?
That will be one of my next videos.
hello. Do I absolutely have to remove the bios chip to flash the bios? Or is it possible to modify the HEX value in the bios update deployment program?
Thank you very much for sharing your efforts for everyone.
At the moment the bios has to be modified via hardware. A software method hasn’t been done yet.
oh thank you for your kindness.. i have to buy one thing 😢
And I'm too lazy when it's just a stick switch with 32gb in the drawer waiting on me to switch. This is crazy work for quicker ram!
Hi,
I tried to flash the bios chip without desoldering. I did it in the bios and menu Ez Flash V3 with two different sufixes (bin and 337) but every time I get an error. select file is not a uefi bios. but when I do with original file there is no problem and these errors are not shown.
My question: I absolutely have to de-solder the bios chip? or my file is not prepared properly. Can you please send me the bios file for version 337?
I am very grateful and if necessary tell me how I can practically thank you.?
But have you done before and after performance testing? That would be lovely
Not on video but I did do some quick comparisons. Games ran smoother and I saw a slight FPS increase (5-10).
Run star citizen. I get a thrashing issue because the ally doesn't have enough RAM.
Fantastic job
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you very much for your great teaching. I have another question, you wrote in the description that before we start everything we have to turn off Bitlocker and Secure Boot, I would like to know whether after everything, when Windows will boot up again with 32GB Ram, we can use Bitlocker and Secure boot again switch on, or they always have to stay off.
Thanks so much
I don’t see any mention of disabling Bitlocker in the description?
For complete improvement, there is not enough battery with increased WHrs and cpu boost ,and change the thermal paste
I don't understand what you're saying. The boosted memory clocks have a marginal difference on overall battery life. The Ally uses PTM as it's cooling solution, thermal paste would be a downgrade.
@@SlickBuysModsandRepairs stanks, I didn't know of this
would it be possible to upgrade the ram speed but not capacity to avoid having to remove the bios chip? or is it required regardless
Asus has since fixed that issue in later models but if someone with an older model has issues they're recommended to reach out to support to RMA it to get fixed.
this is fuckin beautiful

What's the performance like? Anything noticeable. A video would be cool.
Significantly improved 0.1/1% frame averages and a bit of an average frame boost. 5-10 frames from experience.
@@SlickBuysModsandRepairs Thanks! I was wondering because apparently MSI's new handheld will have 32gbs of RAM and I was wondering how much of a difference that would make. Right now with 16 GB it feels like we're juggling system RAM and vram around depending on what game is being played but if you have enough RAM for both I figured performance would improve.

So in terms of updates…you only give up the future OEM BIOS updates and not the windows/asus software updates correct?
Yes, unless Asus packages a BIOS update with a firmware update. Thought I'm pretty sure they don't.
i think asus would do well making this an option, i mean 16gb of ram is ok for most computers with dedicated gfx , but when u are dedicating 6-8 gb of ram to the gpu in an apu, it really gimps the operating system . i have 6gb set to the gpu in mine, and it doesnt leave enough room for the os in alot of cases . im highly interested in this mod, tho i would hate to spend the coin to have it done, and 3 or 4 months later they release some bios update that allows some new features or better gpu performance, and not be able to use it. i am very interested tho, thank you for the upload, you have my attention hard buddy. are you doing this all by yourself? i cant imagine you having 500 of these units show up at your doorstep one morning lol, any rough idea on the turn around time for this service?
