- In this leather craft video I make my possibles pouch with a little tooling trick and help from my Xtool P2 CO2 laser cutting/engraving machine. I'm definitely using this trick for my holsters and knife sheaths from now on! But I'm not throwing away my swivel knife just yet!
Let me know if there's interesst in the pattern for this bag. I may make it available on my Etsy page. This video would serve as the tutorial.

The fine line definition resulting from the laser burn really makes the whole design jump. I like it. You can see a big difference between the petals that were knife cut, and the ones not.
Agreed. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
Another great video!
There are a couple of channels I watch, not only to see master craftsmen turn out beautiful work, but because there is something that's actually very soothing and relaxing about watching the process.
Yours accomplishes both of those aspects. Beautiful stuff.
Wow, thank you!
Just when you think you have seen it all, then you come along and knock another one out of the park. I really love this pouch
Thanks iamnoone! You've been a long-time viewer on the channel and I appreciate that.
Wow, you do such nice work, love your finished pouch, the tooling looks great. Thanks for sharing the tips too!
Thank you very much! And thanks for subscribing!
Really love your videos and creativity... I'm always waiting to see what's next lol!
Thank you so much! And thanks for subscribing!
Wish I could get a holster made by you for my Glock 29 and Colt Anaconda. Fantastic video as always.
When you said engrave, my brain screamed "WHY?!? Make it a score and skip the knife!" LOL
Beautiful work as always. I learn something from every one of your videos.
PS... I also have a P2. You should definitely clean the 2 front mirrors and the lens. They do get dusty.
Thanks for the tip! What do you clean them with? Alcohol wipes? Microfiber cloth? Will I need to readjust the aim again? (The procedure where you put tape over the little hole in the module to see if it burns in the center)?
@@RoadAgentLeather if it’s cutting good, you shouldn’t need to realign the mirrors. Alcohol is good for cleaning the lens and mirrors. You only need to do the front 2 mirrors. The back one by the laser tube doesn’t really get dirty. It’s hard to describe getting to the lens, but Samcraft has a good video about the process. It only takes about 5 minutes to do it all.
You're not alone, I've been using my laser to layout patterns for a while, precision is unmatched, works great for quilt and basket weave patterns also, once you draw a few up they're easy to manipulate in lightburn for different sizes. Awesome work as usual!
That's an excellent tip! Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
Gorgeous! I learn a lot watching your tooling closeups.
Thanks! It's actually pretty difficult to get the close-ups like that. Half the footage ends up being unusable because of the wrong angle; the spot I'm tooling shifts out of center view; my hand gets in the way; the maul hits the camera, etc . . .
Thanks for answering the questions about using the laser for the purposes of carving/tooling. I was going to do the same think myself, but I don't have a project that requires tooling. I am also looking into the Leather Tattooing Machine for carving.
Glad it was helpful! Yeah, I've seen that tattooing machine. Haven't tried one though.
Interesting idea. Using a swivel knife is one of the processes i enjoy the most. Its a unique tool and unique to leatherwork mostly.
Im generally uninterested in lasers in leather amd wood work. I can see the benefit in mass production though.
Dang you do beautiful work! Thanks.
Thank YOU for watching!!
great video.
Thanks for watching!
Very nice Bro.
Thanks!
@@RoadAgentLeather little smaller and would make a great Copenhagen Pouch 👝. lol
The lines are perfect and crisp. I like how you hollowed out the peddles on their tips. Gave it great depth.

Lol. Exactly. Thanks for subscribing!
Super clean design. That's a great little belt pouch. I'd love to see a pattern for it in a larger purse size too.
Just one question - what is the purpose of the strip of leather you glued to the inside? I've never seen anyone do that before.
It adds structure to the gusset. You could make the gusset from a single piece of thicker leather and skip gluing in an extra piece, but it would be little harder to stitch and shape. Thanks for watching!
Schöne Arbeit klasse super ✨️💯👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Can you please do more knife sheaths
More are coming! Make sure to subscribe!!
@@RoadAgentLeather I am, love your videos
Do you have any video where you go into the process of doing the computer work to generate your patterns? Or could you possibly recommend videos that would help? I’ve long wanted to get a laser to similar projects to what you do but I’ve hesitated because of the learning curve of the software. I think it would also be beneficial to be able to digitize my personal design to share them.
Yes! See my video on that exact subject: ua-cam.com/video/F4ta0ZcmVCY/v-deo.html
Thanks!
Awesome work as usual! When you are beveling the lazer lines does it seem like it cut as deep as the swivel knife or is it more just stamping along the line? Either way it looks great.
Your channel and your work is awesome, I have just started my journey with leather and a laser and am curious how you deal with the soot and charing? Do you clean it with the saddle soap? Wouldn't it change the color of the tan of the leather or cause blotches? Beautiful pouch. Thanks for sharing with us all. Greg
Some of it can be mitigated with the laser's settings. Low-power, faster, and multiple passes will char less than trying to slug through with a single, slow, higher-power cut. A lot of the soot can be simply wiped off with a damp sponge. Sanding will remove even more. Melamine foam (Mr. Clean) pads can gently buff off some too. Laser-cut stitching holes can be cleaning out by adding extra length of thread to act as a pre-swab while sewing. But ultimately, there will be some discoloration. Unless I'm dying the leather a light color (or leaving it natural), I don't worry too much about it.
Thank you so much for taking time to answer my question. You do beautiful work, I always look forward to your videos. I wish I could subscribe a million times..... lol Greg
This is the exact video I’ve been waiting for. I have lots of patterns. What is your process for turning a paper pattern into a digital file that can be used with a laser cutter?
Check out my video where I discuss that exact process! It's the shoulder holster video from a couple of months ago.
@@RoadAgentLeather thank you. I saw that video. And it was very helpful in designing the overall cutting area. I’m an old lady who has tooled leather since the 70’s. The pattern for the tooling is a bit more intricate and I can no longer see well enough to do the cutting. Laser engraving the tooling pattern is what I think would help me.
Pattern please!
The more I watch your videos the more I’m convinced I need an XTool. That looks like a major level up for a leather shop
For sure! SO many possibilities with a laser. If only to make repeat, super-accurate cuts. That's why I originally wanted one.
Nice tooling. Can't wait to see what you'll do next. Love your videos.
Thanks 👍
if that grate is metal on your machine i bet some magnets would hold down the leather while you're lasering. love the channel, keep up the amazing work.
Thanks for the tip! I often spray down the leather I'm cutting with water to help with that too.
Have you tried putting a backing into the leather before voting with the laser? Using double stick tape and a stiffener of some sort might help keep it down so it doesn't get messed up. Just a thought
I usually spray down the leather with water before cutting. That usually does the trick to keep it from curling up. I just didn't this time.
What do you think of the conveyor belt extension option? As a leathersmith, do we need it?
Of all the accessories for this machine, that's the one I'm most interested in. I could see it being useful for cutting out larger patterns (think larger bags, backpacks, etc...) I also do occasional woodwork; definitely can see a use in that.
not that it takes a lot of time to swivel knife the design but that is still a timesaver especially on a really big, detailed pattern. thanks for sharing
for sure. Then there's the repeatability aspect. Thanks for watching!
Bom dia lindo trabalho

Any chance you have a double holster cowboy rig or any plans on doing one?
Beautiful work, as always!
Hi
First comment!
@@RoadAgentLeather yehey🥳
Nice !!
Very cool.
Do you thin down your antique to be able to apply it with a brush? mine always seems too thick to apply it that way.
It may be because it's regularly over 100 degrees in my garage!
As usual with you work. You have made a beautiful please of work. Thank you for allowing use to come along with you in this creative journey.😁👍👍👍👍👍😎
