I can tell you from experience if you don't replace a faulty knock sensor on one of these 3.3 Nissan supercharged engines, two things will happen: 1. Your engine will lose power. The timing will be retarded to avoid any potential knocking. My truck does fine for the first 5 mins of driving until it gets up to temp, then it loses power like crazy because computer kicks in and retards the timing. 2. Because of the timing retardation, it does not burn fuel correctly. Doing this long term will cause your catalytic converters to eventually fail. This little $15 part - left unfixed - will result in thousands in repairs.
you can relocate the knock sensor, I did it on a 2002 nissan frontier s/c, just get a connector and splice it to harness where you cut the old one,i relocated mine to upper intake with a 12mm bolt.it take less than an hour and you have to take very minimum stuff off.
I hear this vg33 engines are built like a tank. Only issue is the knock sensor. That is the main problem they have, and to just install a knock sensor somewhere else.

I got mine out by reaching back there got my hand on the harness passed a small screw driver down I'd it to push the release on the connecter slipped it out i only did this because i wanted to do the knock sensor relocation, but wanted the factory harness left the old knock sensor in place it's not in the way saved myself having to remove the lower intake, it was a bitch at first once i passed the screwdriver down to myself it was off in 10 seconds... this is only beneficial oid your relocating the knock sensor

I just bought an 02. Pretty car but pretty much worthless....gas guzzler and mechanical problems with supercharger. Oil leak and can’t purchase a new seal, have to replace the entire supercharger (part $1200. Plus labor.
I had a 99 pathfinder and the engine lasted till 189,00 miles. It was parked and some guy crashed it. Never had a oil leak. Only issue is the knock sensor and a torque converter solenoid.
Yo lo cambie 2 veces y al tiempo volvia a fallar... a la tercera lo cambie de posicion y fin de los problemas!!! Nunca mas volvi a sufrir, ese sensor la Nissan lo puso ahi solo para dar problemas y obvio ellos y los mecanicos ganar dinero.

Excelente! Esa es la unica manera de corregir ese error al engañar a la ECU, habia escuchado que fallan por la mala calidad de gasolina que venden pero bueno yo lo reubique y nunca mas me volvio a prender la luz de Check Engine.

Yes they are reliable i have a 2002 nissan frontier 4x4 supercharge it has 95k miles im the original owner no problems just do your maintenance
