    "Don't do it this way?" Aw, C'mon, man, to me, you're a brain surgeon: procedure executed beautifully and resourcefully, well done!
    I doff my cap to your skills. [Great music too]

    Just about to change mine! Went with the super duper NGKs cause I don’t want to do it again. After your video and looking at everything today, the number 4 looks the worst 😞. Hopefully it all goes well for me. I sure do love my Frontier. Bought one brand new when I was 18 in 2002. Had to trade it in 09, but I just picked up the same Color and body style as the one I had except this one has the SC!! Always wanted it back in the day.

    Great video.
    I took my Intake, SC and lower plenum off to install new NGK wires and couldnt figure out which wire went to which cylinder. Thanks for the video! It Solved my questions!
    Cylinder 1&2 use the short straight wires

      I think the hardest part was getting the #4 spark plug wire out of the way.

      Yea I agree I'm gonna do away with the metal coolant lines that block those plugs and run just rubber coolant hose

    I had a question does the motor oil supply the supercharger with oil?

    • @poweredbyexplosions
      @poweredbyexplosions 8 місяців тому

      Hey there! Great question! The supercharger actually has its own oil separate from the engine, but Nissan doesn't officially specify a method to change it.

    Does this apply to a 2004 model? My dad just got one used and plugs need replaced and it appears they will be a challenge.

      I believe so! As far as I'm aware all the VG33ER engine bays are the same.

      @@derekcat awesome. I just called our local Nissan dealer and it was going to be $489 plus tax just for installing plugs!!!!. Id hate to see what it would be for something major like a timing belt or set of gaskets.
      We may end up selling the thing because its pretty terrible on gas and if basic tuneups like that are going to be that high, its not worth having the thing. Gas hand seems to drop by the minute driving that thing.
      We just finished spending $150 on a pulley replacement thst didn't solve a squeaking issue. So next we got a belt, but these foreign cars man are ridiculously difficult to work on due to the confined space and all the stuff to have to work around. Nissan wanted $400 to replace the pulley, and we've got a new belt , ans that would probably be another $200+.

      @@lolmetswhathappeneduhhh2029 Oh dang! I can see them charging a lot to do this, it is a huge pain and probably longer to do by the book (based on that quote I'll guess it was 3 or 4 hours of book time - removing the throttle body and such).
      Yep, timing belt would probably start with much of the same work by the book (removing throttle body and associated pieces), so maybe double?
      Haha, Frontiers are notoriously bad on gas - even the second generation (2005-2019) is only barely better than these VG33-based trucks. My NA VG33 Frontier only averaged 14.8MPG, and my Supercharged one is at 13.0MPG! They make my rotary powered cars look like econoboxes by comparison!
      Oof! I'm sorry it's giving you trouble!
      These first generation Frontiers have essentially the same frame as the old Nissan Hardbody trucks (1986.5-1997) - you can actually bolt the Hardbody bed on them! But the downside is that they still have the old dimensions for everything (designed with a 4-cylinder in mind). Nissan even claimed that they couldn't fit the VQ V6 (from the 2005+ Frontiers) in this frame, so it's definitely a bit tight with the V6.
      They're not too bad to work on - except the spark plugs - but they do lend themselves more to small hands in the engine bay. :)
      Definitely splurge for the high grade Iridium plugs if you do it - you don't want to have to go back in ^_-

    How do u like the super charged version I have a opportunity to buy one 2002 in a nice burgundy body color

    • @derekcat
      @derekcat  3 роки тому +1

      Hey there! The SC Frontier has quite a bit more grunt, especially off the line. My previous Frontier (NA VG33) felt pretty gutless all the time.
      Considering both, the smarter thing is probably to get a D40 V6 Frontier (2005+), as they have 261HP vs the SC Frontier's 210HP, plus the engine looks like it should be easier to work on for basic things like the spark plug job.
      The Supercharger does make a pretty cool noise though ^_-

      @@anthony_sasquatch8056 No problem!
      Haha dang!
      What're you looking for in a secondary truck?
      I've only gotten into the Frontier game about a year ago, so I can't speak to the reliability too much personally. Bought the NA@176K and the SC@212K, but I only use them to haul the SeaDoos, occasionally pick up gravel, or large boards from the store. So not many miles added yet.
      Oh also the fuel economy is pretty awful. The NA averaged 14.8MPG for the time I had it, and the SC (which requires premium!) is currently averaging 13.1MPG.
      Still saves money over paying the Toyota premium though! haha
