Nicely done. Am about to start the same project on a '96 Pathy R-50. Hope the bolts/nuts/studs are as kind to me as yours were. Thanks for doing the video.
Good luck Brotha! If manifold nuts/bolts are stubborn don't brake or strip them. Better heat up them to glowing hot then undo them with good/quality fit socket. Otherwise drilling and tapping new studs will be way more work if fastener brakes
@@PistonShack Thanks. Good news it only has 130K miles on it. Bad news is it is 27 years old. I've owned it since 65K. Heat shields appear to be in really good shape but you never know. Gonna pull them off and look for the infamous crack(s). You're absolutely right about heating the nuts/bolts/studs. If I have to pull the passenger manifold off, think I'll get the engine nice and warm first. But you know how exhaust systems are.
Thanks brother! Your video helped me to change the broken exhaust manifold on my Xterra. Easy to follow!
You are more than welcome!
@@PistonShack MERCI)
thaaaaank you thank you thank you THANK YOU!! I have a 200 nissan xterra and I have to do this to it. thought it would be harder but you make it look sooo easy man. thank you. 👍👍👍✌✌
You're very welcome!
Did this crack cause you any hesitation/stuttering? I've gotta decent size crack on my passenger side and its being replaced this weekend. But I'm wondering if its causing my hesitation during cruising, light acceleration. Skewed o2 readings maybe?
I won't say crack cased hesitation or effected engine power performance. Such a large exhaust leak from the broken manifold caused loud low exhaust sound and fumes were getting inside the vehicle. No issues with O2 sensors noticed.
Yeah I swapped out my passenger side few weeks ago and it stopped the leak but not the hesitation. Oh well, needed to be done.
Gracias amigo buen video
Merci Daliel!
any thoughts on removing the passenger tire and wheel well to access the passenger exhaust manifold?
You're Awesome!, thank you.
You're very welcome!
A question for you. I just did mine and drove like
half a mile and I look and notice some smoke coming out of the Manifol.
Is that normal?
Good job
I tried. Thank Davis!
I hope you see this soon, what are the gaskets that you need for the tail pipe
Hi Arp, there's gasket between "Y" pipe and tail pipe and between manifold and cats. You can get them from any autoparts store or online. Let me know it this reply answered your question. Cheers.
Thanks a ton my guy!
Would love a video of the drivers side manifold being done
Hi Steve, One day, one day my friend) On drivers side more stuff to remove. I will film if I will do it! Happy Holidays to you and your family!
@@PistonShack thanks man. Happy new year
Excellent video. I have an 01 Xterra. No exhaust issues but the cat heat shield bolts and manifold bolt are rusted off and rattle over a bump. Can I list remove them or am I asking for trouble?
I won't suggest to remove heat shields off. I had the same issue before. I put large hose clamps to keep shilds tight. No rattling noise any more.
I used a very large hose clamp (worm clamp) around the whole manifold. works fine
any idea if 2012 would be similar? starting the process but looks very tight, of course the manual suggested engine removal. :(
I am not sure. Do you have 4.0L v6 engine? What side are you working on?
Is it the same process for the 2002 Pathfinder with the VQ engine?
I guess so, shouldn't be much difference. I haven't done it on Pathfinder. Let me know how everything worked out. Cheers!
That's a different engine from this, so I believe the process will be different.
is disconnecting the catylist from the down pipe required to have the space to remove the exhaust manifold?
Yup, there is not enough room for removing manifold. You need to take catalytic converter off first. I tried to avoid to do that but didn't work out.
Volvo_SHACK okay, I appreciate the reply. I’m working on it right now. I’ll let you know how it goes 👍
@@joshuac1364 Great!
Volvo_SHACK update: everything went together fine. I also had to disconnect the catalytic converter completely. The only difference for my truck was I had an additional downstream converter and not a pipe... I couldn’t completely remove it so I had to move it enough and eventually had the clearance to access all manifold bolts. Thanks for the video!
@@joshuac1364 That's awesome! My congrats you got the work done ✔
Thanks for letting me know)
Dude you crack me the fuck up that none of your bolts break it's almost too good to be true my friend lmfao. I would advise everyone before starting to prepare for bolts snapping and praying to some lord Jesus lmao. The manifold aren't the problem it's those 3 on the Y pipe etc but nice job man.
Hey Nick! It doesn't happen to me very often but this time I was lucky) Thanks for your feedback brotha! Cheers!
I just replaced my manifold this morning, broke one of the Y pipe bolts so now it's loud from there but at least the new manifold is on and it's purring nicely. Now to find some bolts to tighten the y pipe flanges to the down pipe.
How badly and what damage is done to the head if the bolt aren't tighten or loosened correctly. What if I brought a used truck that some fast Eddy gave up on becuase they attempted a manifold service without seeing ur video. 😆
Yup, I know exactly what are you talking about. Fixing after someone else is not fun at all. Btw, how is repair going?
@@PistonShack I haven't started it yet cause I have other issues going on. I been trying to pay someone more knowledgable than me to help but good help seems hard to find in TN which must be why there are so many volunteers...LOL...
Can’t watch… music making me crazy
I'm struggling to get to bolts 3 and/or 5 ? I suppose that why you had to remove the cat back pipes?
Hi Darryl,
Well, to remove bolts 3 and 5 you can do it with wrench or socket from underneath far as I remember. But to pull exhaust manifold out you have to remove down pipe straight after the cat. Then undo the cat and pull cat 2-3'' down to get enough room to remove the manifold. It has been 2 years since I done it. I needed to watch my video again. I'm replacing clutch on my Xterra right now.
Let me know how everything is going.
Great video.
Thanks)
@pistonshack guessing its the same for the r50 pathfinder with the Vg33
Oh, yeah. That's the same VG33E engine.
what about the ones that have the exhaust with integrated catalytic converter ? Its not sold at O reyles in CA?
Hi Morales, I have no idea. I guess it should not be much difference. Let me know how everything is going with your repair. Cheers!
Scary thing to see those big logos that read "China" on the replacement parts...
engine bay is extremely similar to the VG 4.0L.
That's interesting, I didn't know that. I have 5.6 V8 Nissan Titan it looks way different than 2000 Nissan Xterra! Thanks for your feedback.
Tightening order 11:22
That's helpful) tried to include all important parts of the replacement procedure. Cheers brotha!
My 2004 Exterra has four catalytic converters ,
Mine has only two, hmm! Your Xterra more environment friendly!)
Why tf do I have crossdresser ads popping up when I'm trying to watch a repair video!?
I'm not sure, good question.
😂 those only pop up after watching them. Don't worry, no one will know or think strange things.
Exposed yourself
your vehicle don't have 200000 miles of chloride and salt rot for 20 yrs worth no challenge there,
Xterra has almost ZERO rust underneath. Yup, you right. No challenges fighting with rusted fasteners and parts. We don't have any salt on a roads.
what kind of video is that no French words cant do a job like that without
Je ne parle pas assez bien français pour faire une vidéo)))
I doing the same process but one month later all my nuts a loss
Hi Garcia! Well, now you need to get new nuts) You can get metric nuts from any auto-parts store. Cheers brotha!
