    Nicely done. Am about to start the same project on a '96 Pathy R-50. Hope the bolts/nuts/studs are as kind to me as yours were. Thanks for doing the video.

      Good luck Brotha! If manifold nuts/bolts are stubborn don't brake or strip them. Better heat up them to glowing hot then undo them with good/quality fit socket. Otherwise drilling and tapping new studs will be way more work if fastener brakes

      @@PistonShack Thanks. Good news it only has 130K miles on it. Bad news is it is 27 years old. I've owned it since 65K. Heat shields appear to be in really good shape but you never know. Gonna pull them off and look for the infamous crack(s). You're absolutely right about heating the nuts/bolts/studs. If I have to pull the passenger manifold off, think I'll get the engine nice and warm first. But you know how exhaust systems are.

    Did this crack cause you any hesitation/stuttering? I've gotta decent size crack on my passenger side and its being replaced this weekend. But I'm wondering if its causing my hesitation during cruising, light acceleration. Skewed o2 readings maybe?

    • @PistonShack
      @PistonShack  5 років тому +1

      I won't say crack cased hesitation or effected engine power performance. Such a large exhaust leak from the broken manifold caused loud low exhaust sound and fumes were getting inside the vehicle. No issues with O2 sensors noticed.

    • @94EglVisionTSI
      @94EglVisionTSI 5 років тому +2

      Yeah I swapped out my passenger side few weeks ago and it stopped the leak but not the hesitation. Oh well, needed to be done.

    Excellent video. I have an 01 Xterra. No exhaust issues but the cat heat shield bolts and manifold bolt are rusted off and rattle over a bump. Can I list remove them or am I asking for trouble?

    • @PistonShack

      I won't suggest to remove heat shields off. I had the same issue before. I put large hose clamps to keep shilds tight. No rattling noise any more.

    is disconnecting the catylist from the down pipe required to have the space to remove the exhaust manifold?

    • @PistonShack
      @PistonShack  5 років тому +3

      Yup, there is not enough room for removing manifold. You need to take catalytic converter off first. I tried to avoid to do that but didn't work out.

      Volvo_SHACK update: everything went together fine. I also had to disconnect the catalytic converter completely. The only difference for my truck was I had an additional downstream converter and not a pipe... I couldn’t completely remove it so I had to move it enough and eventually had the clearance to access all manifold bolts. Thanks for the video!

      I just replaced my manifold this morning, broke one of the Y pipe bolts so now it's loud from there but at least the new manifold is on and it's purring nicely. Now to find some bolts to tighten the y pipe flanges to the down pipe.

    How badly and what damage is done to the head if the bolt aren't tighten or loosened correctly. What if I brought a used truck that some fast Eddy gave up on becuase they attempted a manifold service without seeing ur video. 😆

    I'm struggling to get to bolts 3 and/or 5 ? I suppose that why you had to remove the cat back pipes?

    • @PistonShack
      @PistonShack  4 роки тому +3

      Hi Darryl,
      Well, to remove bolts 3 and 5 you can do it with wrench or socket from underneath far as I remember. But to pull exhaust manifold out you have to remove down pipe straight after the cat. Then undo the cat and pull cat 2-3'' down to get enough room to remove the manifold. It has been 2 years since I done it. I needed to watch my video again. I'm replacing clutch on my Xterra right now.
      Let me know how everything is going.
