Sir, I wanted to give you my thanks. Spent $75 on a WP SxS off of Facebook market place. Pictures showed it cold inside with a pic & thermometer. We paid for it, got it home and nothing but hot on the inside. Found this video, watched it a couple of times and went thru the troubleshooting procedures. $75 next day air got me a new thermostat & switch to my doorstep. She's blowing cold air now.. I can't thank you enough for taking the time when you did to put this out there for the laymen trying to save a buck on a service call.

Your fix for the cooling side of the refrigerator not cooling anymore and replacing the thermostat was brilliant! You diagnosed it correctly for me and my refrigerator and save me probably $500 going out and buying a new refrigerator. This was a $15 cost and about a 15 minute fix for me. We have a fridge that looks exactly like the kind in the video. No compressor or fan running at all. Skipped the power check (had working lights). Followed step by step. Everything checked out okay to the last step. It was, in fact, a problem with the defrost timer. Replaced the timer for $25. It's running again! Can't thank you enough!

Bill, Thank you for all these video on Whirlpool. I swap Cap and Relay and still it didn't click my compressor. I unplug my thermostat and checked ohm on it. After reattach my thermostat, it clicked and started. I hope this will fix my issue. My whirlpool ED5FVGXWS05 i didn't find that timer turn on whole. Not sure what click my compressor to start. Again, Thanks a bunch. My repair cost is $18.00 for Cap and relay.

Bill good video it helps a lot but on my Whirlpool side by side not working right I already replace the cold control thermostat and also replace defrost control board it works for hours the stops. the freezer side stops and refrigerator stops working as well.

Your vid helped me troubleshoot a bad thermostat. Instead of a multimeter I used a non contact ac voltage detection pen . touched the outside of each wire at themostat and it beeped on 1 but not the other so power was entering the thremostat but not leaving. I smacked thermostat and fridge came on and now beeped on both wires of thermostat. i ordered themostat thx

Bill, I have a Whirlpool Gold mod: GS6SHAXMB00. It's not cooling or freezing. When apply power, I compressor comes on and the fan connected to the compressor runs fine. I've replaced the startup relay and capacitor. All the lights and dials inside light up. However, I did notice that the fan I normally hear from the inside, is not running. If I turn the refrigerator thermostat all the way down to off, everything stops running, including the compressor. When I turn the thermostat back on, I hear the fan inside, running, but never here the compressor kick back on. And then the internal fan stops running after about 1 minute or so. If I unplug the unit and plug it back in to apply power, the compressor and it's fan come back on, but the internal fan does not. Thoughts. Could this issue be pointing the thermostat or Defrost timer?
i have a jenn-air model jsd2690hes that is not cooling compressor and the fan on bottom is constantly on and i do not hear anything else running like the fans inside and also my apples were frozen while the rest of fridge was getting warm thank you for your help
I had a whirlpool without a mechanical defrost. Has a Adaptive Defrost Control (ADP) circuit board. It was a bad solder. You have to take it out & cut the protective black plastic separator to see if a solder is bad. Mine was. You could see the ring around the pin. I re-soldered it, reconnected and BAMM! Fan & compressor started.
what black plastic cover? my circuit board has a white cover that says OMRON on it. and there are the white plastic covers on the spade connectors that connect to the board.
Hi Bill, (WRS325FDAM04) stopped cooling on both freezer and fridge. Replaced cracked compressor fan blade, and compressor start relay kit. The fridge still doesn't cool, even though the compressor runs, compressor fan runs, and condenser fan runs. Took back panel out of freezer side and there's nothing on the condenser. Could the defrost timer get stuck in defrost mode? Or would it be more likely to be the temp sensor has failed? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here's the complete story behind this. Other readers might find it helpful. We bought this Whirlpool ED25TEXHW02 side-by-side refrigerator in 1995. In 2016 it stopped cooling. Both fans were running, compressor was hot, but not cooling, apparently not running. Replaced the relay/overload/capacitor combo with no improvement. This was a little surprising, because if the compressor gets through the first year, it will usually last forever. I found a statement on the internet to the effect that these models had a small run capacitor but no start capacitor and that as the compressor aged, it simply wouldn't start. It was stated that replacing the combo with a Supco Hard-Start kit RCO410 would resolve the issue. But one tech cautioned that this was only a temporary solution, to keep the refrigerator running for a week while waiting for the new one they sold to arrive. Another conceded that it "might" run for six months if the homeowner needed to save the money for a new refrigerator. My thought was that the original combo was underdesigned and eliminating the start capacitor was simply a bad cost-reduction decision that could be remedied. So I set the new combo aside and installed the Supco RCO410. The refrigerator ran fine from 2016 to 2021. And then it stopped again, with the same symptoms. So I ordered another Supco RCO410 from Amazon and installed it. Sure enough, it started cooling immediately. About 5 minutes later, everything stopped: compressor and both fans. Dead silence. My first thought was "What now?" Before I could even think about it, I watched your video, matched symptoms to the defrost timer, and rotated it. Ta-da! It's running again. I don't even think the timer is defective--just happened to be right near the defrost cycle when I changed the startup kit. (I'll keep an eye on it.) Hope this saves someone from junking a perfectly good refrigerator because of a bad design decision that can be resolved with a $12.50 part that anyone can install. (And even better news: the new kit has a solid-state relay instead of electromechanical, so it may last longer than the old one.)

I have followed step by step changing the defrost timer in my Whirlpool refrigerator. The problem I'm having is my defrost timer has 6 contacts and uses two plugins, one has four and the other two. I have ordered this replacement part on several occasions getting two different styles. Both of them required one plug with four contacts. One was a flat clock type, the most recent replacement was a flat clock like with electronics such as a circuit board. Your description does not include a 2008 model refrigerator what are the extra two contacts for? How do I order the proper part?

We moved it from one location to another and now we can hear it running but it won't cool, at all! During the move, the fridge was laid flat in an SUV. Actually, oil in the compressor gets in the lines. Usuall have to let the unit stand in upright position long enough for the oil blockage to drain back to the compressor. Some say let it stand as long as it was on it's side, some say 24 hrs. I say the latter to be sure then plug it back in.

I have a maytag MSD2550VES00 side by side refrigerator. The door was left ajar by someone putting in something too big and the door to the refrigerator stayed open. I thought it was broken so I moved everything out and since it was an extra refrigerator decided to wait to fix it. I noticed the GFI tripped and I reset it but when I plugged it in it does not work. A friend came over to look at it that does AC repair and he said there was no power to the compressor, the condensor fan or the freezer fan. But the Lights do come on. Any ideas of what could be the problem?
Hi Thanks for the video. I have a whirlpool ed25qfxht00. It was over cooling so I lowered the temperature and now it is not cooling at all. The fan in the lower right back is not spinning and there is no noise. The door light comes on when I open the door and I tried turning the timer with flathead screws driver but nothing happened. Any ideas?

hey there bill i bought a new whirlpool fridge WRF560SMYM not t long ago the motor is running well but i think the fan are frozen in the bottom freezer cause it was making all kinds of noise yesterday night but stopped all of a sudden
Would it still be thermostat if only 12 coils freeze in your freezer? Nothing else freezes. The compressor is running, the evaporator fan in the freezer is running. Fridge isn't cool and food doesn't freeze. Thanks Cindy
We've got this exact refrigerator. Sometimes I come home and notice it isn't on ave the ice is starting to melt. It will sometimes come in when I tap the control board (where the temp controls are). What needs fixing for this issue?
I turned my defrost timer button a tinny little bit before i found out it needed cleaning is it going to defrost now or did i mess up the timing on it like i said before it just needed cleaning.

My 20009 whirlpool has a electronic panel where the defrost should be. Does it take the place of the mechanical timer?

... pressed and held the “Lock” and “Measured Fill” buttons together for 5 seconds and it reset. It worked! Where are these buttons located?

Mine was the compressor relay that went bad. Everything else was working fine. Might want to add that on any future video.

We bought this Whirlpool ED25TEXHW02 side-by-side refrigerator in 1995. In 2016 it stopped cooling. Both fans were running, compressor was hot, but not cooling, apparently not running. Replaced the relay/overload/capacitor combo with no improvement. This was a little surprising, because if the compressor gets through the first year, it will usually last forever.
I found a statement on the internet to the effect that these models had a small run capacitor but no start capacitor and that as the compressor aged, it simply wouldn't start. It was stated that replacing the combo with a Supco Hard-Start kit RCO410 would resolve the issue.
But one tech cautioned that this was only a temporary solution, to keep the refrigerator running for a week while waiting for the new one they sold to arrive. Another conceded that it "might" run for six months if the homeowner needed to save the money for a new refrigerator.
My thought was that the original combo was underdesigned and eliminating the start capacitor was simply a bad cost-reduction decision that could be remedied. So I set the new combo aside and installed the Supco RCO410. The refrigerator ran fine from 2016 to 2021. And then it stopped again, with the same symptoms.
So I ordered another Supco RCO410 from Amazon and installed it. Sure enough, it started cooling immediately. About 5 minutes later, everything stopped: compressor and both fans. Dead silence. My first thought was "What now?" Before I could even think about it, I watched your video, matched symptoms to the defrost timer, and rotated it. Ta-da! It's running again.
I don't even think the timer is defective--just happened to be right near the defrost cycle when I changed the startup kit. (I'll keep an eye on it.)
Hope this saves someone from junking a perfectly good refrigerator because of a bad design decision that can be resolved with a $12.50 part that anyone can install. (And even better news: the new kit has a solid-state relay instead of electromechanical, so it may last longer than the old one.)

I have followed step by step changing the defrost timer in my Whirlpool refrigerator. The problem I'm having is my defrost timer has 6 contacts and uses two plugins, one has four and the other two. I have ordered this replacement part on several occasions getting two different styles. Both of them required one plug with four contacts. One was a flat clock type, the most recent replacement was a flat clock like with electronics such as a circuit board. Your description does not include a 2008 model refrigerator what are the extra two contacts for? How do I order the proper part?

what if it is a newer model and instead of a defrost timer it has a defrost board, can that be tested just like the timer does?

I have a whirlpool ed2vhexvq01 The evaporator fan works and the coils are getting white fuzzy ice on them air being blown is a little cool but not Freezing. The refrigerator parts does not get cool at all and the freezer doesn't freeze. Please help as it seems all the things in this video did no resolve my issue. Hi, very helpful video,! We have a fridge very similar, if not the same, as the one you're working on in this video. We moved it from one location to another and now we can hear it running but it won't cool, at all! During the move, the fridge was laid flat in an SUV. The coolant settles out of the coils when the fridge is laid down. It needs to be in the compressor area before restart.
Actually, oil in the compressor gets in the lines. Usuall have to let the unit stand in upright position long enough for the oil blockage to drain back to the compressor. Some say let it stand as long as it was on it's side, some say 24 hrs. I say the latter to be sure then plug it back in.
Hi Mr Newberry. My niece has a whirlpool refrigerator but it’s freezer is on top. The compressor is working and so is the freezer fan but it’s not working properly. Like the freezer won’t freeze and the fridge won’t cool? It’s warm. Model number is WRT106TFDW01 do you think you can do a video on how to troubleshoot or repair that type of refrigerator?

I have a maytag MSD2550VES00 side by side refrigerator. The door was left ajar by someone putting in something too big and the door to the refrigerator stayed open. I thought it was broken so I moved everything out and since it was an extra refrigerator decided to wait to fix it. I noticed the GFI tripped and I reset it but when I plugged it in it does not work. A friend came over to look at it that does AC repair and he said there was no power to the compressor, the condensor fan or the freezer fan. But the Lights do come on. Any ideas of what could be the problem?

Thanks for the video. I have a whirlpool ed25qfxht00. It was over cooling so I lowered the temperature and now it is not cooling at all. The fan in the lower right back is not spinning and there is no noise. The door light comes on when I open the door and I tried turning the timer with flathead screws driver but nothing happened. Any ideas?
You may have a bad stat.Jumper wire to jumper out stat.If that works,replace it the thermostat.CHEERS.

hey there bill i bought a new whirlpool fridge WRF560SMYM not t long ago the motor is running well but i think the fan are frozen in the bottom freezer cause it was making all kinds of noise yesterday night but stopped all of a sudden
Would it still be thermostat if only 12 coils freeze in your freezer? Nothing else freezes. The compressor is running, the evaporator fan in the freezer is running. Fridge isn't cool and food doesn't freeze. Thanks Cindy
We've got this exact refrigerator. Sometimes I come home and notice it isn't on ave the ice is starting to melt. It will sometimes come in when I tap the control board (where the temp controls are). What needs fixing for this issue?

I turned my defrost timer button a tinny little bit before i found out it needed cleaning is it going to defrost now or did i mess up the timing on it like i said before it just needed cleaning.
