Rod I think you named the tender without realizing it..."Comin' Along" is primo! Only thing I can say is you have a lot of faith in that chain and rope being clean letting it slide through those precious digits of yours. We live on a 45 foot yacht with a draft of 2.1m. we have motor/sailed the channels from Southport to Moreton many times, and haven't run aground yet (touch wood), the trick is to try and time it so that you are passing Jacobs Well at high tide, the tides in the channel flood in from both directions and meet at Jacobs Well (which is approximately half way) , so you will have the current helping you get to Jacobs Well then carry you back out. We use navionics on an ipad, the "autoroute" feature will show the correct track. Happy sailing

Just discovered your channel today. As somone who's recently dreaming of owning a small sail boat with very little experience, this has just been fantastic viewing. Cheers from the UK.
Last weekend when there was no video of the new boat I was devastated! It's become a family tradition to watch the new Rocket video with Sunday breakfast. So happy to see you back
This channel is going places, with a solar/satellite wifi/supply base such as this you could camp multiple islands in a single trip. Perhaps even comfy enough for your family to join in on the fun. The vicarious adventure perhaps the world needs right now. Stay blessed and safe out there brother🙏
I remember seeing Misty for sale. It was on my shopping list but you got there first. Looks like you got yourself a nice boat. Anyway keep an eye out for a bright red Hobie trimaran on the Broadwater and I'll give you a wave. All the best.
Too be able get on the water with no engine noise(most of the time) is pure heaven in my book best of luck to you rokkit I will keep watching with interest
Excellent video as ever. If you get a lot of light wind days maybe invest in a drifter, a large jib that can catch the most of the breeze. Hope you have many happy days sailing.
Moved away from the coast many years ago. I yearn for the sea all the time. As a fisherman and camper, your videos scratch that itch, soothes me and keeps me close to the ocean. Cheers from Johannesburg, South Africa.
Definitely need a stern anchor on your side rod. That way you won't swing in the wind or the current and you can get yourself set up how you would like
It's just fascinating to see this great Swedish boat navigating on these latitude!! Love your boat, your landscape with sandy beaches and wonderful blue water - and your accent! Inspiring video - keep up the good work!
Advise you to pull the engine prop up when sailing, your speed will increase quite a bit. There is no rope on a boat, only line. You should pull the dinghy out of water at night/when not using for long periods of time to keep the bottom from becoming covered in growth over time. Creating a 3-4 point lifting harness and using the main sail halyard & winch will make it easy to bring .5m out of the water alongside.
You're so right about the cost to fun ratio of a sailboat being WICKED high. Stoked to see what you have coming, you definitely have lots of space for some comfortably long trips!
One of the only UA-cam channels I like the video before I even watch because I love the channel no matter if it's fishing or not. Keep up the awesome work Rod!!
If u tie a bucket or droug on a shortish rope of the back of the yacht it will pull it in to line with the flow of water and keep your anchor line away from your boat bottom also tie a small float to bucket or drouge to stop it from spinning or snaging the sea bottom as the boat will naturally lie to current or wind what ever is stronger or a combination of them happy sailing love it
I am learning from your videos. Enjoying every sail as a gift. ***I have seen people put fenders and/or balls attached at intervals to their chains/lines to keep them from hanging up in coral or on the rudder. ***flexible screening and magnets keep the "no-see-ums" away. easily rolls away. 👍🏼 Thank you. 😊⛵️💕🌎
I didn't know the deckhead literally came up on those things! Seeing that, the first thing that strikes me is to add a collapsing screen mesh to the rim, so that the opening all around is screened-in when the deckhead is raised, and you get to enjoy light and cross-breeze without inviting all the mozzies in for a snack :D
I think the same solutions that people live in van use can be applied in your living space at your boat especially the kitchen area. For all metallic utensils, strong magnets to avoid them clanking and making noises during wavy nights, also prevents knives from just flying around. They can also be used in the doors to avoid them popping open out of the blue. Also works on your pans and other cookware
This really adds another dimension to your adventures; it is ridiculous how much I look forward to your videos. She is a really pretty little yacht and is great for your fishing trips. Thanks for the uploads.
You need a heavy line that does not float at all...for the anchor. But in this case with the wind and current doing their thing...it might be inevitable that the line gets stuck😘
When anchoring over 100 ft many fishermen invest in an anchor buoy (to reel in the anchor) 12 in or so for your size anchor, maybe more, to float the anchor while pullling it in. But such an anchor buoy could also stop the anchor rope from catching on that spot on the keel. Anchor buoys also have many practical applications, especially for a skin diver, or mooring your dinghy while sailing around your secluded island destination. Sounds like a lot of fun!
Love Misty, mate!! Looking forward to her adventures. Have you thought about a twin anchor system? One in front, one in back. You still have the old anchor, you could tender it out after dropping the forward anchor
Congratulations on your first night at anchor.... its a wonderful experience. Mine was a freezing cold one , diddnt dare to put the heater on... not sure of the battery condition... did a test next night where shore power was available,,, batteries turned out to hold up perfectly... never a cold nigt at ancor since (Norway) best regards from Jarle
One thing you might want to think about is a boom tent/boom screenhouse. You can get a cheap screenhouse and just drape it over the boom and tie it off to the stanchions/lifelines. Then you can leave the companionway open and have a great, airy night's sleep. Just found your channel as I'm interested in getting a sailboat on the Great Lakes of the US. Fun stuff! RE Flatties at night; Ive had pretty decent success with a buoy with a bright, downward facing light. the ghetto version is those cheap ali LED torches you get from bunnings, 3 to a pack. gob the lens, switch and threads up with silicone (put good batteries in it), and bash it into the hole of a crab float. put a few big sinkers around the torch to keep it pointing down, and teather from the bottom. it brings in water fleas, which keeps schools of minnows around. which keeps the flatties around. let it bake for an hour or so, and then flick a lure thru the light pool. I usually tether it about half my cast distance from the shore, in about 1-2m. Ive only ever caught good sized flathead in my area doing this. a similar thing can be done in deeper water if going for squid. given where i usually fish is pretty devoid of structure, anything you can do to make a feature helps. I cant say I had anything to do with it, but there is a Community artificial reef coming together out there. mainly parts of brick wall, concrete pipe, n lashed together milk crates. whatever stuff is heavy, safe to dump in the ocean, and wont get destroyed by winter storms. nothing for miles but sand and seagrass, but all sorts of interesting species out on that spot.
