Great video. Thanks for the memory. I’m 78 years old and sailed a Newport 16 in the late 70’s at lake Murray ,outside Columbia SC. Red hull, similar rigging and had a Sears kicker . Sailed the lake and Atlantic at Edisto Island sc, put in at Helena Sound. Fun rolling in with the tide. Hope you and family enjoy your adventures. I’ll look for more. Oh! Named. “ANY DAY”
I love your videography. It's lovely to see the big and the small of things, the close-up and the long distance perspective you capture. Unable to get out anymore. So, thank you for taking me where I'd love to go! I love sailing, so seeing the lines, the rigging, the "tiller clutch"-great idea, makes it seem that I'm on board. Thank you!
Thank you so much! I am happy that you felt like you were on board as I love to share my experiences in that way. It’s an amazing world we live in. Thanks for watching!!!
I love your videos. I'm a professional cinematographer and an ASPIRING small sailboat wannabe. I have friends that sail the world but what you do is more appealing to me. I'm was raised just outside of Yosemite and still live here. I've got friends that sail the world but I don't think I'd ever fall in love with that. The way you sail small waters and share it with us is awesome. And the way you're raising your kids is what this country needs more. PM me if you want to, I'd love to BS more about camera stuff or small sailboat stuff. Well done.
Thank you! I’m definitely an amateur videographer but I really enjoy it and aspire to improve. I have never sailed the world but I’ve definitely fallen in love with the small sailboat lifestyle and it allows me to have grand adventures and also live in the woods that I grew up in.
Thank you so much. We are very new to the whole video process but are trying to improve with each episode. Encouraging comments keep us going! Thanks again!
Glad to have found your channel. I’m in Spokane and explore these same waters with a power boat because I couldn’t talk my kids into a sailboat. Keep up the good work!
Great video I have lived west of Portland for 48 years and have never visited your area. I am going to have to make it over what a beautiful place. Thanks for sharing 👍👍
You should definitely check it out. We are grateful to live where we do. You are in a beautiful area also and we plan on heading that direction for some adventures at some point! Thanks for watching our video!
i think its shape of the hull on newport that will make it faster less drag more rounded ,the potter has chines on bottom bigger area more drag but less heal more stable ,loved the skateboarding you guys have many talents, accrued by not sitting watching television for hours on end everyday
I think you’re right, the Newport has a much smoother wetted surface! We may try a larger headsail on Johnny’s boat to give him more power , because on paper they are supposed to have very similar hull speeds! It will be fun to see if it helps. And thank you for the compliments!!!
I lived and sailed out of bayview for 30 years. Now live abroad a Bristol corsair in San Carlos mx. Love your video. It beings back many awesome memories.
Very cool! We have really enjoyed Pendoreille and have been sailing from the Bitter End marina for the last 5 years after learning in a balboa 26 and Ericsson 30+. We hope to make it south of the border someday to cruise. Thanks for watching!
Yeah there’s short clips here and there of the inside but I’ve never really given a tour. It’s very basic. There’s a small footwell that allows almost sitting headroom and v berth style bunks that are good sized accommodating two adults. That’s it, no electronics, or anything else really. Just a little storage under the bunks
G'day from Australia. You should get an raymarine tiller pilot to steer for you and freeing yourselfe up to do other things. Its like having another crew member on board. I have an 24 ft sailing boat and on my owen 100% of the time. Port Stephens, New South Wales, Gerard.
Howdy Gerard. A tiller pilot would be very nice, especially while motoring in a straight line when the wind dies! I will keep it in mind and maybe install one sometime in the future. Thanks for the recommendation Brian
@@ruddyducksailing Thanks for the reply. The tiller pilot allso works while sailing, just install an 200 watt flexible solar panel to keep the battery charged. That will allso run an 15 liter fridge/freezer. An handy addition on those longer trips. Gerard.
Incredible production, and beautiful scenery!! The pizza shown on the first 40sec looks absolutely superb! I wonder what the extra stainless bar crossing the Potter’s pulpit is for? Thanks-I’m planning a multi day trip, and thankful for your video!
Thank you! The pizza was at 2nd Avenue pizza in Sandpoint and they make the best pizza I’ve ever had. I think the extra stainless bar is for a anchor mount but I’m not entirely sure. Have fun on your trip, it’s a very fun place to cruise !
Did you get the standard TillerClutch or the TillerClutchX? The quality of your video production rivals that of major studios. Truly enjoying to watch! I feel like I was there and followed along...
Thanks again!!! 😄 I got the standard version of the clutch. I would imagine it would work great on a potter 19! We appreciate you following our videos!
that's a great video, thanks for sharing it with us! 2 questions: the pizza-2nd Avenue in Sandpoint? And how big is your Erickson? I sailed a 38 for a number of years.
Thank you! The pizza is 2nd Avenue and definitely the best pizza place I’ve been to. The ericson is a 30+ but we recently sold it to a friend as we are going all in in the trailerable sailboats! Loved the ericson though and it is a very high quality boat
Hey Jeff thanks for watching!! yeah that clutch was a game changer on that tiny boat! She liked to wander without a hand on the tiller. How does the tiller clutch work on the Nor Sea?
I notice you have synthetic standing rigging. Could you tell me about the fitting you use to attach the rigging to the chain plates and mast? I just purchased a Newport 16 in great shape. But I am looking at replacing the standing rigging
Absolutely. I used dyneema rigging with colligo terminals. Colligo makes all sorts of terminals to fit existing chain plates and make it very easy to rig. I used a Brummell lock splice on the dyneema and used lashings to go around the fittings for adjustments instead of turnbuckles. Way lighter and stronger than stainless steel. Definitely check out the colligo website as they have specs on everything
Hello! Found your channel and have enjoyed your last two episodes! Beautiful country out there, from an east coast sailer. Question, how do you all feel about the Honda vs. the Yamaha? I've had a Honda and currently a Suzuki 2.5. I've a friend who says he'll own nothing but a Yamaha... but he's mostly talking bigger engines. Thanks for your thoughts and well done with the great family time - R
Hey there! Thanks for watching! As far as outboards go I think both Honda and Yamaha are great engines and should last a very long time if taken care of. In my opinion if weight savings is very important then the Honda is better cause it is a bit lighter but I went with the Yamaha because it has features like neutral/ forward shift lever, water cooled, controls on tiller, and being a bit quieter . I haven’t had it very long but I really like it so far.
@@ruddyducksailing Seems like you're doing a good job at that already, so it'll be interesting to watch as you improve. Keep up the quality adventuring!

The boat is a 1970 Newport 16 that I have been slowly restoring piece by piece. It has been a great vessel and has taken us on some great adventures
Thought it was a sailing video not a skateboarding video.
