Your words are true and my hunting brother, no animal was wounded or suffered a lingering death and a most valuable lesson was learned never to be duplicated again. I would truly appreciate further videos on Sam's shooting improvement. I would suggest Straight Jacket Armory shooting classes in Evanston Wyoming. Contact Nick Arnold. Very reasonable and real down too earth skills can be learned. Best two days I've spent on range except when I shot competitive.

I had a Bergara B14 in 6.5 creed that I had Preferred Barrel Blanks spin off the barrel and put on a pre-fit 22 Creed for me. I just sent in the barreled action and they did the rest. Not a lot of factory options at the moment…Horizon Firearms and Fierce Firearms are the two main ones doing off the shelf “factory” rifles that I know of. I saw a handful of new Fierce 22 creed sitting on the rack at Scheels last week…first time I’ve seen one in any store.

Nice work, guys. I used to have a Tikka M55 chambered for 22-250. I had some handloads done for me using 53 grain Barnes x bullet. The idea was to have my son use it to learn. I took it out one day after red deer, bingo. Killed a red hind at 250 mtrs with a heart lung shot. Awesome little rifle.
    Love your videos.

I killed a lot of game with a .243 in my teens and 20s with 85 gr barnes running about that same 2900-3000 range of speed. It works damn well with proper shot placement. Most would crumble on the spot and all you would see is a head flop or two. Haven't looked at a ballistic chart but I would suspect that skinnier bullet at the same weight would travel better due to bc at extended distances. Also congrats on figuring out what was going on with the nephew and getting him a deer.

That seems a bit conservative. I shoot an 80 gn TTSX from my 250 Savage at around 3250 fps, and an 88 gn Sierra right at 3000 fps. ( Box says 87 gn but they weigh 88 gn)

    • @1bobharvey
      @1bobharvey 6 місяців тому +1

@fabulousoffroaddesigns5080 honestly, it probably is. I handloaded to the high end of allowable charge cause that's what the rifle liked. It was a older savage 110 with a 24" barrel and I was poor, so I didn't own a chrono. I just shot it at various ranges to figure out drop after I paced out the distance (aka Ididn'town a range fimder either). Those rounds could have been going well in excess of 3k for all I know out of a .243 but she shot very flat and you could cover a 5 shot group at 100 with a nickle so I was happy. 🤷‍♂️

I had a friend that had a custom made Ed Brown rifle in 7mm Rem Mag with a Leupold Mk 4 tactical scope. We dialed it in. I loved it. I really thought he needed more range time with it but he took it on a hunt in Wyoming, expecting up to a 300 yard shot. Took a shot on an elk at just over 100 yards and completely missed. Took another shot the following day and got his elk. We went to the range a few weeks after he got back to try to figure out what happened and he was doing the exact same thing as your nephew except he would sort of alternate which eye he would use with the scope. Left eye. Right eye... whichever he thought he could line up better, he'd go to that eye. Of course, we never stopped making fun of him missing at 100 yards with a $5,000 rig on his $3,000 (I think) hunt.

Great video, that round has me intrigued for sure.
And I hope after putting that video together, that biggest lesson learned was that if you take someone hunting that hasn't shot a gun in 5+ years, you should probably have them first shoot that rifle at a target and not at a deer. Make sure they are hitting where they are aiming with that gun BEFORE hitting the woods.
So glad that deer gave Sam a 3rd chance. Hopefully he's hooked now.

Congratulations on the great buck Sammy! It's interesting to see you've brought this up, this year has been an interesting season for us with learning. We've harvested a few deer this year with the 77 TMK out of a 223 AI and I've been really impressed with the 88 ELD-M out of a 22 Creed. Better performance with those two this year over a few 30s. I do have to say though I think propelling the bullet at it's correct velocity matters more than headstamp.

Your results are what a lot of people are starting to see with heavy for caliber 22s. I shot my mule deer this year with with a 77gr TMK out of a 223 and it hammered him. He was down in around 6 seconds. Great entry and exit at 275 yards, right on the crease of the shoulder. The 77gr TMK, 73 and 75 gr eldm are all doing well. Just like you mentioned, the terminal effects are very similar to the bigger calibers. With a 223 you can practice way more, you dont worry about recoil, and its super easy to spot your own impact. The down sides are you're a little limited in range and the wind will push it around more, but you can improve both of those by pushing that bullet faster out of something like a fast twist 22-250 or the 22 creed.

P O Ackley shot donkey in a cull operation and his favorite caliber for that was a 220 swift which has the same capacity as the 22 creedmoor.
Only difference is that the 22 creedmoor has a faster twist

Alot of people up here in the northwest of AK use the .223/5.56 round for caribou and they range between 200 and 400lbs depending on the season.

He just went from right eye dominant to expense side bolt gun. Congratulations. Join the club. Fewer options n most places cost $100-200 more for it. Some might be same cost but different barrel length too. Why? Idk

    • @user-tb8qq7tj2o

I don’t know much about to Ruger American Gen II, I sure like the new stock but still wish they would fix the bedding system and flimsy forend !!! However, I love the new barrel, The trigger, the 3 luge 60% bolt through, magazine, every thing else !! I was going to get a Savage 110 tactical in 6 mm ARC !! I’ve heard they have ejector problems and are difficult to cycle ???? Ruger actions don’t have those troubles !! mine is smooth and ejects and cycles great !!

Me, Myself, and my Father are ALL right handed but left eye dominant. I am the only one of the three that shoots right handed still. Be it open sights, scope, red dot, or even archery.... we all shoot the same zero still. don't know how that is possible.
