  • In Ep. 6, I test the Mirage Plus 21p props. I also added gear and a lot more fuel (approx. 150 gallons) for a real world test. Tested in a tight chop and on the Chesapeake Bay.
Check out MDG Performance Edgewater, MD.

Can you get on plane with one motor to get home in the event one motor stops working offshore?

I’ve never tried to get on plane with one engine. I might try the next time I’m out in it? It will still get me home on plane or not on plane.

So, which props do you prefer? Seems like the boat ran faster with the Tempest props. Or did I miss something. Congrats on the repower BTW. We have a 2004 23T w/Twin Yamaha 150's. 1400 hours and they still run strong. We love our Contender. Such a great riding 25'.

The Tempest were slightly faster but the overall fuel economy was better with the Mirage, that is what I prefer going 50+ miles one way.. The acceleration response is ridiculously fast.

Those #'s are great! We just did something similar last year. My wife and I went with the twin merc 150's f/s. According to smart craft we get about 1.8-1.9 mpg spinning 17" 4 bladed props on a 2005 Triton 2486 WA with 150 gallons of fuel etc. for a long run. I guess-estimate our weight to be around 7,000 lbs people, gear, fishing stuff, and gas. Thanks for sharing!! We fish out of Indian River.

I considered the Merc 150's but couldn't get Digital controls and I was spoiled after having the Verado lol tight lines.

How does this boat ride in some 2-3 ft seas chop and or spread apart ? Does she pound in a head sea or land soft and keep you dry? Thanks

Boat handles exceptionally well like a larger boat, has 24.5deg deadrise. Contenders are one of the top tier brands for offshore fishing. Very dry ride.

Could you post a clip of it running with a single engine? would be interesting to watch. Anyways nice videos, liked and subscribed all the way from Abu Dhabi

Unfortunately I don't have any good video of it running with the single engine except for the OC Offshore fishing video, its brief.

In 2009 I sold the Whaler, I had a lot of fun on that boat and we caught a lot of fish on it, great memories.
I wanted something that could handle rougher water and a more series fishing boat, I’d been looking at Contender for awhile but they were so crazy expensive.. I searched the Internet on anything Contender especially the 23T, that’s what it was designated at that time. The hull was rebadged 25T I think in 2014? Anyway, I found a leftover (2005) that was at a former dealer in Maine, stored an basically forgotten. The housing market at that time crashed so I made a cash offer that they accepted. I ran it with the Verado 275, (it was set up that way) till my repower last February.

2.2 @ 38-40mph (3800ish RPM) is truly AWESOME! I cannot wait to get these installed on my own boat one day.

@@spinfish1434 I'm in the market for a 25 Open (28LOA) to install twin 225s on. How have you liked them so far? I have only heard awesome things about reliability and unreal economy.

@@Lucas-LeFever They’ve exceeded my expectations, no issues. Excellent fuel economy. I’ve posted some of my fuel economy data in my offshore fishing videos. Something else I noticed excellent hole shot and mid range acceleration.. The 225’s will be a great choice for the 28’. (I almost went with them but would’ve been $6k more).
